I don’t play games. If I see something I want, I go for it.
After my late wife passed away, I haven’t been attracted to another woman. That’s until I come face to face with Chloe Jordaan with her sassy mouth and larger than life personality.
She’s the complete opposite of me. I’m not afraid to commit, where Chloe’s the epitome of ‘Bad Girl.’ I’m rational and serious, where Chloe’s carefree and fun.
She keeps reminding me we’re only friends with benefits, but I can’t stop myself from wanting to make her mine.
She’s everything I shouldn’t want but turns out to be exactly what I need.
Will the South African Bad Girl ever fall for the American Alpha Hero?
The book is not safe 😀 The book is not safe 😁 La la la la la la la The heroine had a ONS after she met the hero. Freaking amazing, if you aks me! La la la la la la la
And if not for the hero and side characters trying to judge her (🙄🙄🙄🙄), I would copy and paste la la la to the max space this review allowed.
Well, she was a cool girl. Yeah, she was hurt (which h isn't? 😏), and she enjoyed her life. A girl wants a ONS, a girl shall get one. Yeah, I hear a whisper of slut-shaming, but since I don't give a fuck.... la la la
The hero was actually a good man. A huge trigger for many readers: he lost his beloved wife and still loved her. I found it actually admirable, I think it's possible to find a new love without forgetting/bashing the old one. I also loved, that they didn't try to portray his deceased wife as a bad person and especially, that the heroine respected his love and supported him. I not once thought she were the 2nd best.
So, heroine's lack of virginity/innocence and their mutual respect for his deceased wife and overall a good message me made want to me click 4, but the judgment of her friends and partly of the hero led me to 3. The story was too short and the romance slightly undeveloped, but it was worth a read.
So this is yet another rollercoaster of an emotional ride of a book, this wasn’t my favourite of the series if I am being totally honest but still one heck of a read. These two are both broken souls wanting to escape the hurt of the past.
Chloe has decided there is nothing left in her old life in South Africa to stay for, her mother has died and her relationship with her father is broken beyond repair. Starting somewhere new is just what she needs and when Emma and Aiden offer her a haven of staying with them while she decides on the path that she wants to take, as a trained nurse she should be able to find work anywhere. She is immediately drawn to Zac, the sadness in his eyes but she couldn’t possibly want more with him especially after what she has witnessed men do in the name of love, but can she resist the feelings he brings out in her and when she is in real danger will she realise that love does exist?
Zac has spent years mourning the death of his wife, knowing that he has lost his heart for it never to return he continues with his life throwing himself into his work as a detective. The last thing he ever expected was for Chloe to enter his world, there is something about her from the moment that they meet that he wants to heal but she is fighting the feelings at every point. Is Zac prepared to fight for love and for Chloe or is he destined to lose another woman who he could love?
When I say that this is a rollercoaster I mean be prepared for heartbreak, loss, drama, danger, healing and love. These two characters have experienced loss and together they can heal. Each book has had me embroiled in emotions that I wasn’t expecting and I might need a holiday to recover but I would re read these books again with absolutely no hesitation. These books are by no means safe and lovey dovey but one heck of a read. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED 5* series and book.
I don't know about this one in the series. I don't wanna to say it's a bad story, but... While I didn't struggled reading, I wasn't invested. It had good and funny moments, I even wanted to cry on one moment (Aiden and Birdies scene broke my heart) but... I don't know.
Alas, the last book in the series. A series I have really enjoyed reading. At times I have loved the closeness of the characters, the family feel and enjoyed seeing each of these characters find love.
All stories have had their own spin on things and We were lost touched on grief and the issues the characters were facing through their loss.
This is Zac and Chloe's story. Zac has always been in the background in this series, he works in the precinct like some of the other characters, so yes he's another hottie in a uniform. Zac is still grieving over his wife who was shot years ago, he hasn't moved on, doesn't feel the need to move on, he is still very much in love with his wife until the sassy Chloe arrives from South Africa. Chloe is the best friend of Emma from book 1 in this series, she is the best friend that helped Emma escape all those years ago and ow with the loss of her mother she decides to go over to the States to see her friend.
This was a good story about starting over taking chances for both characters.
I still didn't' feel fully convinced Zac began to love Chloe as much as his deceased wife, I hope she won't ever feel second best, I would have liked more from Zac in the latter part of the book to prove me wrong but overall it was a touching story.
Told in first person dual pov. Can be read as a standalone. Available in KU.
What an sweet exciting story. I finished this book in like two and a half hours😁
Zac and Chloe's story captured me from the starts and not just because she comes from South Africa and there a few sentences in Afrikaans (my language) in this book, its because it was such a relatable story to read
Zac has lost his wife in tragic circumstances, now years later he is trying so solve a case he has been on for a long time and just content with his life. Till his brother in law asks him to pick up his wife's best friend from the airport. From then his life is not the same
Chloe left her country as there is nothing left for her there anymore. Her mother is gone and she and her father do not have a relationship. She's visiting her best friend in America and meets a hunk with blue eyes named Zac. But Chloe is a 'one-time girl' she is not into relationships as men are not trustworthy ☹️ But when she meets Zac she knows he is a forever kind of a guy and that's not her but the more time they spend together the more she can't help falling for this man. And the more, Zac knows that he will fight for Chloe even if it means fighting her for a chance to have her in his life ❤️
Two people who both went through hard times. And even though it seems they are put together deep down they are still hurting and still broken. I loved the story, I loved the characters everything in this story just seemed to flow together and it was a good story to end this series on. Well done on this whole Southern Heroes series Michelle❤️❤️
We Were Lost by Michelle Heard is an emotional read that touches the heart and soul. It will take you on a rollercoaster ride of emotions- tears, heartbreak, loss, forgiveness, healing, romance, drama, angst, new love, passion, excitement, happiness and joy. This is characters that have you rooting for them to get their HEA. You will start reading and not stop until the very end of the book's final word. You become enthralled with the characters life and stories. Eli and Chloe's story will have you rooting for their HEA. This is the final book in this series but wow, ends on a high note. The author has a brilliant way of conveying the characters emotions, thoughts and feelings; This is one series that will have you feeling as though you were right there in the book , going thru everything with the characters. This was a great read and I loved the chemistry between the main characters. Fabulous story with great ending!!
My word why does it have to be over? I needed Zac from his appearance in book one. I knew he would be my favorite and Michelle delivered. He just made my decision solid in saying he's my favorite of all Michelle's books. I absolutely loved this entire series. The way this group of friends and family are so connected and loving is absolutely beautiful. The hurt and heartache they've all went through brings them out stronger in the end. Zac is the calm responsible one and Chloe comes crashing in like a wrecking ball. When he wants something he doesn't give up. Chloe and Emma's friendship is like one I share with my best friend. She's my sunshine and a happy place when I need it. If your looking for a group of people who will grab your heart and not let go, then grab your tissues. If your looking for hot as sin southern men, then sit down and buckle up. Your about to have your heart stolen. This series is it. I'm telling you now though Zac is taken ladies!!
This story was a beautiful wrap up to the Southern Heroes series. Like all the books in this series, Zac and Chloe’s story is a perfect mix of pain, forgiveness, acceptance, and love; with just enough of Chloe’s quirkinesses to make you laugh. I loved this whole series.
This book is so good. Chloe is a spitfire who bring back a broken soul. Zak is such a sexy romantic guy. You hVe to read the series this book is amazing.
I love this author and her amazing writing style. These books and every book ive read by her have been absolutely outstanding and I can not wait to read the next book by her.
"I don't fear commitment, I fear being abandoned after giving you my heart."
Zac and Chloe have both had traumatic experiences with people in their lives. Zac lost his wife, Laurie. Weeks after meeting they eloped in a whirlwind romance. Until one day his world is torn apart. Zac hasn't been interested in any other woman since. Until Chloe.
Chloe had it all, the loving parents any child would love to have. Until she and her Mother walk in on her father cheating.Through that shock, her Mother passes away from what Chloe takes as a broken heart. And Chloe is convinced all men are the same. She hates him for what he's done. She's the one-time kinda gal. Fun, sole of the party. Since there's nothing keeping her in South Africa, she gives notice at the hospital where she works, up and packs her little possessions and heads to America, to her best friend Emma.
" I once heard someone say that hatred is a form of love. You can't hate someone unless you once loved them. The thought leaves me feeling sad and lost." ~ Chloe
For the past year Zac's been trying to get the dirt on Pastor Doug to put him behind bars for good. But with the mastermind behind the drug operation about to be released from prison, he's more determined than ever. But when he meets Chloe, her sassy remarks, he can see that's a cover, he knows she's hiding something, but what. He wants to find out. They get close. They both develop feelings for each other, but fight them. Chloe is attracted to him, the southern accent and the whole fine package. But is determined just to be his friend. She also picks up on his pain and also wants to fix him. Zac's unexpectedly caught himself comparing Chloe to Laurie. Which he's never done. And is adamant that there's not going to be anything between them.
"She's just another pretty face in an ocean of many." ~ Zac
"There can never be anything more than friendship between Zac and me. He's already suffered so much heartache, and I care too much for him to add to his pain. Being his friend is the best I can do. It's safer for the both of us." ~ Chloe
Can they heal each other? Do they stay friends, do they move on? Does Zac finally get to put Pastor Doug behind bars for good?
So sad to see this series end. It's been great! The banter between the characters is brilliant.
But hold onto your hats folks! Michelle has a new series coming soon! The Trinity Academy series:- FALCON MASON LAKE #collegeromance #richkids #badboys
Reading Order of SOUTHERN HEROES Series: Each book can be read as a stand-alone.
THE OCEAN BETWEEN US THE GIRL IN THE CLOSET THE LIES WE TELL OURSELVES ALL THE WASTED TIME WE WERE LOST
*I received an Arc copy in exchange for an honest review*
Zac lost his wife. Luckily her family still sees him as family. When his brother in law asks him to pick up his wife's best friend, Chloe, she will shake him to his bones. She is outgoing where he is more reserved, to say the least, she loves a party. He is a homebody. She also is the first woman, since his wife, that he has had any inkling of attraction too. Throw in a case he is struggling to close his world is in disarray.
Chloe, is leaving South Africa and likely never coming back. Her father's cheating indirectly led to her mother's death. With no one or nothing keeping her there she heads to America, to her best friend, her only family left. She meets Zac and he becomes a friend and then more. He helps her to secure a job that wiill introduce her to someone crucial to the story connect her world with his. Only problem is, it could endanger a plethora of lives and in doing so, place in peril any chance at a HEA for her. For him.
Will she accept his job? Will he quiet past demons? Will love have a chance to win out?
Love this author and this series. Great characters. Stories. World.
Oh Michelle how you broke my heart and put it back together again. I have loved this series from the very start. When I read book one and read about all the guys I was so excited to see that each one was getting his book and i was not disappointed either. Each guy had his own issues but when they fell they fell hard and did whatever it took to get their girl and keep here.
In We Were Lost we meet Zac who is a widower and does not want to get into another relationship. He has decided that he will have friends with benefits but when he meets Chloe all bets are off because what he thought was once dead his heart is now beating wildly for Chloe and he wants to be more than friends.
But Chloe is a wild child and she has no intentions on settling down. She does what she wants when she wants and where she wants but Zac does something to her heart and she is finally considering settling down with Zac and giving him a chance at love. Will Chloe and Zac become one or will they stay friends with benefits?
We Were Lost by Michelle Heard is book 5 in her Southern Heroes, a series of standalones. For best reading experience I recommend to read the books in order. The previous books are: The Ocean Between Us- Aiden +Emma; The Girl In The Closet- Cole; The Lies We Tell Ourselves - Alec; All The Wasted Time - Wyatt + Birdie; and now We Were Lost - Zac and Chloe's story. Zac Hutches is part of the family. He was married to Aiden and Wyatt's sister and is still mourning her death. He isn't interested in a ons. He's a serious guy, rational,an true American Alpha Hero. But then she comes, Chloe Jordaan and she changes everything. She's Emma's best friend, a sassy, feisty floater without roots from South Africa. She wants a friends wb only, he starts living again for the first time in a long time. Wev Were Lost is the fitting conclusion to a great series whith "All The Wasted Time" my favorite read. 4,75 stars.
This wonderful series of Southern Heroes now reaches its climax, and I am truly sad to say goodbye. ‘Parting is such sweet sorrow’ and that oxymoron is perfect to describe the mixed emotions this final book in the series elicited.
Zak and Chloe both know the heartache of love and neither are looking for commitment. Their back stories and the losses they have suffered are dealt with in a sensitive and empathetic manner. Whilst there is sorrow there is also plenty of humour, and the characters from the previous books in the series make appearances throughout. I love the men and women living within these pages and the brotherhood between the guys in particular, which is full of warmth, friendship and love.
There are truths to be revealed and loose ends to be tied off and the author does all with aplomb. A fitting and enthralling finale with an epilogue that is everything an addict of the series could wish for....I received an advanced copy of the book from the author.
“I want to be your easiest hello and your hardest goodbye,”
Oh my lord this book was so amazing. Michelle has outdone herself this story will have you catching all the feels and it's the final one in this awesome series. I absolutely loved Zac and Chloe these 2 are like opposite attracts that's probably the reason I loved them more.
This is about Zac who had suffered a lost love and had decided to never love again well that ended as soon as Chloe blew into town she is everything he's not and he is suddenly questioning his feeling's toward her and himself.
"If I did something right in my life, it was giving him my heart."
This is a must read for sure and if you've been reading about the boy's in the series you need to grab it if you haven't then definitely start with the 1st book and fall in love with each and everyone of them and their ladies.
I’ve always had a soft spot for Zac. His love story was perfect. Until his wife was murdered. Zac always thought he’d never find love again because Laurie was his first and perfect love. While everyone else around him are finding their HEA he’s just living. Fixated on his job and one specific case. All is focus is centered around arresting everyone involved in the meth making and distribution in his town. Chloe leaves her country of South Africa to stay with her best friend Emma for a while. Outwards she appears carefree. But Chloe harbors a lot of pain and hurt. She no longer believes in love. It will take fun loving Chloe to open Zac’s eyes that maybe he can find love again. Zac is determined to show Chloe that she’s worthy and to put her doubts aside. These two are so good for one another. Each one of them brings out the missing pieces and parts of the other. Their journey was hard. It had its ups and downs. But it takes strong conviction and strength to get their HEA.
Like all the other books in this series, We Were Lost was a beautiful touching story. It flows really well and is easily a quick read. Each Character is unique with their own set of complexities, their own opinions, and their own personality. They are well developed and multidimensional. The author's writing style is brilliantly crafted she pours so much emotion and empathy into her characters you can't help but feel them in your soul. This book is bittersweet as it is the final chapter in the Southern Heroes Series. As usual, I am a greedy reader and I wish there was more. We are given closure but I really hope we see more of these characters in crossovers in the future.
Loved the final book in this series!! Zac has been a background character in the other stories, and I have been anxiously waiting to read his story. It was a perfect ending to this series!! It was heartbreaking, emotional, and romantic. Chloe is Emma’s best friend, and she moves to be with her best friend after a family tragedy. The banter and energy she brings to the story and Zac’s life makes this story a must read. I loved this series, I’m so sad it’s over!! Can’t wait to see what’s next from this Author!!
This is the last book of the series and I hate to see everyone go but it’s perfect ending. This is Zac & Chloe’s story. Zac is still morning the loss of his wife until he meets Chloe. Chloe is one feisty woman that you just wanna be her friend cause she will make you smile and laugh. Both Chloe and Zac are going through heartache and maybe together they can overcome it all. Angst love story that pulls at your heart. I loved every page. 5/5 stars
Michelle Heard has ended the Southern Heroes series with a very emotional read. We Were Lost will pull you in and make you feel the hurt Zac has. It is a beautifully written conclusion that will make you fall in love with the characters and the story itself.
It is highly recommended that you read this series in order from beginning to end so that you fully understand the story line. This last book, will give you a HEA with all the feels and make you wish the series did not have to end.
I'm sad this series is over, but what a fantastic journey it was!
Chloe and Zac... they each had their own demons to fight, all while breaking down each other's walls. I have never been happier for two halves to become whole.
The series was wrapped up quite nicely with this final book... nothing was left unanswered, and we got to see into the future. This was a fabulous series!! I loved each and every book!! Xo
Its the final book in this series and it couldn't have ended more perfect then it did. Zac lost his wife 4yrs ago he's not looking for love just focused on his work. In storms Chloe from South Africa with all her witty remarks and care free personality. She too is not interested in long term love. They collide in the best way and don't know what hits them until they in to deep.
Sad to see the boys are over but Michelle has something amazing planed next.
4 STARS FOR WE WERE LOST!! Wow, what a great wow to end the series. Zac and Chloe definitely had all the feels going and I enjoyed their story. This author has written a great series, I highly recommend it.
The death of a spouse is never easy but, what happens when you meet a beautiful, spunky, sassy woman? That's exactly what happens to Zach when he meets Chloe. Such a beautiful storyline and well written. This is the conclusion to an amazing series.
We Were Lost is the fifth and final book of this series, and can be read as a stand-alone. I really enjoyed it. It was a fun read. I loved the build up of the relationship between Zac and Chloe after what happened when they met.
I loved this series, and I was so happy to get Zac's story finally! He really needed a HEA! I loved Chloe too, she had a great personality. This was the perfect ending to a great series!
