Rate this book
Author Laurence O'Toole argues that the expansion of new technologies-video, cable, the Internet-is substantially changing the status of pornography in society. Covering the American and British porn scenes, Pornocopia features interviews with porn activists and police officers and is the first book to seriously consider the role and interest of the porn viewers and porn fans.

We've come a long way since the book was first published. But it is very interesting to go back in time. Increased sexualization in British and American society, definition of the term pornography, porn vs art, sexual objectification, the history of stag, the Golden Age of Porn, porn in the USA, the perils of cyberspace and cybersex. All chapters culminate into the theory of the author that pornography is in the final strand and its final state is porncopia. Well, I have my doubts about it but it was a very intriguing scientific book. A few pictures and photo section would have loosened it a bit up though. Really recommended!

This book is a bit dated given the huge impact the internet has had in the porn business , but it is still a fairly insightful look at both the business, and politics of porn and attempts to censor it. It is gives an interesting historical context to recent attempted by the British government to prevent porn from spreading on the internet.

The book is a little bit dated, but it is great if you want to understand the history of porn in the USA. Especially relevant if you want do do some research on porn in pre-internet times.
