I really enjoyed that collection of 99 short, eerie and twisty one pagers. Either you get stabbed or murdered in one way or another or you are showing another human being what is meant by a raw steak. The characters live through many exciting experiences. Do they survive? Sometimes. Do they die in a conventional way. Rarely. I especially liked the stories on the clowns and why we are afraid of them. One clown rvrn shows you how to form a proper pretzel. Can I recommend that book? Yes absolutely, the stories are sinister and come up with a good twist mostly! Fine collection, ideal for commuters or goodreads readers who easily want to reach their reading goal!

My 2 first loves, horror and poetry. This book is not really poetry but it is written like it. So I would call it poetry more than short flash fiction. Some of the stories really make you think because he actually stops and it seems like a cliffhanger but its not. Kevin Cathy has a unique writing style and I love it. He is most certainly giving Stephanie Ayers a run for her money lol.

I mean, I knew I probably would. Since I love short stories, flash fiction, drabbles, and all that jazz. And Horror. I love me some horror stories. I mean, you'd just have to look at the books I've written to see that. :) I LOVE reading and writing horror. Can't say it enough.
I LOVE flash fiction horror! There's just something so creative about telling a whole creepy story in such a short word count. Especially when the story is only 99 or 100 words. Skills, my friends. That takes skills. :)
And this book... I freaking adored this. I read about half of it last night, which wasn't the best idea. I was in bed, reading on my kindle app. In the dark. I was very cozy and my dog and my cat were both in bed with me, so I didn't want to move and bother them. But then I had to go to the bathroom, but I had started thinking that I was hearing weird noises out in the rest of the apartment or outside my window...
Yep. I read spooky stories in the dark and gave myself the creeps so bad that I couldn't get up to go to the bathroom. Is that embarrassing? That a horror writer got scared by a book? Or is it impressive that Kevin Cathy did such a good job that he scared a fellow horror writer?
I'm gonna go with that one. Maybe it'll help me save a bit of face. Lol. But seriously, it was so much fun. I enjoyed all the stories and I LOVED tons of them. :) I really liked the clown one. And there was one about a fire I really loved. Ya'll should totally try this if you like flash fiction as much as I do. :)

This is the kind of book that I like to read in between books. For example, I finish a book then read a couple dozen of these. 99 word horrors are just that. Little tidbits of scary stuff that's only 99 words long. I enjoyed reading this and I highly recommend it when you need to clear your head after a full length book

Quick, to the point stories that make you think.
Honestly, this book reminds me of tales from the crypt. The stories are to the point, interesting and usually have an underlying meaning. They are not blood-curdling, but are definitely creepy. My only complaint is the spelling and grammatical errors, but they are very occasional and let's be honest here, everyone's human, even authors.

One of my Halloween reads this year.
There were some very neat 99 word stories in this book.
Some made me laugh out loud and some where nice and gruesome.
A nice quick read, when you have a couple of minutes you can read a handful of these stories and be entertained by their cleverness.

These stories are all 99 words (no, I didn't count them; I'm going to trust the author) and are surprisingly good, which got me wondering, which would be harder to write, a 1,000 page opus or an entire story under 100 words?
Some stories are better than others. My favorite one was called Devastation.
"I need to expand, to burn, to devastate the world in unimaginable ways.
Sentimental belongings mean nothing to me.
The forest is my personal buffet.
My one objective: to decimate.
I care not of how I achieve this goal.
I will displace all.
Whoever stands in my way, they will perish.
Once I am lit, I cannot be stopped unless others find a way to put me out.
Sometimes it takes a spouse, sometimes a militia.
Any human possessed by me will continue to dominate until I, Greed, have nothing to consume and no one to lord over.
That one speaks to my hippie heart.

3.5/5-I enjoyed about 33% of the 99 stories in this flash fiction collection. Most of my favorites occurred at the end with entries such as ‘Ransom’, ‘The Dinner Party’, and ‘Work Of Art.’ The rest of the shorts with subjects ranging from werewolves to lottery tickets were somewhat predictable and repetitive. Overall, a nice quick read to fit into breaks or if you’re taking a dump.

This was such a cool book! I really wish more authors would put out works like this. A lot of the stories had surprise endings. Definitely a great read without investing a lot of time.

In the spirit of "All Hallow's Eve" which is fast approaching, I thought It would b fitting to immerse myself in some good old-fashioned tales involving ghosts, goblins, and various other eerie and unsettling phenomena of the dark and macabre. The title of this book easily caught my attention and seemed to fit the bill for the perfect short read (99 word stories) with a perfectly spine chilling theme. Those were my hopes when I began reading this book, but those hopes were quickly and disappointingly crushed. The annoying first-person telling of almost every story, really seemed to drain the story of any potential substance. The stories were all told in such a "matter of fact" and dull presentation (the main character did this, then this scary incident happened or this frightening monster or other object of evil approached, then the same main character either killed someone else or died at the hands of the monster or threatening force). The entire book was filled with unemotional narration, predictable story-lines, and absolutely bland scenic descriptions. I understand that keeping within such a specific word count for telling a complete story and successfully drawing in the reader and eliciting the author's desired emotional experiences and responses from them, is a challenge that is quite daunting. A few of these 99 stories seemed to achieve that goal at least adequately, but the majority failed in my opinion.

Flash fiction is a genre hard to accomplish well. 99 words are almost impossibly short to tell a full story. I didn't go into this collection expecting fleshed out characters and we'll developed story lines, but I also didn't expect most of the micro bursts of fiction to feel like the same story. All told in first person, most told post mortem, when you started word 1 you pretty much already knew where word 99 was going to end up.

Nice idea, but
The stories are blah, 99 words just isn't enough for anything memorable.
I just finished the book and they've already blurred together.
Reads like a school project, with just passing marks.

A freebie on Kindle. At first it seemed like a cool concept for a book, but the stories were too short to make any impact and ended up becoming repetitive.

Author Kevin Cathy promises us ninety-nine stories in the anthology 99 Stories Of Blood On the Wall. A further note in a subtitle promises that each account will have 99 words. The group of stories is exciting just because of the structure. Although I will read all the stories, I will only mention ones in this review which I found remarkably good. The collection of stories is available as a free purchase on Amazon.
No Limit ***** Entertaining for fans of weight loss programs. There is a limited and finite amount to what a body can lose.
Compulsion ***** A rather extreme cure for compulsion disorders.
It Was All A Dream? ***** What is worse than waking up with a playmate you don’t remember? This story suggests one answer.
The Winning Ticket ***** A winning lottery ticket implies there are many losers. There is one big loser in this story.
Next Door ***** Sometimes, it does not pay to be neighborly. Sometimes you find out in time.
No, You’re Fired! ***** This employee felt able to claim severance pay.
The Best Haircut ***** Not all lobotomies are frontal.
Admitted ***** What would happen if you accidentally wandered into a wing of a mental treatment facility. Maybe you went there to visit a relative but made a wrong turn. Not good.

Halloween read
So it's Halloween night and I decided to read something scary. I don't usually like scary stories, and some of Stephen King's books have given me nightmares for months. I'm a real wuss. But these really didn't phase me at all. Perhaps because they were short short stories - a fun idea and it must have been an interesting exercise for the author to write 99 stories of 99 words. I read them all in maybe a half hour, and they won't keep me awake tonight. Not terrible, but not very interesting or scary either.

a very unique entertainment.....
I was intrigued by the title and then I saw the number of pages. These are brief, concise, paragraphs of single horror themes. I honestly can't remember ever reading anything quite like then before. I gave Kevin Cathy 5 stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟, because he has pulled off a very unique entertainment without any clutter. That said. I am really looking forward to reading any "full length" offerings that he may have.

This collection of 99 stories of just 99 WORDS was surprisingly well written and a send shivers down your back kind of book! I read it a while back so I can't recall any individual story but I plan to read it again, if that's not any indication of how much I enjoyed it then I don't know what is! I recommend this book for a rainy day read, it's short but engrossing and will past the time away quickly and, if you're like me, you'll be disappointed when it's all over! 🤓

Three ⭐... I chose this collection of stories because every now and then, I liked to get a little spooked, or something to (metaphorically speaking 'his under the covers'). Well, whatever this was intended to do, it didn't do any of that. In fact, I spent a majority of the time rolling my eyes. There were only a few stories that half sense.

Meh.
I read a lot of horrors but this book was just boring and did give me the chills I expected. I am not happy with it although the stories were okay. The concept and writing skills were also nice but I am not very happy with this book. To be honest I think I wasted my time on it.

Several other reviewers pointed out the main flaws of this collection. First, the use of first-person narrative just doesn't work with most of these stories. Second, the golden rule of "show, don't tell isn't followed. There are a few kernels of good stories here, but overall, this is the literary equivalent of TikTok. 99 words is just too few for an effective story.

A quick collection of flash horror fiction with an especially “doomed” feeling. Flash fiction is fun to while away a spare moment, and nothing beats the price of free on the kindle store. Some of the stories were a tad derivative, and some others were wholly enjoyable. Some notable ones I liked include: “Admitted”, “Work of Art”, “Clown Skills”, and “Dinner Party”.

Quick and clever
I was pleasantly surprised. Fast, clever little shorts. I really enjoyed it. The grammar at a couple points was awkward and hung me up briefly. Needed just a bit of correction but I do recommend the book ! Will look for more from this author.

lost the plot
Most of the 'stories' contained herein really aren't. Ideas for stories, little notes read into a dictaphone for building on later, yeah. And there are a couple of decent ideas. But to call them stories in their current state? I was disappointed.

99 Stories?
I didn't know what to expect with a title of 99 Stories. I absolutely loved the book. The very short stories had everything you needed. A beginning, middle and a great end. Some made me shiver while others made me smile.

Super short stories for passing a couple hours.
I enjoyed reading these stories as I was passing time on night shift one evening. Not the scariest but from different circumstances that make you think.

I really liked this book. Stories were short and straight to the point,and they are good and entertaining stories. This book was awesome and everyone should read it,if they want something scary and to the point.
