Come Alive

Rate this book
What do you do when your bad boy, rock star boyfriend starts dating the hottest drummer around?

Maybe, get with the plan?

Dani’s relationship with sexually fluid, Black Halo frontman, Xane Geist is put to the test when she agrees to allow him to explore his desire for sizzling new drummer, Luthor Albrecht. Even with strict rules in place to define what’s acceptable, Dani’s heart is never more than a step away from being broken.
Nor does it help that she’s secretly attracted to Luthor too.

As one crisis after another hits the hard rocking band, Dani must make peace with her traumatic past and overcome her trust issues if she’s to have any chance of holding onto Xane, or turning their uneasy love triangle into something stable and positive.

Please note ~ Come Alive is the third part of Xane and Dani’s story. In order to appreciate it fully, it is recommended that you first read Cone Undone and Come Together.

Boy do I need a cold shower after this crazy hot read! The guys of Black Halo took a break on a private island that Spook has and they are trying to get together so they can regroup after all of the chaos that they have went through as of late. Ash is out of the hospital and he and Ginny are on their way to the island also so that Ash can recuperate from everything that has happened to him. Sorry to say that he is still not able to play his guitar and they don’t know for certain if he ever will be able to again like he had before his fall.

Come Alive really is dealing with Xane and Dani’s sexually charged relationship. Luthor has officially joined the band now as Black Halo’s drummer and has every intention of making the relationship he wants to work with Xane even if that includes sharing him with Dani. And Dani has every intention of not sharing the love of her life with Luthor. The girl is scared to death that she will lose Xane to Luthor and leave her out in the cold. That’s how it works right? Anyway that is how it worked for her mother and father so what else is she to think. Xane will continue his relationship with Luthor if and only if Dani agrees to it. With all of Dani’s hang ups there doesn’t seem to be a chance in hell that she will ever agree to let her lover bed his drummer boy, Luthor.

There is so much at stake because what happens if Xane and Luthor do hook up and then things fall apart does that mean that Black Halo will fall apart also? How does Dani deal with her fear of losing Xane because she is afraid if she holds him back from his attraction to Luthor he will leave her eventually and if she oks the relationship between Xane and Luthor she will lose him that way as well. She’s fighting her jealousy and cannot figure out how Xane can have these feelings for Luthor if he really loves her like he says he does. And oh, my does Xane know how to love! And how is Xane’s ex, Elspeth, going to factor in to all of this because we all know that she has an ax to grind with him? This is a book that you can’t put down because you feel so pulled in to the storyline that has you feeling that exact same push/pull that Dani is going through. So how does this all end for Xane, Luthor and Dani and is this going to be the downfall of Black Halo?

I cannot believe this is Dani & Xane's...& Luthor's... last book! I know they will be in the other books, but still... I have loved following their story & seeing each of them change. Change they have!
Xane I think I love. He went from this reckless, "I don't care about anything" kind of guy to a loving, sweet boyfriend. He was amazing with Dani & all she had been through. Dani has grown from being so narrow minded to an open mind. She really overcame a lot throughout their books. I'm proud of her. Luthor is such a sweetheart! I really came to like Luthor after not being all that fond of him. He just seemed to go about this the wrong way before & a little misguided, but I grew to really like his character.
Come Alive was hott! Their romance came alive on the pages & the love scenes were always steamy. It was full of twists I didn't see coming at all. That with me is a hard thing to achieve. I can usally see things coming, but was surprised a lot throughout.
I was happy with a lot of the conclusions in the book. I do however wish the end had a little more. I am very glad the other band still have books coming because there's a whole lot I hope we get see come out of their relationship.
Overall, this was an amazing end to their story. I am very excited for what is to come & hope that I can continue to review the ARC's for the rest of the Black Halo group!

I always get excited when a new Madelynne Ellis book is out and I was especially excited for Come Alive, the third book in her Rock Hard series. The members of Black Halo are all heading to Spook's private island so they can rest and figure out where to go next after the issues they faced in the last book. Of course, with this band, you know things won't go as easy as that sounds!

In addition to everything going on with the band, at the heart of Come Alive we get Xane and Dani's story which gets complicated once Dani allows Xane to explore his desire for the band's new drama Luthor. Xane was ridiculously hot in this book and I felt bad for Dani as she struggled to deal with her jealousy and insecurity about Xane. Like I come to expect, Madelynne has given us another well written sexy book with interesting and engaging characters. It was a thrill to be along for their ride!

This whole series was absolutely amazing and I have put it in my favourites for later reading pleasures. I wish there was more to it. But I guess, one has to leave some thing to imagination for the readers.

Love this series and I would love to read more by this author. Definitely recommend this series to anyone that loves a good rockstar plot.

Probably closer to 4-1/2 stars. It wrapped up the Xane/Dani/Luthor thing quite well and realistically. Dani didn't just all of a sudden decide it was fine for Xane to be with Luthor, and based on her background, I wouldn't expect that. It would have been disingenuous. I felt bad for all three of them, because they were all stuck in a pretty weird situation. Dani knows Xane is bisexual, though she has no capacity really to deal with it in the way Xane would like for her to, which is to accept that he also wants Luthor. But besides Dani's background, she's just afraid that she's not enough for Xane, and he'll decide someday to cast her aside for someone else (or a few someone elses). Luthor wants so badly to be with both of them, but Dani can't accept that Luthor could possibly want her, so for the longest time, she ignores the signals he's sending. And Luthor really wants Xane, but Dani has set the rules that nothing can happen if she's not around. Which really doesn't work very well for Xane and Luthor's sex drives. They try really hard to follow her wishes though. Until Elspeth's bomb drops and Xane slips into past self-destructive behavior and indulges in his addiction... with Luthor. And Dani finds them. It's a big mess. But they're finally able to work past all of the issues. I don't think it'll be completely smooth sailing -- Dani has a lot of internal programming to get rid of -- but they had made really great strides by the end of the story.

It also resolved all the conflict within the band. The thing with Elspeth was going to come to a head, and boy did it. I'm not sure how she thought that particular thing would end, but she had to know it wouldn't be good. For her to just swoop in and think everything would be fine... I'm not sure where her head was. But that seemed to be on the right track by the end as well. Good overall series.

******ARC given for an honest review**************

Book three is mostly devoted to Dani, Xane and now Luthor’s relationship. This picks up after what happened with Iain Willows. The band has regrouped at Spook’s house on a private island. The hope is that Xane can convince Dani that Luthor belongs with them. It also shows where Ash is at in his recovery. A better peek into who Spook is. And Paul aka Rock Giant is found to be a softie!
I’ll be the first to admit that I didn’t like Luthor very much in the last book. He was pushing himself into an already established relationship and threatening it. I thought it was selfish.
At the start of Come Alive he wasn’t much changed in my eyes. I know he was in love with Xane but he wasn’t taking Dani’s refusal seriously. At one point he even declared that he would act on his attraction to Xane no matter if she approved or not. That was very selfish.
As the book went on I started to like him more. He and Dani started really communicating. There was one instance where he crossed the line but thank his and Xane’s lucky stars, Dani forgave them. So again, their communication was improving him in my eyes, he showed that he did actually care about her instead of just showing a relentless pursuit of Xane.
I know a lot of people blame Dani for the tension, but I don’t find that fair. Can anyone really imagine having another person pushing into your relationship and taking away even part of the affection of the person that you love beyond belief? I don’t think anyone would act differently to her.
Elspeth, I hope to never see her in the books again. She may have been somewhat forgiven in the end but what she did was petty. It also led to Xane falling in to his old ways, which I still think he needs to have counseling for.
The ending has an HFN. It leaves off as a fade in to the next book.

This is one of my favourite rock star series. I have been looking forward to this one. I love Xane and Dani so more of them (and Luthor) is always good.

The band has retreated to Spook's house on a private island to recuperate after what happened to them in the last book. Luthor has signed on to be a permanent member of the band. He is trying to settle in with them and also to work out his place with Xane and Dani.

Dani is having second thoughts about the relationship between Xane and Luthor. Because of her history where her father left her mother for a man, she is afraid that she will lose Xane to Luthor. She doesn't believe that Luthor truly wants to be with her. She thinks that when he tells her that he wants to have a relationship with her as well it is a ploy so he can get closer to Xane.

Xane is, as usual, hot as hell. He is trying to find a way for his lovers to be happy together. He adores Dani but he know she struggles with his sexuality. He is madly in lust with Luthor but Dani has put restrictions on what he is allowed to do with him which amps the sexual tension up sky high.

This is scorchingly hot reading. It is well written with fantastic characters. It did feel a little rushed towards the end. I would have liked to read more of them all together rather than just the lead up to them working it all out and a quick epilogue. But maybe that could be another book. Please?

Doing a generous round-up to three stars, because I respect Ellis' ability to put together an ensemble cast that is fun to read. I know this is a Xane-Dani-Luthor book, but I have to say, I was more invested in the overall trajectory of band dynamics than what the trio was working through.

Apologies if this summary is not quite on point...I wandered away from this book around the midpoint for, like, weeks. And then waited on this review, like a dummy. But what I remember is they're all at Spook's retreat on a Swedish island, and Xane finally has the go-ahead to explore his feelings for Luthor. Dani's nervously going along with it, and Luthor has his own goal of winning her over. Meanwhile, there's a HUGE info leak about the band - Xane in particular - and the shape of Black Halo changes again before the book is over.

Okay, so here's what I remember: Luthor was super pushy. I did not like how he pursued Dani. I don't remember having a clear feeling at all about Xane until he goes through his crisis in the second half / last third of the book...then things finally got interesting. I can't say anything without spoiling, but it's an honest challenge for Xane-Dani-Luthor to handle, to say nothing of the larger band dynamics.

Do you know I can't quite remember if Xane-Dani-Luthor get to their HEA? But I just double-checked and they did heh. I still have the Ash-Ginny books to read and of course Spook, so the overall story still feels like there's more to give. Like I said, at this point more interested in how that all plays out.

I have waited eagerly for this story on tender hooks, hoping to see where things have lead for Dani and Xane. To see whether their relationship would work with a third person. The very handsome brand new drummer of Black halo Luthor. I consumed this novel and couldn't put it down. I managed to read it in a day and a half. Who needs sleep right?
Essentially the band is on a small island together to rest and recuperate after the dramas and near death experience from the previous band drummer Iain Willow.
Not only has Dani and Luthor relationship dynamic change but so has my view of luthor. At times I wanted to hit Dani and then Luthor. But as the story progresses the communication between the trio opens up, and Dani begins letting Luthor see her vulnerabilities and fears.
You also get glimpses of the other band members as they recoup after the near end of their band. Whilst Elspeth has not changed but seems more determined to see Xane downfall. Whilst all Xane wants is a happy girlfriend, to enjoy the handsome new drummer and a small birthday bash. You can't help but love the sexy rock-god/sex addict. Who tries so hard to satisfy his girlfriend and kind of boyfriend.
To say the chemistry between the trio is hot is an understatement it is sizzling and leaves you breathless. I loved book 3, Madelynne Ellis has left me more than satisfied, more like impressed and craving more. This story I can not recommend enough, it needs to be read.

I bought this book two weeks ago, and savoured knowing I had it before devouring it. Having waited so long I was almost afraid to read it. I didn't want Dani, Luther and Xane's relationship to end. I adore all three characters and have had moments of love and hate, in equal amounts, towards all of them.

I know we will hear about them in subsequent books, but I want another book just for them. How will their future pan out? Will Dani marry Xane as Xane seems to think, and if so how will Luther feel? Or will Xane be happy for Luther to marry her? Will they marry at all? Taking into account Dani's feelings on God and religion. And what about children? I'd love to know how Xane would feel if Dani was to carry Luthers child first.....I have so many questions concerning these three, my mind spins with them. What if they do have children? Would Dani want to tour with a child? Will feelings of jealousy fester in Dani were she to be left holding the baby, whilst Luther and Xane go on tour.

Please ME can I have some more!!

This was another amazing book by ME, and if your reading this review with the possibility of buying, then you won't be disappointed. But please don't buy without reading the previous books first, as your robbing yourself of a great read on a developing relationship.

Black Halo characters are brought to life with ME's words. You will become engrossed in their story and like me......you'll want more

To say I've been eagerly awaiting this book is the understatement of the year, and with that kind of anticipation there is always a small risk of disappointment.

Not to worry! Madelynne has triumphed with this last in the trio of books about the Black Halo rock band. Last time we met them, the band was in disarray after a murder attempt and various other disasters.

This picks up shortly after that, with most of the band headed to one of their number's private holiday home, on an island. Some R&R and maybe some jamming in the studio are in order, along with the lead singer's upcoming birthday. Should be idyllic, right?

Wrong! Sexual tension, arguments, misunderstandings and emotional outbursts abound, and it all gets very angsty and worrisome. All poor Xane wants is his girlfriend to be happy, a birthday to enjoy, and to be allowed to indulge his ever-growing lust for their new drummer, the super sexy Luthor. And somehow, we want that too, because he might be a messed-up, needy sex-addict but he's OUR messed-up, needy sex-addict, and a HEA for this goth-rock god is what we need.

Will you get it? You'll have to read the book!

I received an ARC of this for an honest review.

After a seemingly very long wait I've finally got to read the next instalment of Black Halo and the Xane/Dani/Luthor story. It was worth the wait. Madelynne Ellis has served up another taste of Xane Geist at his sexy best. The story takes place just after the last one ended and the boys are taking a break from touring while Ash recuperates. Great to catch up with Ash,Rock Giant and Spook too. This book, made me angry, sad and laugh, it has super steamy hot bits and with no cliff hanger ending didn't leave me screaming at the last page , although I hope this is not the last we will hear of Xane and his lovers. Madelynne writes exceptional ménage books and this is yet another one. A great read!!

Man alive was this book brilliant! I love this series, the characters are perfection and the story full of twists and turns. This instalment is no different, it dragged me in and refused to let me put it down until I'd read the whole blinking thing.

The Black Halo boys are enjoying a well deserved break in a quiet sanctuary away from the public eye. The delicious Xane and Dani are having to deal with a threat to their relationship. The book mostly concentrates on the highs and lows of their relationship with Luthor.

All of the band make an appearance and though it's a lovely long book it still left me wanting more. I can't wait for the next instalment. Five stars just aren't enough for this fun and steamy read.

Black Halo is taking some time to recover on a private island after everything that has been happening. Luthor, a drummer is now an official member of the band and he wants to explore the relationship he has with Xane even if that means he has to share him with Dani. However, Dani doesn’t want to share, will Xane leave her because of it and what happens if things don’t work out with Xane and Luthor could that mean the end of the band? Was hooked from beginning to end. So much drama, the characters are amazing and the story is fast paced and oh so steamy. This is the 3rd book in the Rock Hard series and I do recommend reading them in order. Loved it!

Black Halo Hotness

I love this series and have wait ages for book 3 and it didn't disappoint. I spent about 75% of this book wanting to shake some sense in to Dani and 100% loving Luthor and Xane. But when these 3 get in on it is hot.
