Another random treasure gleaned during a visit to a used bookstore earlier this year. While this book will only be of interest to die-hard Alice Munro fans -- readers who want to take a deep dive into the narrative structure and storytelling decisions in her earlier books -- I loved it. This book was written around the very same time that I was studying Alice Munro in university. One of the few essays I've held on to over the years focused on "the ordinary and the extraordinary" in the books of Alice Munro. That theme comes up in this collection of academic essays about this truly extraordinary writer. I'm thrilled that I stumbled across this literary gem and grateful to the used bookstore owner who gave me a break on the price. (I think he sensed that this book would find a loving home on my bookshelves!)
