Poppy Green can talk to animals! Unfortunately, they never talk back to her. So she started writing in order to imagine what they might say and do when humans aren’t watching. Poppy lives on the edge of the woods in Connecticut, where her backyard is often a playground for all kinds of wildlife: birds, rabbits, squirrels, voles, skunks, deer, and the occasional wild turkey.
The Sophie Mouse books continue to deliver great reading experiences and smiles to my children. I can see where it could be an important book for children, especially if they have their first loose tooth and have any anxiety over that. Some of the Sophie Mouse books remind me of the Daniel Tiger series in that they help children through situations and feelings that are challenging. Sophie Mouse gets her first loose tooth here and has a lot of fears and worries about that (but, of course, she overcomes them and there's a happy ending). I appreciate books in which children's fears are handled with respect and sensitivity. This was a another winner with my children and they've already asked for a reread. My oldest son pointed out that Sophie is rather old, at eight years old, for it to be her first loose tooth. He'd anxiously awaited the arrival of this book at the library as he thought maybe it would be a prequel of sorts and that Sophie would actually be six years old here since it is her first loose tooth... but, no, she's eight, same as always ;-)
3.5 stars. Sophie loses her first tooth and the tooth fairy doesn't come. I liked this book, but we do tooth fairy things differently in our house so that was a little awkward. There also was an explanation for why the tooth fairy was late, but it was still kind of sad and weird.
When Sophie Mouse's tooth starts getting wiggly, she gets scared. A friend at school tells her that there is no need to worry because the Tooth Fairy will come and replace your tooth with a prize. But when the Tooth Fairy never shows up, Sophie wonders if she lost her chance for the Tooth Fairy to come. Does she even exist?
Read aloud. This one is sweet and I laughed out loud at the tooth fairy antics. Since we don’t do the tooth fairy, my kids kept saying “tell your parents! Tell your parents the tooth is under your pillow!” which was pretty funny.
I'm pretty sure we had already read this one, but I hadn't recorded it on Goodreads, so we read it again. Can't say enough about the Sophie Mouse series! My 6-year-old and I love it!
