My Crazy (Sick) Love is an easy, quick and lovable read that you will want to finish in one sitting.
My Crazy (Sick) Love is a unique romantic comedy that will make you feel many emotions at once. The novel’s protagonist, Amanda, is a woman living with an illness that makes it hard to live her day to day life. At times it felt hard for me to watch her panic about her health, especially knowing that hypochondria controlled most of her thought processes. I did feel for her, as I can not imagine living my life the way she does. Although she frustrated me at times, I did ultimately root for her and her love interest, Brian, to be together. My favorite part of this novel is Amanda and Brian’s romance; they are just so sweet together and it seems like they were made for each other. They are both round, funny and exciting characters and I felt interested in them and their story.
I like this story. I think it is very special that this novel centers around hypochondria, as I have never read a fiction novel about the disease, and that is what made the book stand out to me. Drica Pinotti writes well; the narrative flows nicely and I enjoyed reading her dialogue the most. She also does a good job showing imagery and making details palpable. The pacing of the story was fast, as most romanic comedy books have a fast pace, but at times I do wish certain situations were slowed down a little just so I could savor them a little more. Overall, though, I enjoyed getting to know the characters and I also really liked the different themes seem in the story such as feelings of love, fear and acceptance. I suggest this novel to anyone who wants to read a quick, humorous, and all around feel good story. This book teaches you that it is okay to open yourself up to others, and that you should let in the people who truly love you.
I just finished My Crazy (Sick) Love. I didn't hate it but .... This was a hard read for me. The story at times seemed scattered and as if the thoughts of the main character were not coherent. I know she was suffering from hypochondria but mylanta it was too much for me. I wish the writing style had been more precise and organized. It seemed as if it was rushed and thrown together to call a book. Cute, quirky, but wasn't my style.

Okay...fair warning here...this review is going to get a little ranty.
The premise for this book sounded good, potentially humorous even. The cover is super cute. I was excited to get started on it. And then I saw the addendum to the title. Really? "A delightful laugh-out-loud romantic comedy" as part of the TITLE? No. That's not okay. As a blurb? Sure. But don't put it in your title. It sounds way too cocky and pretentious. But...I soldiered on and started the book anyway.
First impression? The main character is annoying. She gave ME anxiety with her anxiety. It was all immersive and way too much. Is it accurate for a hypochondriac? Probably. So, points for accuracy. But it still was just hit-you-in-the-face assaulting. I took a few deep breaths and kept reading, despite the heart palpitations it induced.
I settled into the writing a bit more as the story went on and I will admit that Pinotti does have a good style. She is creative and the narrative does move fairly well MOST of the time. There are occasions where the plot just abruptly changes direction and there are times when pieces of the plot dissolve into oblivion. That could use a little work. But when things go in the right direction, the writing is good.
I got this book as an ARC and generally expect that there will be some errors in typography or phrasing (let's be frank, there are doubtless some irritating errors in this very review), but this was way excessive. Sometimes the writing was so jumbled that I had trouble sifting through it. That irritated me. As a reader, I need to know that the author has taken some care with the writing. And some of these errors should have been caught on an initial editing, with ease. When it feels like the author doesn't care about that kind of detail, it makes me care less about the work. A little basic effort goes a long way. I can overlook some punctuation errors here and there or maybe a misspelling and rough transition or two, but this was...to be blunt...an editing disaster. And as much as I should generally ignore these things with ARCs, I just couldn't; because I don't know how much of that is going to get caught prior to publishing.
The storyline at its core was good and I have to assume that there will be/have been some major editing corrections prior to final publication, so I let my rating have a little bit of a bump up. Maybe this is too generous, I don't know.
After fighting the urge on several occasions to DNF and constantly looking at how many pages remained, I did manage to finish the entire book. Was it worth it? Meh. It was okay. There wasn't anything beyond a regular trope and nothing terribly unexpected or marvelous happened. It was pretty predictable. But, with maybe toning down the character in the first third of the book and some careful revision, this could be a decent book that would rate a 3 or 3 1/2 for me. As is, I initially wanted to give it a 1.5. However, I gave that extra credit for the assumed power of the editor and ultimately landed on a 2.
This book was a humorous look at hypochondria. Is that even possible? In Drica Pinotti's world, it's not only possible but will have the reader laughing as they read. Some of it was a bit over the top but overall I found it an amusing book to read.
Amanda is a single attorney in New York City who is getting close to her 30th birthday. She has a great job, fantastic friends and a good relationship with her mother and sister. She has one main difference because she is a hypochondriac. Every headache must be a brain tumor and ever stomach upset must be cancer. She knows and has visited doctors all over town and has a medicine cabinet full of drugs for different ailments. She isn't really happy unless she's worried about the major diseases that she knows she has. When she meets the man of her dreams, things begin to change and she finds out that love may solve all of her health issues.
I liked the character of Amanda but wish we could have learned more about her than just her hypochondria but since her illnesses were on her mind 24/7, that may be all there was to know about her. I thought that the novel was well written and the author did research so that she'd know what kind of medicine would be needed for which disease. I didn't totally connect with this book or with Amanda but am willing to speculate that there are a lot of differences in the though process of an 30 year old and an older grandma like me.
My Crazy (Sick) Love is going to be my favorite read. Initially, the book is a slow start, but once you start its smooth sailing. I have never come across a fiction book where the novel's protagonist has an disease and the story revolves around it. Here, Amanda is a hypochondriac who has no control over her obsessive thoughts on her illness, making her regular like impossible to live. The story is well written and hilarious. Everyday Amanda wakes up, she has a new disease and also convinces her loved ones that she is going to die of a terminal illness. With all this going on in her life, I love the way she still has an almost funny open perspective of finding her soul-mate. I really enjoyed the way Brian was introduced into the story and the romance that kindles between them.
Over all, I give this book a 5 star rating because it had all the elements/emotions that I was looking for in this book. Drica Pinotti has done one heck of research about the disease and has formed an excellent character out of it. Loved the way she wrote it and looking for to reading more of her works.
First look at this book, I love the cover and this is the first book I've read that has a hypochondriac as the main character.
The characters in this book weren't my favorite. The main character Amanda was kinda annoying. I know she's a hypochondriac and she knows it but I feel like that's all we know about her. We don't get to really see her personality whatsoever. I felt like she was her mental illness and that was it something I'm not a fan of. I would have killed to see her have a regular day where we get to know more about her rather than her calling up multiple doctors for a check up since she believes she has cirrhosis of the liver but in reality she was just hung over. I felt like most of the stuff she freaked out over was just plain silly, but this could be an accurate representation of someone who is a hypochondriac, I don't know for sure as I have no experience with someone that is it. We don't really get to know Brian either. I felt like that was one of my main issues with this book, we just don't get to know our characters which made them kinda flat.
The relationship in this book was very quick and kinda non existent. Honestly it confused me. They liked each other but we never see them really together but they are together? I just don't understand that. I would have liked it more if they got to know each other a bit and be around each other more.
Plot wise this book fell short and didn't grasp my attention. I didn't find that there was much of a plot besides Amanda somehow getting help? I'm not sure how that all happened exactly but it was just overall confusing. This book however was interesting because of two things. Amanda being a hypochondriac and the book being a short quick read.
Now just because this book wasn't for me doesn't mean it couldn't be for you.
Note: I received this book from the author and this review is my unbiased opinion.
★ ★ ½ My Crazy (Sick) Love exhausted me. One of the reasons I read it was because I was curious about Amanda’s hypochondria. I know I have had moments where I was filled with anxiety and worried that something was wrong with me, so I thought it would be easy to relate to. I was also curious how this mental illness would work in a romance. Unfortunately, it didn’t work all that well for me in this case. Amanda’s suffering was completely overwhelming. Her thoughts took over the whole story and made it hard to focus on any other aspect of it. I didn’t find anything about it humorous.
That’s not to say that writing wasn’t good. I thought it was very good and felt like it was well researched. I also really liked Brian’s character. My Crazy (Sick) Love might just be one of those books that works better for others than it did for me.
Don't send me flowers, unless I'm dead. And don't look at this as some sort of lack of gratitude (although it may look that way), but how can I thank anyone who sends a biological weapon into my house? That's not a present. It's an attempt on my life! Flowers are like bombs to my immunological system, triggering a very serious allergic reaction in me. No one can imagine how I feel. It's more or less like this: flowers give off pollen, a cloud of almost invisible dust that floats about the air. Well, that pollen gets stuck in my throat, attacks my bronchial tract, causing an inflammation in my airways, and I begin to suffocate. A few minutes later, if I don't get immediate attention, I could become just another cadaver among the statistics. Now tell me. Is that a present to send someone?
When you really think about it, who needs a man when you have a stock of Godiva chocolate in the closet?

I requested for this book last year but couldn't read it .
I was quite fascinated by its cover..

I must admit that I had mixed feelings about the story in the quarter of the book because it’s centred so much around Amanda and her dealing with hypochondria disease. I felt that there were to many detailed descriptions of everything she was doing and how she lived her life, but as a medical trained member by day , I can say that it’s been very well researched and it’s important to understand how some people are struggling to deal and live every single day with it because usually we take for granted everything around us or we’re just to ignorant to see what’s happening in front of us. I strongly believe that everyone needs someone in their life to love and be loved and to experience all the rollercoaster feelings and this book is perfectly the exemplified story that everyone needs to read for a well written, fast paced story with great and reliable characters.
As a case study of the mania of living as a hypochondriac, this may work. As a humorous fictional tale, it's painful to read. An example:
"Well, you might as well know right from the get-go that although I panic every morning after thinking I have cirrhosis or cancer of the liver and pancreas – just so you have an idea of how vivid my imagination can get – I go right on drinking. I must confess that I also enjoy a cigarette after a good cup of coffee or a meal fit for a king. It is this combination that gives me a month full of reasons to believe that one day I am bound to have serious throat problems or lung cancer."
I made it 52% before I gave up, and it's all like that. The lead character is completely self-absorbed and, quite frankly, awful. If the rest of the story redeems her, I don't care enough to find out.
🤒 Can hypochondria have a humorous side? 🤔 3-3.5🌟stars I will admit, the author's dry, tongue-in-cheek humor in this book was fun. But I did find the story a bit of a slog. I had to keep taking breaks away from Amanda's rambles about yet another suspected dire illness, no matter how amusing her conviction that she's a frail flower on the brink of collapse. I also found malapropisms that made for some confusion as to what the author really wanted to convey.
This read was out of the ordinary and heroine Amanda is off the charts eccentric. With more romance and action from the story's start, I think this could have been a better flowing and more enjoyable read.
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for providing a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
I really enjoyed Mu Crazy (Sick) Love recently while on holidays. It's not my normal genre but I thought it was perfect for beside the pool reading. It was easy to pick up where I left off, the story was easy to follow and uncomplicated and plus all of that it was very enjoyable. I initially chose to read it because of the New York aspect, a city I love so much. It was a funny story, particularly because I know and secretly chuckle regularly at a number of hypochondriacs in my life. Amanda needed a distraction, as I've realised oh so often is true in the case of may hypochondriacs, once they find something else to focus on, may of their symptoms disappear. This is a funny romantic comedy that will keep you entertained, a great holiday accompanyment this summer.
*3.5 Stars. As someone who suffers from extreme anxiety, I found this book to be a very relatable story. Amanda, in the beginning, is someone who allows her anxieties and hypochondria to run her life and make her decisions for her. She has a system, granted not a very healthy system so that she can avoid any unpleasantness that life may throw at her. It takes falling in love and other circumstances to occur for her to see this isn't a healthy way of living and she makes the adjustments needed to better enjoy her life! There were parts I felt dragged on, especially the medical jargon, but I understand how it was necessary to the story! Overall an enjoyable read!
Thanks to the publisher and #netgalley for the eARC.
This novel follows Amanda, who is a hypochondriac lawyer, as she maneuvers her way around New York and doctor offices/hospital to cure and confirm her own diagnoses and find love.
This was a fun and quick read. If you love rom coms and all the cheesiness that comes with it- this is your book! The only thing I did not like was that about 80% of the book is focused on Amanda and her hypochondriac diagnoses. We don't get too much of her and Brian until then.
** Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with the digital copy of this book in exchange for my honest review ** La historia es de fácil lectura, totalmente una comedia romántica.
Such a heartwarming read. I have to thank netgalley and the publishers for this wonderful book! This story is about a newyork lawyer Amanda and the fact that she has a medical condition which makes her feel apart from other ordinary women of her age. Then when she meet Brian things started to change for her. I loved the connection she had with her family. Mainly her mother. This is a unique love story. I have to say that I haven't read anything quiet like it. It was a fun read for me. Hope you'll enjoy it too.
Never judge a book by its cover. The cover was cute, the book was bad. Whoever thought a romcom about hypochondrisis without proper knowledge and sensitivity was a good idea... I cannot stress enough that love is not a cure all for mental illness. The relationships were flat and the main character not compelling enough to carry a novel. This book wasn't for me, but maybe some will like it . I received this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review, all opinions are my own.
I love the idea of this book, a woman trying to live a normal life while dealing with a mental illness like hyperchondria. There were some great parts, and the writing was fun and lighthearted while also exploring the challenges Amanda faces. But it was a struggle to keep going at times. As much as I wanted to enjoy this, I found Amanda frustrating and the idea of love being the cure to mental health problems just glosses over the real causes of her struggles.
I received an advanced digital copy of this book from the author, publisher and NetGalley.com. Thanks to all for the opportunity to read and review. The opinions expressed in this review are my own.
Ms. Pinotti's new book is quirky, to be sure, but fails in the end to win the reader over. Details are fantastic to the point that they suspend disbelief. The lead character is so self absorbed and neurotic that this was almost a "Did Not Finish".
If I could give this book zero stars, I would. Not only is the protagonist a vapid little brat, the author somehow found it amusing to have her idiot heroine be bitten by a pit bull. Way to perpetuate a stereotype, one that's gotten thousands of innocent animals murdered. I am completely disgusted.
This story reminded me of my crybaby sister. So many complaints that need to be fixed immediately with a pill. You get tired of listening to it very quickly. Despite the imaginary problems these people can manage to find living support. Just proves that there is somebody out there for everyone.
I would recommend this novel to anyone who wants to read a quick, humorous, and feel good story. It caught my eye because the story centers around a character that is a hypochondriac. I don’t think I have come across this before, at least not in the depth and detail in this novel. I liked getting to know a little more about hypochondria. All around I would recommend this book.
I did enjoy read this book, as I know the writer I was reading and imagine that was her the main character, ( sorry Drica) I’m excited to read the other books of you as well! Well done dear!
I recommend this book for those like a nice romance with some comedy as well. I like romance books. This book will have the Number 2?
This book had a lot of potential. While I understand that the main character suffered with being a hypochondriac, I found that the main character was very annoying, and I had a hard time at points keeping up with the storyline versus the characters string of thoughts and paranoia.
I found this book pretty hilarious at times and also I could totally relate as I tend to be a bit of hypochondriac myself! The author definitely researched well. Thank you to netgalley for the arc.
