Two teenage boys, from opposite ends of the social scale (one is the Prime Minister's son, the other from a single-parent family living on a poor council estate) become entrapped in a criminal conspiracy. In trying to escape, they discover a secret military weapon that combines a film camera and sonic ultrasound weapon. After various adventures which include having the weapon stolen by a blackmailer, they foil a plot to assassinate political leaders. The twist is that the boys were swapped at birth, a complication that adds tension to the plot. The novel, as well as being a fast-paced thriller, poses questions of how social and environmental differences can affect outcomes for young people. Other issues explored are homelessness, youth runaways, crime and drug use.
