For a month, Coal has tried to stay away from the beautiful cadet who makes him feel things he shouldn’t, each day of separation spiraling him deeper into worsening nightmares. Already on edge, it takes Coal one split second to plunge into violence—and find himself in shackles once more.
Lera has finally struck a tentative peace with the stone-cold deputy headmaster—that is, until she disobeys River’s direct orders and inserts herself into Coal’s troubles. Now, locked away in the academy’s dungeon, Lera’s darkest memories come to life. And someone else’s along with them.
As the magical bond between Lera and Coal awakens, there’s nowhere to run—and nowhere to hide.
DUNGEONS AND DREAMERS is the fifth episode in the GREAT FALLS ACADEMY novella series, featuring the same reverse-harem cast as Alex Lidell’s internationally bestselling POWER OF FIVE series. (Reading the POWER OF FIVE novels is not necessary to enjoy GREAT FALLS ACADEMY.)
Alex Lidell is the Amazon Breakout Novel Awards finalist author of THE CADET OF TILDOR (Penguin) and several Amazon Top 100 Kindle Bestsellers, including the POWER OF FIVE romance series. She is an avid horseback rider who believes in eating dessert first. She writes as both Alex Lidell and A.L. Lidell.
Ohhh how Alex likes to treat us and tease us... Another fabulous episode in the "Great Falls Academy"
#5 again is awesome and leaves you wanting so so much more! Every book I keep everything crossed that one of the guys remembers who he is and recognises Lear for who she is...
I loved the scenes between Leara and coal. I loved even more the tantalising scene with River....
Hoping to get some answers soon as to what's going on with the cracks / magic / mors/ and bringing the guys back. I Would like to start to understand how lera is supposed to fix all the pressing issues.
Can not wait for #6... bring it on.... yet again another well deserved 5 stars......
These episodes are getting better and better. I've nicknamed them 'teasers' because every episode Alex Lidell give us hints as to what is coming next, gives us little memories and then takes them away! I want the connection back and I feel like I am fighting for this quint just as much as Lera!
That went entirely too fast. a lot happened in such a short time though. There were some moments that could be triggering to some but the twist of having Han on the campus really made everything more dark and exciting.
*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.
Another fantastic addition to this amazing series!! Things are really heating up with this group now even if the guys do still think they are someone else. Lera finds herself in a world of trouble after she intervenes in a fight involving Coal after being ordered to stay where she was. This gets her thrown into the dungeon and what happens next will blow your mind as well as change her world as she knows it now. This leads up to the fabulous ending that is yet another surprise while leaving you dying for the next installment right now. I totally loved it so I give it 5/5 stars.
The short stories are definitely getting better, but still fail to grab my attention as much as other books. I have read 2 books in between the time it took to read this whole short story. On a positive note, Leralynn isn't complaining as much as in the other books and we are starting to see the quint's magic binds - so hopefully we are getting to the end of this agonizingly slow tale. I have said it before and I will say it again, this should have been one to two books at the most, there was no need to make it into these sitcom adventures, especially when there isn't a whole lot going on in the stories. I don't think we found out anything earth shattering in this book, but the writing was better than previous ones. Should you read it? If you're vested in the series yes, but if you have to pay for it - hecks no!!
An amazing adventure to follow, the characters pull you in fast and I couldn't put it down. I am hooked! Ever since Leralynn came to the academy and found out her mates had no memory of her she was been devastated. The only thing making it bearable is Arisha her roommate and Gavriel the old librarian that have been helping her. Since the spelled charms her men wear somehow are inside them . There is no way to take them off, no way to tell them who she is or that they have relationship and job to do because that would cause them great pain among other things. Her team was sent on this mission to safe the human realm so she has been doing it herself. Shades wolf is the only thing that seems to remember her. But the men it seems all have feelings for her that they are fighting to hide for a cadet. Feelings they think they shouldn't have. Now coal's link to lera might have make a connection. Maybe his mind and nightmares will get better it's to early to tell but there is some trust. But that still leaves River being the commander and holding himself away, ty being the same flirt and thinking his only goal in his life is to win the trial. And in the last book shade meet lera in her fae form and made a connection BUT he is now looking for the fae Lera and knows nothing about the human Lera lol as if this couldn't get crazier there is a new evil bad guy ? Yep a few days in a life of Lera lol poor girl. I love this story so full of action, twist , drama, mystery, spice, its amazing never a dull moment. Voluntarily review a copy and I honestly loved it
Lera vs Cole and Lera vs River, Love this series. A dangerous new instructor joins the academy, to takes over Tye's training. Master Han is strong enough to take on Cole and win. Cole finally snaps. Lera and Tye come to his aid and pay the price. Imprisoned together as punishment, Lera and Tye's resolve to stay away from each other crumbles. River's distraction, unintentionally costs Lera dearly. Her suffering taps into Cole's and he into hers. He isn't ready, to face the past, will try to protect Lera from hers. Lera comes to his aid again. She forces him to face his demons. He he forces her to face River, but not alone. River, always the protector, acknowledges is failure to Lera and Cole. He forces Lera to carryout the punishment he feels he deserves. Knowing that what she suffered was not intentional, Lera does it under duress. River accepts her forgiveness and comfort. Cole and Arisha come to a truce, both wanting to protect Lera. He has a good idea of what Lera has been up to. The cracks in the wards are getting larger. Lera needs help. She fears what the influx of magic will do to her males, with the amulets fighting back. She suspects Master Han is more than human. She needs Cole. Fast paced and steamy. Can't wait for Hide and Seek. This series is an automatic buy for me. I was lucky to receive an advanced copy, and this is my honest review.
Coming to Coal's aid has landed Lera and Coal a stay in the dungeon overnight. Their connection flares to life placing both in the other's nightmares. Between their magic and memories, it's too much. But maybe it could lead to a beginning.
I can't decide if this episode was actually better or if I have just given up. I still maintain that the serial format for this story and characters is a failure. This should have been one book. That would have showcased how little has happened though, so I can understand why the author would want to avoid that. Coal has always had the most emotional depth and turmoil, so highlighting his pain along with Lera's nightmares was effective. It did not show River at his best. It's like he and Tye are competing for the least likable crown. I'm sure Tye will come roaring back into the lead jerk position in the next book. But for now, let's celebrate, we did have an emotional connection that wasn't immediately walked back. Maybe soon, we will get some story progress!
The suspense is killing me. It’s so good but I really want their memories returned.
I don’t know how long Lera can last although she is trying hard to avoid her males at the same time still wanting them. Her relationship with the guys are like up and down. Tye and River are not really fully for Lera in this book. I’m glad that Coal is starting to continue in developing his relationship with a Lera. Shade doesn’t make much of an appearance here and has been MIA for a while in this book.
There’s a new character but I hated him on sight. I have an inkling who this person is and it would probably make Lera’s current situation worse. I’m really hoping to see more action with River and most especially Shade.
I’m just happy that Coal is aware of what Lera has been up to because she would need all the help she can get especially if the Night Guards are involved. I really hate Zeke. I hope he eventually suffers in this series.
OMG this is just getting to stressful the suspense is going to kill me. But then again Coal charter plays a big part in this book and he is slowly coming round to the fact that there is something between him and Lera but he does not know what. the big chance in how coal feels about Lera I think comes when they are in the Dungeons and they are both feeling and living each other nightmares and when he gets into a fit with Han and is ready to die Lera comes out fitting for him I especially love when she stands up go him and slaps his face to make him understand there are other people who would miss him if he die. River I just want to shake and say wake up please and help Lera and as for this new charter Han I don't like him in an away shape or form. I cant wait for the next book as I am on the edge of my seat waiting to find out what happens next
Alex Lidell is back with another episode in her fabulous Great Falls Academy series. These have all been short but highly imaginative (and very addictive) tales. That remains the case with Dungeons and Dreamers (Episode 5). This time it’s Lera’s magical bond with Coal that comes into play. Great story-telling, perfectly told. I really urge newcomers to start with book 1 in the series and then move forward to this one (even better is to start with the fantastic predecessor series, Power of Five, though this new series can stand totally alone). But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises. The book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend.
Can she handle anymore? Seriously, this was a freaking intense story!! Geez, the fighting that takes place is insane. Really, did Coal lose his temper? The pain that Coal is going through is rough and now realizing that his memories are being seen through Lera's mind. Even though he has been keeping his distance from Lera he breaks when he sees a drawing of her. Lera, obviously doesn't stay out of trouble and pays the price. However, she does have a moment with Tye that is out of this world. Shade is M.I.A and another character who is bad news shows up. Finally River realizes that what he is feeling for Lera is inevitable. What is going to happen? Is Lera going to.be able to get her mates back and save them from the veil. The suspense is killing me, but I love every moment of it. Victoria Me does another wonderful job.
I look forward to new episodes of this reverse harem novella series so very much - they are just like episodes of your favorite TV series, and the fact that this entire concept has allowed for more adventures with the beloved characters of the Power of Five series is icing on the cake. (I highly recommend reading that series before commencing with Great Falls Academy (GFA), which must be read in order.) As per usual in the GFA episodes, Dungeons and Dreamers had Lera and her quint in situations I did not foresee; the creativity is immense and so much fun! I found one plot thread particularly poignant, my emotions ran high for Coal, Lera and River throughout it. I loved the direction the story had taken by the end, and am so, so eager for episode six.
Alex Lidell does it again! This next book in the series is awesome. The story had me on the edge of my seat wondering what would happen next. With the introduction of the new evil character, Han, things get more intense. He's written so well that I just automatically hate him. Things with Lera's males are getting more intense. The only problem with this book is that it was too short. I read it in just 2 sittings. And now I have to wait for the next one which just sucks. Lol. But I seriously think this one was much too short. I was shocked when I read the last page thinking that I must have missed something. Other than that, it really is an amazing read. Now I can only sit and wait. Bummer!
This one hit me in my feelings. I won't lie and say that I didn't hate this episode just a little. Even if something beautiful came out of it. The connection between Coal and Lera is growing by the day. He may not understand why or how, but things are pushing him closer and closer to her. We all know it's because they are connected magically-- but Coal is still confused.
But, Lera disobeys River and inserts herself into a situation that she shouldn't have. That connection between Coal and Lera is brought to light. And he finally understands that there may be more to this "cadet" than he believes. I love that we are pushing closer to the total message of this series. If this was an actual TV episode, I would be begging for more.
Thèse books are like gobbling through a piece of chocolate to only realize the bar if gone without you realizing it. I get wary of Authors that stretch out a series too long, or create a spin off that feels lore like a ply then a new body of work. I’m shocked at how everyone of these books gives me that heart tingling feeling, allows me to continually fall in love with every single character. I want to rush to the end of the mystery brings all the ties together. But i also want to enjoy this ride as much as possible. Definitely one of the best PNR authors out there.
Lera and her boys are back! When Lera disobeys Rivers orders...yet again, it gets her in a heap of trouble. However, the more trouble she is in the closer to her quint she gets. This book ends way too fast because there is a new character that is introduced to the series. That is the worst part, these books are just so short. I wish there was more than just one big event but the solution. I guess that is how you know it is a good series. You demand for more, and the relationship between Coal and River get even more intense. I can't wait for the next book.
Lera is still covertly helping her guys in book 5 by trying to keep her quint together. They may still not remember her but they all have trouble staying away from her & she just has trouble staying out of trouble. More so in this book. As well as lust, love and sex (omg the scene in the dungeon was smoking hot!!) make this another great book in this series. Loving reading them and following their story
This is a fantastic read, a great addition to the series. All of the characters are so three dimensional, the world building is wonderful. The arrival of a new instructor, Han, makes for an intriguing plot twist. The drama between Lera, Coal and River is intense and only Shade appears to be missing from the tale. The plot thickens and I was longing for more details on the veil and the wards…… Can't wait for the next installment - I am hooked on this series.
This series has short stories each time which means they give you just enough to hook you and then leave you hanging till the next instalment.. i enjoy reading about lera and her quint on there mission in the human world. Lera is the only one who remembers who she actually is her men all think there human thanks to veil magic, the problem is each time lera tries to them them otherwise the veil magic hurts them and they forget again..
Everything is slowly coming together and I am loving every moment of it. And I can feel this chapter of our MCs lives coming to a close. I can taste it! I have both the need and want to see how this end but I also don't want it to end. I have fallen in love with these characters so much that I feel a certain bond with them. I don't want to see them suffer anymore but I would also miss how fun and exciting their adventures are.
In this episode coal beats up a bunch of guards and gets thrown in lockup to cool down, along w lera and rye for trying to help. Lera and coal spend the night in there and are again able to have each other's dreams which means the veil is crumbling and more magic is coming through. There is also a new trainer in town who is definitely not what he seems and clearly evil.
I definitely think Coal’s my favourite male so I was very happy to go back to his story. Although I think his backstory is so tragic and haunting I just love reading about it and how it has moulded him into the person he is. I also loved seeing his softer side come out in this one.
The ending of this finally feels like we are getting to the end of the series and getting somewhere close to a resolution or finale which I really appreciate.
Loved the interactions between Coal and Lera and the introduction of Han. This series is brilliant as ever. I thoroughly recommend. My only issue, is that we mainly see Shade in Wolf form and that I’ve got to wait another month for the next episode. The suspense is killing me!!!
I really loved this book. Coal is actually my favorite! The reason I am giving 4 starts is because I am actually getting tired of the little “episodes” I just love this quint so much but it’s taking so long. And we get so engrossed in the characters and then all of a sudden it ends and you have to wait 2/3 more weeks for the new one. 🤷♀️ but I do love the author and this series!
Alex Liddell does it again! I just can never get enough of Lera and her guys. This one broke my heart a little while mending it at the same time. Coal is now on the A-team. I just need more Shade without the wolf. And I need River to come to his senses. And let’s get Tye a little less reluctant shall we? I can’t wait for episode 6. I shaking in anticipation!
I love the newest turns. This episode did not hold back and I'm excited to see Lera getting closer to her males. She's slowly breaking through in ways that still keep the men protected, and now Coal is on her side so things should get even better. As always, a fantastic read by Alex Lidell!
The action continues...The lot gets a new training instructor, Cole gets into a fight and then a battle for his life. Shade returns from his search for the far girl. River feels he has let his students down and seeks punishment. Let's continues in her struggles to both protect her a hint as well as fighting the enemy. The wait between these books is excruciating!
The book was too short I love all the characters I love how it's from both male and female perspective that's my favorite part
I hope the next book is longer can't wait for it to be out I can't wait for the guys to get their memory back although it is quite intriguing seeing how they have to start all over again poor Laura Lynn
