About the author

J.F. Holmes is a retired Army Senior Noncomissioned Officer, having served for 22 years in both the Regular Army and Army National Guard. During that time, he served as everything from an artillery section leader to a member of a Division level planning staff, with tours in Cuba and Iraq, as well as responding to the terrorists attacks in NYC on 9-11.

From 2010 to 2014 he wrote the immensely popular military cartoon strip, "Power Point Ranger", poking fun at military life in the tradition of Beetle Bailey and Willy & Joe.

His books range from Military Sci-Fi to Space Opera to Detective to Fantasy, with a lot in between, and in 2017 two are finalists for the prestigious Dragon Awards. As of August 2017, Mr. Holmes has eighteen books and two novellas published.

Most of these stories are straight military science fiction with standard gun worship and sub-standard editing. The two imaginative bright spots in this anthology are “Maelstrom Rising” by Jason Cordova and “Maintenance Mode” by John M. Olsen.

Short stories are like potato chips

You can't read just one. Good writers, good stories, lots of battle action, and some unusual mecha. I enjoyed this book.

Mechs and Armor and Knights

I have just found a bunch of authors that I need to keep a list of. All the stories in this book are worth your time and energy to read.

Years ago men made the thought that if you climbed into a suit of armor you could fight better and be protected. Years after that men thought that climbing into an armored vehicle with a gun in it, you could fight and destroy your foe. Comes to the future men will mix both of these. A suit of armor that has find in it that will take you into the fight and back.

Great mecha anthology
