In the most difficult days of the Great Depression, a former war hero and federal agent, turned itinerant preacher, arrives in a small east Tennessee mountain town and employs some unorthodox methods to help lift the lives and spirits of its citizens.
A mysterious preacher arrives to a small southern town with a failing economy, a whore house, a greedy banker, criminal moonshiners and weaves together it’s people and businesses through a smart and funny economical and moral turnaround. I fell in love with the characters. Full of moments when two separate lines of cause-and-effect unexpectedly interact under the hand of God, with the influence of a resourceful, unconventional preacher. Excellent book! Would be an outstanding movie.
If you like a feel good story such as the Waltons, Touched By An Angel, or Highway To Heaven, you will enjoys this historical religious fiction narrative set during the Great Depression.
Although there is thematic unity in Raven, each separate chapter could serve as a television episode.
DM Barrett does a good job infusing lesser known historical events from the period. Also, he deals with racism, fascism, anti-semitism, and other issues with care and sensitivity.
There are a few particularly touching chapters so keep the box of tissues handy.
It is definitely worth reading if you enjoy the genre!
There is just something so remarkably pure about this book. OMG, I could not put it down. The Raven, the person, is just absolutely the best, and you will fall in love with him. And to no surprise, he must be heaven sent! In a time of loss, despair, and uncertainty, using his wit and charm, he changes the trajectory of so many lives all while restoring a town to its former thriving self again. Superb!!
You’re going to love ❤️❤️❤️ it!!! It’s for all readers.
This is a very inspiring story that shows the strength and tenacity of the human spirit. DM Barrett brings the characters to life in his Great Depression narrative. It's worth reading TWICE!
