I'm not sure how I feel about this one. I loved the first two so much! I was really looking forward to seeing a bit more action, and a lot more growth from Lissa. This felt really repetitive at times, and way too many refresher statements for the last book thrown in here. Lissa grew from the first book, but not as much as I was hoping. I wanted her to end this series strong, and proud and a touch more badass. She somehow managed to stay rather timid given how much power she wields. I also would have liked more Lissa and Bryon time. Overall I think it was a good ending for the series I was just hoping for a bit more out of it.
I absolutely loved it! Oh what a ride, so many feelings!! I laughed and cried, specially at the end!! There's new characters and old ones show up. Plenty of plot twists to keep you guessing and entertained. Nice wrap up of the series, I only wish there was more.
It was a happy ever after ending for Brion and Amelissa. Although there was melancholy on the end but it was a satisfying ending. I just wished the author focused on Brion and Lisa’s connection more. I felt That Erwin has had more time spent with Lisa. Nonetheless, it was a lovely series.
A good ending to the series, but the previous books were better. I still have some questions and I just can't believe how many men have fallen in love with the MC in all three books and there is no supernatural explanation for it. I was hoping for sth. like that because I think it is very suspicious how almost every man falls for the protagonist. And I was really bothered with what happened to one of the side characters.
I received an advance copy from the author (minor spoilers ahead).
I knew that the wait for Freed to come out would be long, but I didn’t think it would be this long! I’ve been eager to get my hands on this book since reading Possession, and for the most part, it did not disappoint! It was exciting, there was action, the writing was wonderful – three must-haves for the third book in a trilogy. There were twists and turns that I didn’t see coming and twists and turns that I did and all of this combined to give me that edge of my seat I can’t put this book down feeling. I even found myself liking some of the characters a little bit more, which made the ending impact me more.
The only thing I really had a problem with in this series is Lissa’s character development. As a person on her own, she does grow into a strong and confident woman and overcomes her prejudices throughout the series, which I did enjoy seeing. However, she also progressively gets weaker and doesn’t really do much to actively drive the plot. The male characters drive the plot, and Lissa becomes the object of their affection. She’s their motivation. The only reason the events unfold as they do is because they all (and I do mean all) want to protect and defend her and keep her on the sidelines. And that’s really obvious in Freed, because the reveals in Possession led me to believe that she would have an active hand in influencing the events of the story, but she only really does one plot-relevant thing, and the only reason she succeeds is because it involves Finn, and he’s in love with her. For the most part, she sits on the sidelines, which was a little frustrating to see given that she definitely had the potential and ability to contribute more.
Like I said, however, that was the only thing. Everything else was amazing, from start to finish, and as a reader, I was satisfied with the ending. All loose ends were tied up and I was definitely left with a sense of closure, although I’m a little sad that it’s now over. Having read the series in its entirety, I can confidently say that if you enjoy YA fantasy, you will enjoy this series.
So. The story. 4 stars for writing, but only 3 for context. If you pick this book up hoping for great battles, intrigue, action, etc.,you will be dissapointed. There is not mutch substantial going on with plenty of "filler" pages. There is however lot of inconsistency, when author forgets what have been told to reader and contradicts herself. None that stand out terribly or ruins the story, but enough to annoy a reader who pays attention. One final battle. If you can all it that. Barely there romance. And so sweet an ending that it made my teeth hurt. I love HEA,I really do,but when author in glaringly obvious way wraps up loose ends to make every single surviving character deliriously happy.... I don't know,I could not believe in it or even like it. Nobody can be all forgiving and all loving without coming across as spineless idiot that begs for betrayal. But that may be just my own feelings talking. Sometimes forgiveness shouldn't be gifted but have to be earned and sometimes it shouldn't be given at all. But hey,I am not the infantile goody two shoes our heroine is. She had zero character growth and stays the same spineless girl she was from book one. Someone I would never befriend in real life. Let's be fair,if you take away her genetic makeup, there is absolutely nothing about her to admire.
Writing really is good, easy to read even when it is about nothing. Do I recommend this book? Sure. You will not hate the book ,so why not.
GAHHH! I need to release my anger at this book! So this is the last book and I expected things which angered me in book one and two to wrap up. But they didn't!
Also the synopsis is very deceiving. It hints at tension and world building which the book is seriously lacking. There is no exploring in depth the life of the rebels and the world building could have used a lot of help too. This is supposed to be a world on the brink of war but it was mostly Lissa getting another 3 marriage proposals. I'm all for romance but come on.
Other things which frustrated me, Info dump galore, I had to skim many a page. So many things which were hinted at or explained which play no part in the plot. Many of these things could have been super cool to explore. For example, the fact she has water abilities but literally uses them only once in the entire book for no good reason. There is a person at Erwin's court which might know her secret. She says multiple times, I don't trust her, I will need to let Erwin know, but after that scene we never see that character again!
A wonderful fantasy conclusion to this trilogy filled with adventure, romance and the demise of corruption and the the bittersweet fate of victory and change happening to nations for the greater good. This trilogy is so exciting with all it’s supernatural mythical creatures and their interactions with diversity and overcoming prejudice having a satisfactory progress throughout. The epic revelations with the prophecy, reunions between estranged families and devastating departures of beloved characters and where they all fell after the great animosity was resolved. The romance in this trilogy was beautifully selfless and even though time was spent apart with no communication the faithfulness and hope never resolved or diminished, with the reunion being so endearing and powerful. The supporting characters were fantastic and made such lasting impressions as they fought for their freedom and the equality of everyone with their sacrifices bringing peace to a nation in despair.
What can I say about this book? I must admit it starts out a bit slow for me, however as I progressed I understood that it was necessary to start like this ... I especially loved the way the author puts the plot twists in the middle and end of the book. It was like HOLLY SHIT every 5 minutes, it was definitely the best thing about the book, you have to quickly finish the pages to know what will happen next. The cons: I was left with the need to know more about the love story between them, they had barely realized their feelings in the last book when they had to split up, and to be honest they were most of this book apart, YES, we were aware that they shared a strong bond and all that stuff, but what else ??????? Anyway, it doesn't mean that the story ended badly, all three books make a great story with an expected happy ending. I wish there was a book 4 and it was about what we read in the epilogue. I definitely don't regret giving this trilogy a chance :)
Loved it! What more can I say but that....amazing book and series. Hated to see it end Lissa learns more about her family in this last installment of Curse of the Draekon. She is also learning more about her self and what she can do.... Will she and her Draekon prince come together or will something happen to take Brion away from Lissa? I laughed and cried reading Freed....I'm not one to give storylines away but I highly recommend this series if you like books about dragons, elves and humans. It will not disappoint. Thanks you Samantha Britt for allowing me to receive an ARC for my honest opinion...I absolutely freaking loved it....hated to see it end...I am a little sad that I finished it..
The story is really good but there are many errors in spelling and wrong terms! This should've been proofread. Concerning the story, Lissa is too whiny and the character didn't seem to want to grow! It would've been nice if these "great" powers she is said to have were explored more! Her so-called training was meaningless as were her siblings as we do not get to see them in use! Lisa presents herself as weak and useless whenever the make characters came into the picture yet she should have the ability to fight and defend just as them! I just would've loved to see into the battle yet we got this lame standoff! This really could've been better but it felt like the author stayed in the safe said instead of diving into all the battle action!
This series has captivated me from the very beginning and concludes beautifully!!! Love the epilogue and especially Lissa and Brion's journey in a turbulent political climate foreseen by prophecies. It was fascinating to read how some of the characters played a role in how the events turned out. A small part of me was rooting for the underdog. Team Erwin! He brings in a different depth to Lissa and her journey. Overall, I absolutely adore this book! What an epic way to end! kudos! beautifully written! Each book was better and better! LOVE them especially this particular one!!! My stars, my heart! #mustread
Out of the three books this one was probably my least favourite but was still enjoyable. While I enjoyed getting to know Erwin more I probably would have enjoyed it more if he hadn't featured so prominently. Some parts towards the end felt rushed and it had a bit of an anti-climatic ending. But overall it was a great trilogy of books. My thirst for Lissa and Brion was not slaked, and I would love to read more of their story. There were other characters too, introduced in this book that I would have loved to learn more about, but I won't say anything more because: spoilers. I really enjoyed Draek and Avelin and would love to read more.
Let the scheming and swooning commence! The book started a little slow as it introduced a new land and characters, but steadily picked up. There was no shortage of hidden motives and twists as well as romance to get swept up in. The action and supporting characters were exceptional and added depth and dimension to the story. I love so many of the characters but Erwin holds a special place. The ending was fitting and wrapped the series up nicely. Definitely enjoyed this series and I'm a fan of Britt's ability to craft complex, imaginative fantasy worlds and heart-stopping slow-burn romance!
This has been such a great series. I am so sad it is finished, but I love how it ended. So much happened in this. It was so cool to see Lissa come into her powers, and see others' reactions to the truth about her parents. The final battle was so stressful, and some absolutely heartbreaking things happened. But the immediate ending and especially the epilogue were fantastic. Can't wait to reread this series.
***I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary ARC of this book.***
Some of the errors I came across were so glaring I don't know how they could have been missed. Unfortunately for me, I am distracted from the story when this happens.
This book was the best of the series. I think I would have the series rather be one long book instead of having the first two books stop so abruptly.
I wanted to enjoy this book more than I did. It became annoying that every male fell madly in love with the main character or had a special bond, and it didn't really add to the story in a meaningful way. Also, the description of how much she loved the prince did not fit with how the author developed their love story.
Sadly disappointed with this third book. I feel like Amelissa was a completely different character without the character building within the story. Every make that came in contact with her was deeply in love with her even her cousin. Gross. Why would I want to read about inter family breeding? I had to stop after that love interest was revealed. But I really enjoyed the first two books.
I really enjoyed this series- loved the first 2 books. But while this book was great - I would’ve enjoyed more Lissa & Brion time developing their fated mate relationship. We read about Lissa’s other friendships in great detail but not the most important relationship to her. Felt lacking in this area and was quite a bit of a let down after reading the first 2 books.

The captivating storyline and masterful narrative arc culminate in an exceptionally satisfying conclusion that leaves readers thoroughly fulfilled. This remarkable series is an absolute must-read, offering an immersive experience that will undoubtedly resonate with audiences of all backgrounds. Without hesitation, I enthusiastically endorse this extraordinary literary journey.
Amelissa has to deal with a lot in this one. Brion doesn't appear until about midway in the book. Erwin is at her side for the first half helping her control her powers. Lots of action and some heartbreaking moments. Great end to a great series.
This book was great until she meets her parents. Honestly she caved way too soon and it was insanely frustrating. She has all this power but isn't a badass with it which was disappointing. I will say that I didn't see the ending and it was awesome!
Freed: A Dragon Shifter Fantasy Romance (Curse of the Draekon Book 3)
This was a okay read. A little action, and adventure , I’d say not enough for me. But I was vested and wanted to see to the end. If your just wanting to pass time this is for you
My rating is for the series as a whole. The first two books were really good the third felt rushed and just lacked something. I didn’t feel quite engaged as with the first two.
I did enjoy the series. Unfortunately this last book, Freed, did need to be proofread better. If you like sci-f, this series is interesting and keeps your attention. There are a few twists and turns. I would recommend to those who enjoy dragon shifter themes.
An enjoyable series. A kingdom cursed with infertility by their enemies. A single woman who is not destined to live the simple life. A broody shifter that wins her heart. Zero spice -a nice change.
