Mermaid Academy

Rate this book
The Academy, where only the elite are sent to train. The Trials might be over, but I’m not out of danger. I worked hard to get here, but now I have to fight to stay alive. I battled for my life in the Trials. But the worst isn’t over. Now the winners must study, work, and pass deadly tests meant to break us down and test our mettle. If we fail, or even falter, we are dismissed. The shame would be impossible to live with. But I have no intention of failing. The classes are grueling, especially for the kingdom’s future ambassador on land. But there’s more happening behind the scenes than I could have imagined. My friend Dane turned out to be a prince in disguise. He is demanding the same training. But he is in more danger than he thought, and our friendship means that I am a target too. His mother, the queen, wants me to take my place at his side, as royalty. But that is not what I want. I want to walk on land and serve the sea. What does that mean for Dane and me?

4.5 stars!

Overall, this was one hell of a truly fantastic reading experience as was the case with book 1, Mermaid Trials.

Did miss some of the 'essence' that was present in book 1, mostly because some characters weren't present much in this one (although there are some new characters being introduced whom were fun to read about as well).

Beforehand I was afraid to start it, seeing it's quite thinner than book 1, but it's insane how well written the story still is despite there being fewer pages than I was expecting.

I wish there would've been a bit more romance development, but at the same time it's refreshing that there isn't much focus on it so the story itself could be more developed. I loved going on adventure with these lovable characters yet again.

The book is, as was the case with the awesome first book in the series, filled with action. There's not a single dull page to be found. It's such an addictive read and I couldn't flip the pages fast enough.

Cannot wait to see how the story is going to continue in the next installment! If you like re-tellings - this one has some cinderella elements combined with the little mermaid -, fast paced reads, awesome characters, humor, action and adventure... Then this series is one you should Definitely pick up ASAP!

Mermaids and Mayhem

The story continues and this is not your usual mermaid tale (yep, accidental pun, I promise). The story and the characters are interesting. You do have the usual court intrigue and "over throw the kingdom" plots, plus the girl who had ro decide between her ambitions and dreams, and the person she loves...

It is a good second installment in the series.

The Trials from Book 1 are over, but the danger continues. Everyone who survived the Trials was still nervous about starting at the Academy, which is a school that opens only once every hundred years, a place to train and to prepare the next wave of warriors. There is not only rigorous study demanding full attention, but deadly tests are conducted to break down the students and reveal their worthiness. And it’s not only your own life to worry about, but that of friends you care for and want to protect. Not everyone survived the Academy!

Katriana (“Tri”) went down to the stables to visit her familiar, a white shark named Beazil. It didn’t take long before Prince Pollux, also known as her former-friend-Dane, swam into Beazil’s stall. He also figured out the pattern of when she visited, so he spent the week popping in on her. She repeated often that they were just friends, especially with him being a Royal Prince, but he didn’t seem to like that friend idea very much. She didn’t need the distraction of him being near her with the way she really felt about him, and others had begun to speculate about their relationship. She hadn’t remembered that she and Dane were the only two Sparks – so she would be sharing all of her classes with him!

General Candar came into the room for the combat class. He had an exercise that would eliminate some of the students from the Academy. As the bullies started to pick on Starla, Tri followed by Dane and Rip swam down to protect her. Apparently Tri was being targeted and her wounds from the fighting sticks they carried had her bleeding and becoming weak. The General wouldn’t let her be taken to a medic, but Annaruth used a spell to stop the pain and Rip and Dane took her away so Annaruth could talk to them. Because the thought of a common-born Royal doesn’t sit well with some people – as if Tri becomes Dane’s Princess – someone may be trying to kill her off. Annaruth believed the attack on her was politically motivated and a real danger. So Annaruth is putting protection spells on all of them, even Baezil. Dane kissed her forehead and left the room, as she noticed it was spelled for her protection and Royal guards stood right outside. Safe, she fell asleep. But could she really be kept safe in the dangerous school environment? Dane’s mother, the queen, wants Tri to take her place at Dane’s side, as royalty. But that is not what Tri wants. Will her decision hurt him? Will she be forced to give him up? And how much more will the danger worsen around her as their enemies get desperate?

This is such a good series! I am totally enjoying this well-written book full of intrigue and mystery! Katriana continues to have a deep inner strength and an attitude for survival will not admit defeat. She takes care of those she loves, regardless of danger to herself. The story continues to be focused on relationships and the important life considerations that matter to all of us. Katriana’s struggle pulls readers in to be her personal cheerleaders. What will she have to sacrifice along the way to reach her dreams? Grab your copy and see what is waiting ahead for her!

This is the second book in the series and continues straight on from the first, with all successful Mers from the trials having to attend the Academy to be trained for their new jobs. It's a great book, and I really enjoyed it. It has even more drama and tension than the first, and we see the friendships and romances develop too. We also see more magic, and find out more about Mer society, their beliefs about humans, and their interpretations of us and our actions. I especially loved Teegers (tigers) and Tia's obsession with them! But the best part of the book is the drama leading to the tense finale. A thrilling read, and I can't wait to read the next and find out what happens, both above and below the waves!
NB I received a complimentary copy of this book, but I always give an HONEST review based wholly on my own opinions

Cameron Drake has done it again! This book was an amazing continuation of book 1 and left me screaming “ I WANT THE NEXT BOOK NOW!”

Katrianna and Dane are back along with Rip, Starla, Marcum, Juno, etc..... Now that The Trials are over they are at The Academy learning what they need to go on and do their jobs. They have classes such as Combat Training and Magical Transformation as well as others.

It is evident very early on that Katrianna needs to watch her back because someone or maybe more than someONE wants her eliminated from the Academy. The love between Dane and Tri grows throughout this book even though Tri tries (as she did in Book 1) to downplay her feelings.

I don’t want to say to much and spoil anything so I will just say you will not be disappointed with this book!

This is book 2 and the trials are over and the ones who survived have gone to the academy but the danger is not over and now they have so much studying and more tests which are dangerous. Prince Pollux aka Dane falls for Katriana but his mother the queen isn’t happy about that at all she doesn’t want her son involved with a commoner. The danger is getting worse for Katriana and her friends but things are not going to get any easier she gets bullied and she gets beaten up from the sticks in combat class and the general won’t let her get taken to a medic so there is more going on here that Katriana and her friends know about. A fantastic story and I can’t wait until book 3 comes out this story is getting real exciting and I highly recommend this book.

What a surprise for me! I haven't read the previous book, yet, but surprisingly, I still got an excellent grasp of this story. The trials are over, but the danger grows, even worse than before, for Katriana. Her friends lives are endangered just by associating with her. And Dane? He is even more besotted and it complicates matters even more. For he is Prince Pollux and his mother the queen has other plans for him and most assuredly not with a commoner. Wow! Action, drama, sweet romance and deadly intrigue. Very impressive! I most definitely await the continuation of Katriana's story. Very nice!

A whirlwind of a book! There's so much going on, so many plot twists that I couldn't help but lose myself in it. Katriana is such a strong character! Not that I didn't love the other characters as well! How couldn't I? The book is well written and the characters well developed, and there's plenty of mystery, suspense, intrigue and romance to keep me a happy reader. What more could I want? Just the next book in the series!

After waiting for what seemed like a lifetime, this book finally released and dear lord it was simply fantastic and beautifully written. This one picked up where we left off in the first book and I was enthralled from beginning to end. The storyline and characters are amazing and I must say that this author knows how to hook you in. However, Cameron Drake is killing me as now I have to once again wait for book three. You must read this now!!!

An exciting experience. So much is lurking be it magic, danger, knowledge... love? It can be difficult trying to figure out your path when life tosses you so many variables that you would never expect. An array of amazing choices that veer so far from life long dreams. No path is easier than the other. Can't wait to see what happens next. An amazing read.

Tri survived the trials and must now survive the academy. She will give her all for her dream of walking on land. Even when people are doing things behind the scenes and Dane's mother, the queen, has her own agenda of what she wants and who she wants where. I can't wait to see what the next book bring to this amazing story.

I waited 4 years to read this book, and the way this ended wasn't fair! I need Tri and Dane together! Come on, they deserve to be happy after everything. I knew that there was more to Tri's genealogy than what was in the first book and most of this one. She had powers and abilities that didn't make sense for someone of common birth. There is so much more that needs to be unraveled. And I just want Tri and Dane together.

I absolutely fell in love with this story from the start of book one. Mermaids just have a special place in my heart. I was hooked from the start and simply could not put it down. Now I will be impatiently waiting for the next one. Highly recommend if you like a good mermaid story with suspense and a little romance.

What an awesome follow up to book 1, The Mermaid Trials.
Making it into the Academy certainly doesn't mean the fight to survive is over. I was so thrilled to read the continued story of much loved familiar characters. This book definitely lives up to the first one and I can't wait to read what happens next!

A good follow up to Mermaid Trials, but didn’t feel as complete as the first. Of course, it ends in a cliffhanger so a sequel is on the horizon.

The chapters felt short and fast, and while I appreciate the happenings in this book some things could’ve used a bit more development.

Needless to say, I’m looking forward to the next book!

Overall: 3/5
Characters:3/5
Plotline:3/5
Enjoyment Factor:3/5

Review: This was a unique continuation from the first book and I think it just wasn't long enough. I wanted more of our characters from the first book and more lore. We did get some of the history which was really cool and fun. I am interested to see where this is going cause it did end in a very interesting spot.
