Marina Johnson loves all things British, including the weather when it stops raining. She keeps trying to write something serious and straightforward but it never quite turns out that way. She also writes under the pen name Joanne Ryan https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...
This was a very good, quick read. I really liked Becca and her not so helpful bird. Becca, Flynn, Trina and even Emily were all likable characters who I would definitely read about again. I look forward to more books from this author.
The h is a good-natured, not too bright everywoman who is still hung up on a perfectly worthless, long-ago ex. She wises up, but then her story becomes one of the silliest romance tropes. It's low-stakes and tropey, but enjoyable to read. I will seek out other books from this author.
A wonderful story about Rebecca a woman who spends too much time thinking about the past. Becca imposed a self-exile from her home town after she split with her villainous boyfriend. Seven years later she returns needing a new job and a new place to live. I think the characters are so convincing in this story the clues are there from the start - what kind of person needs a whole seven years of her life to move on? A person who is prone to the ruminations of heartbreak, like the protagonist Becca. Her fears are maintained by listening to the little voice in her head. She even identifies this as a bird Becca's head is truly pecked. Set in a fictional British town, the scenes mainly take place in Becca's new job and new home; sharing with the gorgeous Flynn at first a mystery we gradually get to know him. Funny, a great page-turner and a hidden positive message this book made me wonder what would happen next. Then I remembered the characters are fictional (that's how good they are) and I was content with the story's fab resolution a happy ending.
Loved this book! Funny, relatable and cringe worthy. The main characters were so likeable especially the lovely Flynn. A perfect, heart warming chick lit guaranteed to cheer you up. Highly recommend!
I loved Fat Girl Slim by the same author and was thrilled to see this one was available. It's funny and fun. It's easy to identify with Becca with her 'voice of doom' always chipping in, I'm sure we've all experienced that, though few of us have given that voice a name, I suspect. Flynn is the perfect hero and foil for the lover she left behind seven years ago. Loved the work situation, especially the 'long walk' to Em's office - definitely identify with that. Well written, fast paced and entertaining. I recommend!
I loved this book, very positive and was rooting for Becca all the time. I even warmed to characters I didn’t expect to, and would love to see a follow up to this????
There’s also a short story at the end to download - In Like Flynn - the story from Flynn’s point of view. Such a lovely read.
Absolutely brilliant read, hilarious with a great plot and amazing characters (especially Flynn!) I read this very quickly because I enjoyed it so much and wanted to find out what happens. It was heartwarming and lovely and I cannot recommend it enough.
