Lessons in life come at different times. If we are willing to learn them, they change our lives forever. While the wisdom of this woman in the woods was timely, it was at the same time a surprise. For Joshua, it was the very definition of serendipity. What he learned in the hills of his family's mountainside home shaped him in a variety of ways. In sharing his story, he hopes to shape the lives of others, also.
Joshua Michael Johnson writes creative nonfiction and fiction. He lives in Hattiesburg, Mississippi and teaches composition at the University of Southern Mississippi. His work has been published in SNReview, Static Movement and he was awarded the Ken Smith Award for Creative Nonfiction in 2008 and 2009 by the Meacham Writers’ Workshop.
