"You're the only woman whose heartbeat I want to feel against mine."WOW!! Professor with Benefits was all kinds of awesome!
As far as I could tell, the best thing about ageing was that the older I got, the fewer fucks I gave about the opinions of my peers.A chance meeting with the mysterious Kellan at a party breathes some momentary life into her.
His voice alone was enough to part my legs. The attraction between them is immediate, and while Kellan isn't sure, he thinks it might go beyond the physical.
I wanted to know more about the pain in her eyes. But the joke is on both of them because it turns out Kellan is the last-minute replacement professor for one of Sadie's classes when the new semester starts.
"I believe two consenting adults should be allowed to do whatever they want behind closed doors as long as it doesn't hurt anyone."In no way was Kellan the aggressor or Sadie the victim (in fact, Sadie would be highly offended by the idea, lol). But the rules are the rules . . .
There was nothing safe about the way I wanted her.I LOVED everything about the writing here; the conversational feel of it, the slightly dark tone, the heat, the fabulous banter, and the poignant self-realization. It all came together as these two wonderfully complex characters fell in love.
“Is this room 408?” I smiled too hard. “I prefer Sadie.”
“I asked you because I couldn’t help myself.” She cocked her head. “Because you’re a star.” “A star?” she asked, narrowing her eyes at me. “I think you mean stardust?” “That depends on whether I want to flatter you with science or literature.”
“I mean, of all the kinds of freedom a person could enjoy, I’d trade financial and spiritual freedom for the freedom to not give a fuck what other people thought of me every day of the week.”
“What’s your star sign?” My eyes popped wide. “Seriously?” “No. Not seriously.” My chest loosened. “You realize most people don’t even know their actual star sign, right?” “What do you mean?” “I mean the zodiac calendar was fixed over two thousand years ago, and the Earth has shifted on its axis since then. So, basically, while the constellations themselves haven’t changed, they have “drifted” in terms of when they appear.”
“His eyes narrowed. “What?” “Kintsugi. The Japanese art of golden joinery.” He cocked his head. “You’re losing me.” “They do this thing in Japan where they repair broken pottery with golden lacquer.” His bottom lip protruded as he listened. “And the effect is basically that it calls attention to imperfections by highlighting them and making them beautiful. It also makes any piece where this method is applied totally unique.”
