Ugh. I didn't like this hero from the beginning. In the Prologue he basically taunts the heroine into having sex with him. And right there is a problem. The heroine sleeps with the hero, why? I couldn't figure it out. He then proceeds to bang her in the backseat of either his car of hers, doesn't use a condom, thinks she might be a virgin oh and my favorite:

Just a moment before enter her, I look into her eyes. With tears beading at the corners, her eyelids drooping, and the haze of lust thick beneath them, I can barely see anything.

That doesn't count as a "no", so I push in, keeping her mouth busy as I bury my cock deeper and deeper inside her.

THAT DOESN'T COUNT AS A NO??

That had me pausing right there. But I let it slide. Shouldn't have because after he finishes he basically zips up his pants, and puts a box of tissues on her chest, tells her to "Get cleaned up and dressed". Gives her a kiss and says "see you back inside" and the words following that are literally '..before walking off as if nothing happened. I don't even glance back. I just place my car keys in my pocket and walk back to the bar.'

ASS. HAT. DOUCHE. CANOE.

Tho, hey at least her let her finish before him.

Then when they meet (only six years later) it is so implausible how she even ends up going to his room and the whole conversation was bizarre even if he was on drugs. And yeah, I work at a hospital and there is no man or woman wandering around to perform marriages at hospitals. At all. So dumb.

Also, neither one recognizes the other. You think she would at least recall the asshat who took her virginity in the backseat of a car.

Anyway, I just couldn't go much further as he was still an asshat, douchecanoe. The only thing I wanted to know was her reaction to finding out exactly who he was. I just skimmed and she remembers only after he bangs her in a car again and she legit has no reaction.

Then she finds out she's pregnant, wants to stay married to him, tells him she loves him and he's all like, man we were just supposed to be having fun. You know I don't do love.

That's at 90%! 90%! Major grovel required and I doubt he can do it.

So, yeah. Hard pass on reading this author again.

I received this book with the understanding that I could leave a voluntary and honest review.

In this book we meet Marian Carver and Dustin Montgomery. After a tough day it only seems to get better or worse depending on how you look at it when these two meet. Dustin is in the hospital for an appendectomy when Marian comes to look at him. She is already getting in trouble from another doctor as well as not being able to find her three interns. So when Dustin asks her to marry him she thinks this is just the cherry on top. Dustin doesn't remember the time in his room before his surgery. So when he is informed by his sister-in-law that he is married he thinks she is joking. Will these two find a HEA they were never looking for or will they just chalk it up to a mistake that happened one day?

This is an amazing story. It does have its ups and downs I really want to tell you about. However I don't want to ruin it for any other readers. I will say this book will have you on the edge of your seat from the first word to the very end. I would highly recommend it to anyone and everyone.

This is very badly written. The plot is completely foolish and unrealistic, the characters also.
The plot was happening too fast - so we got none of character development nor had a chance to care about the characters.

Dustin Montgomery was buying drinks for his friends as he checked out the bar to find the young college woman he would take home tonight. His attention was drawn to a redhead who appeared to be listening to her friends while her facial expression would indicate lack of interest. She’s fairly ordinary, but he can’t take his eyes off her. His friend, Adam, teased him about his girl-watching, then told him he’d be out of luck if he continued to just sit there. Dustin turned around to see what he meant and saw the redhead leaving. He jumped up and followed her out the door, seeing her rummaging in the back seat of her car and hitting her head on the door frame which was his cue to talk to her.

Dustin flirted with her, telling her she was bored by her friends and should do something she would like. He had answers for her every argument. Each time she tried to walk away, he said something to upset her and make her some back. He’s a master of manipulation, and he finally moved in to kiss her. He took her virginity in the back seat of the car, then calmly walked away without a backward glance, as if nothing happened.

Years later, leaning against the wall, eyes closed, Dr. Marian Carver is ready to drift off to sleep until she hears Dr. Hansen sternly addressing her once again as “Dr. Red” and telling her to wake up and get the lab reports or she will let the Chief Resident know she was napping. She already got in trouble when one of her interns went AWOL. As a matter of fact, she wasn’t sure where the remaining 3 were right now and her fellow surgical resident, Kelly Burbank, hadn’t seen them! However, Kelly whispered to Marian that her day would improve if she took a peek at the hunk in room 2412! And guess what – it’s on the way to the lab! Kelly wasn’t joking – the man was gorgeous. His eyes opened and he immediately started flirting with her. He was scheduled for an appendectomy, but he chuckled over all the crazy risks he’d taken all his life, only to have something like this! Even on morphine, he notices every little detail of her face and compliments her – as her ex-boyfriend never had. He analyzes her behavior, then asks her to marry him so he can make her happy!

Dustin held his breath like a 2-year-old’s tantrum because Marian laughed off his request of marriage, so she figured he would forget all about this when he woke up, so she agreed to it. However, a man overheard her and he said he was authorized to grant licenses and perform a wedding! Dustin wanted it done immediately so he would “not die alone”. Her interns show up and, with all the noise, she doesn’t hear the man ask if she takes this man as her husband. A woman codes nearby and the team is running down the hall to get to her. With the noise and chaos, Dustin calls to her and she responds to his marriage request question and shouted, “I said yes, didn’t I?” Apparently that was all it took to end up married, although neither of them realized it!

Dustin was surfing when a friend said his sister-in-law wanted to talk to him in the hotel. She tried to talk him into becoming responsible, but he hated structure and just wanted to have a fun life. She mentioned his wife – and he was speechless – what?? She showed him a picture on her phone of a marriage certificate issued by Durham County for his marriage. She tells him he needs a quick divorce before word gets out, and hands him prepared divorce papers!

Dustin returns to the hospital to ask Marian about the time he can’t remember before his surgery. She was off duty and had gone home, but her ex-boyfriend was there and wanted her back. The hospital called to tell her Dr. Hansen needed her back there! So she left Liam standing there. When she saw Dustin, she was mad at him, so he got her to tell him about her frustrating day. He actually was helpful, having such a deep understanding of motivation and behavior from his early days. So she let him kiss her – then backed off suddenly, covered her mouth, grabbed her purse and ran! Still not knowing the biggest shock was yet to come, she was flooded with memories of a bar a long time ago, and her vow not to kiss a strange man ever again . . . and that man has decided, after that awesome kiss, that he was going to make her his, at least for a little while. How would all these facts unravel? And how could Liam, Marian’s clinging ex-boyfriend, add even more confusion?

This was such a cute book! I really didn’t like the selfish Dustin at first. Everything was a game or a challenge to him that he was compelled to win. Was he capable of change? Marian was shy and needed someone to speak out and tell her honestly how wonderful she really was – and Dustin knew how to tell her all that he admired in her. Could this explosive pair get over the surprises coming for them, and perhaps see they just might be right for each other after all?

This was a good read. Dustin is about to have surgery and is loopy from the drugs. Yet he and Marian end up married. The only problem is that neither one knew it. Once they both find out Dustin proposes that they give it a year and see how it goes. They have some issues but in the end it all works out.

Unfortunately, I didn't like either character, which means the plot wasn't much help in my ultimate opinion. However, there were a few things that stood out:

1. The premise is so ridiculous. I'm all for suspending disbelief - this is fiction, after all. But a roving wedding officiant who doesn't get clear consent in the middle of a chaotic hospital room and marries two people who don't know each other and then files the paperwork?
2. The male character is so arrogant and self-absorbed, and doesn't ever exhibit any character growth except in a tiny dose when he decides to maybe go back to kinda working on a part-time, at home basis.
3. The whole thing with how the main female character lost her virginity - to the main male character. Neither of them remembers each other. When she finally remembers, she never mentions it to him? That could have been a huge opportunity for character development.

And then there is this exchange later in the book (from the male MC POV):

I always had a feeling he was gay. And to think I was trapped in a lab with him for so many months!

"We're planning to adopt soon," Adam adds excitedly. "What about you? Do you have a wife? A husband?"

Husband? No way!

Um, ew. Nice homophobia there. This exchange wasn't needed at all to explain how much of a manly player the MC was - we already got that in the first chapter :eyeroll:

I had originally intended to read the entire collection from this author, but will not after reading this one :(

DNF

I read to the 23% point. That’s six chapters out of...I don’t know, maybe 150 or so, I guess.
It seems, at the suggested average time to read, (seven hours) extraordinarily long for a simple romance.
But, that wasn’t my issue with it. Dustin, has at this point, been introduced as a bit of a creep, childish, somewhat stalkerish, and generally unlikable H. Marian comes across as a bit of a doormat, and completely unable to make smart decisions - or any decisions, for that matter. Not good, especially when she is supposed to be a successful doctor. So much for our h.
Both were so utterly unlikable, I had no interest in their story at all, (especially when looking at seven full hours of their silliness) and have deleted it from my kindle.

From that opening scene, I never liked Dustin. He was an insensitive jerk. I don’t care how afraid he is to allow himself to feel something but it is common decency to handle the first encounter with Marian with more finesse. For the unintended second chance, he redeemed himself. It is a testament to Marian’s kind-heartedness that she was able to forgive Dustin. Marian is definitely not a mistake. I absolutely hated Dustin, I found him to be manupilative and a bully. As for Marian shuuu she's so easily stumbled and trampled on. I honestly couldn't connect with them individually and as a couple because I found their relationship to be toxic and by page 116 I couldn't bring myself to finish the book, they annoyed the fog out of me. Lol they had me screaming like a mad woman with every page. This one was not for me. Though it takes nothing from Ashlee Price, she's an amazing author.

The author seems pretty judgy or ignorant.

The author seems pretty judgy or ignorant. She continually separates “step” relationships (step parent\child) as less than as well as in-law relationships. Apparently if you are not blood related you can’t possibly care for another human in a familial sense. Also there was a weird homophobic comment about being TRAPPED in a science lab with another man and how since he is gay the straight man should be concerned. Not a fan.

i read this book as part of an arc program. This is the story of Dustin and Marian. Dustin is a rich playboy who invented a device while still in college and made billions and never worked again. Dustin spends his time traveling and seeing different women, he never sees the same woman twice. When Dustin goes into the hospital to have his appendix removed, he meets Marian, a resident doctor. Dustin is on drugs before his surgery and begins to flirt with Marian. He asks her to marry him and pretend to have a tantrum until she agrees. There happened to be a man walking by who worked at the clerks office who was able to marry people in the hospital and overheard. When Marian's interns came and and distracted her, she had to leave. When Dustin met his sister-in-law a few weeks later, she asked him about his marriage. Dustin had no idea what she was talking about. It seemed Dustin andMarian were married before he had his surgery and he had to find her to get a divorce. When Dustin's brother took a heart attack, he was drugged and accused Dustn of having no direction in life and quitting everything, Dustin thought about it and decided he wanted to stay married to Marian. Now he had to find her and tell her they were married and convince she to give their relationship a shot. Marian was furious when she learned she was married to Dustin and she wanted a divorce, but he wanted her to give it a year, then he would grant her the divorce. I really enjoyed this story. I laughed and at times i wanted to cry. I thought Dustin needed to grow up and allow someone to get close to him. I think Dustin was scared of being rejected, so he left first. Marian was also alone, except for her step-father and i think she wanted to make her career on her own. She was hurt in the past and was a little jaded about men. Marian thought Dustin was too carefree and he needed to grow up. Good one.

This story is about Dustin and Marian, who end up married without even knowing it. The story has its funny moments – Dustin is your typical playboy born with money and all. He goes to MIT and develops something that gives him more money. He doesn’t do commitments and is just for the one-night stands. Well the story starts out with Marian who was just accepted to medical school and is celebrating, when she comes across Dustin, although they don’t know this because who exchanges name in a moment of drunkenness and lust…. Years pass by and they meet again only this time she is a resident who wants to become an obstetrician/surgeon and he is a patient who is drugged up ready for surgery. Somehow, they end up married by her yelling it out while giving instructions to her medical students.

Of course, there is a villain to this story an ex-boyfriend who almost kills Marian, but Dustin doesn’t give up even when she tried to break things off with him. This has everything humor, sadness, excitement, and forgiveness. Shane has a brother who is too busy with work to even consider love, I hope Ashlee gives him his own book for some interesting read.

Dustin Montgomery has the perfect life. Self made millionaire, party boy. One night stands and plenty of booze to keep him happy. That is until life throws him a curve ball in the form of appendicitis. When Dustin wakes up from surgery he finds a surprise he never wanted or expected. Married!!!

Marian has worked hard all her life to get where she is. She is a surgical resident, trying to decide her path. But it is not easy in the cut throat hospital she works. But she works hard and pushes onward. But life has a way of throwing a monkey wrench in her plans. A monkey wrench in the form or marriage. Unexpected and not welcome.

Dustin and Marian's adventures begin, but it won't be an easy road for these two. There are many bumps along the road and many obstacles to overcome.

Overall this book is a fun adventure full of laughs and a tad bit of danger. You will be surprised at the adventure you will take with Dustin and Marian. I love the story line that was laid out in this book. It is not like your typical "oops we got married" kind of romance. It has love, fun, but most of all it has danger. Danger that gives this book an amazing twist. Almost like a Grey's Anatomy episode. You are guaranteed to fall in love with this book and its quirky fun characters.

Marian is a resident at the local hospital and has an encounter with a patient, Dustin, that is waiting to have an appendectomy. High on morphine Dustin doesn't even realize the things he is rambling about and Marian finds it all a bit humorous and tries to go along with him, just to appease him. Some time later, Dustin is back home and gets some important news from his sister-in-law. He can't believe what he is hearing and he has no memory of the incident he has just learned about. Dustin knows he has to get to the bottom of this so now he is on the hunt to find Marian and hopes that she can shed some light on what happened. When Marian finds out everything that is going on, she can't believe her luck. Now she expects Dustin to take care of the situation but finds that he isn't in any rush and he has a proposition for her. Is it one Marian will agree with?

This was a really good read. The story is well written and the characters are very entertaining.

Simply put, this was better than many of the other “surprise marriage” novels I have read. It just seemed to have more depth, from the characters to the plot. I liked how even though Marian seemed secure in her position as a doctor, she still showed a lot of insecurity and vulnerability. I also appreciated that Dustin wasn’t only an obnoxious millionaire. I mean, he was, but there was also more to him than that. I appreciated the slow burn of the romance. The only thing that really didn’t work for me was the ex-boyfriend subplot. It seemed contrived. But it didn’t detract from the story overall, and I still give it a solid 4 stars. I would recommend this book for a fun, relatively light read, especially if you like exasperated heroines and charming yet irresponsible heroes. This review was written based on a complimentary pre-release copy.

I really enjoyed A Beautiful Mistake by Ashlee Price. Dustin is a playboy with no plans to settle down or slow down his adventurous lifestyle. Why should he? He has it all-money, good looks and plenty of ladies wanting a night with him. But after a routine surgery, his life is turned upside down. He got married in the hospital! Marian is a doctor who is smart, beautiful and totally focused on her career.
They had actually met a few years prior at a bar and had an amazing encounter in the parking lot only for Dustin to brush it off. Dustin and Marian had explosive chemistry and you couldn't help but root for them, even if Dustin could be a real jerk at times. Add in a stalker ex boyfriend and you have a book you won't be able to put down. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Fun read. A little crazy, but it's why we read fiction.
Well edited.

Years before our main story, Dustin has a one night stand with a pre-med student. Years later, we realize it is the h, Dr. Carver. Dustin is in the hospital and just prior to surgery proposes to Marian. She humors him as he is hopped up on pain meds. Neither of them realizes the marriage is about to be made real. A bit later, Dustin's sister-in-law informs him that he's married. He makes a move to have it annulled, but winds up deciding to take a chance on marriage to Marian. They stay together, learning to share space and be friends. Marian has a crazy ex, bent on getting her back. It takes a major event to get these two to wake up and appreciate what's right in front of them.

Nice afternoon read. Both characters have some development - leaving baggage behind to take a chance on a great future. Enjoy.

This wonderful story is told from two point of views. I don't want to go into detail since I don't want to affect your experience of the book but I loved this book. Although Dustin was a jerk at the beginning of the book, he redeemed himself by the end. Marian was always someone special. There were ups and downs in the book, a stalker ex-boyfriend and an event to make you stand up and recognize what is really important in your life. Although the marriage was a mistake, the following relationship was not. I loved the dogs and the sex was steamy. Dustin and Marian's HEA was well deserved. Great job, Ms. Price!!!

Wow! This author just gets better with each book she writes. This book is a fantastic and fun romantic romp! The characters are all lovingly created - I particularly like that Marian is a smart, successful doctor - who tends to get too attached too fast. Dustin is a sexy, rich, confident playboy - who shies away from commitments of any kind. Years before, they crossed paths in a brief almost forgettable encounter, before going on with their separate lives. Seven years later, fate again throws them together and the wild roller coaster ride begins. This story is full of drama, suspense, humour and lots of steamy romance. Add in two awesome dogs - and this story has it all! A truly wonderful and entertaining read!

Dustin was a romantic lead who for the first few chapters I was prepared to hate. I saw him as a spoiled, lost and selfish man pretending to be a playboy. I was not much impressed with Marian either, because I thought she was setting herself up for failure. As the story continued the author slowly allows the characters to worm their way into my heart. Marian needs Dustin to take her out of her comfort zone to become fully realized and he needs her to achieve his full potential. As the story unwinds they grow in leaps and bounds and what starts as a mistake becomes the defining moment for the rest of their lives. A well crafted story.

A book that had me smiling at some things a well written story that I enjoyed reading. Dustin and Marian's story is about two people who end up seeing each other after they last saw each other seven years ago. Dustin is due for surgery and Marian is a doctor who comes to talk to him. Dustin says he wants to marry her. There is a man there that says he can do so, with everything going on in the hospital they do end up married without either one of them realizing it. When they come to realize what has happened that is when things really start to happen. This book has suspense, drama, danger, a jealous man, explosions in a hospital, two precious dogs, and romance.I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Wow what a story about Dustin and Marian. Dustin is a bit of an arrogant man he gets any woman that he wants and one night in a bar a redhead took his fancy, he saw that she was leaving and he followed her out to her car he took her virginity that night then walked off. Marian was in a bar to celebrate her acceptance into medical school she ended up leaving and then this guy follows her out to her car, they ended up having sex in the back seat of the car he took her virginity that night then promptly walked away. It wasn’t until 6 years later that they see each other again but I’m not going to tell you what happens next you will have to get this book to find out for yourself. Fantastic story and I highly recommend this book it’s definitely well worth the read.

Yummy

I devoured this wonderfully written story by Ashlee Price about Marian and Dustin who have a one night together when she is about to start med school and he’s in grad school for mechanical engineering. Fast forward six years later and she sees him in the hospital where she is working. He’s drugged and ready for an appendectomy. Things get crazy when he asks her to marry him while she is distracted. What happens next, while a bit unbelievable, just makes crazy sound a little calm, but forms the basis for this mesmerizing romance. The main characters were lovable after Dustin does some growing up. I couldn’t put this book down and look forward to reading more by Ashlee Price. The epilogue was quite fulfilling and left me with a smile.

It was a great book to read. I thought it was going to boring. But wasn’t at all. Dustin and Marian turned out to be a great couple to read about. Candice was something else. Kinda pushy Candice was with Dustin l thought. But heart was in the right place.

I couldn’t understand why Dustin’s family was so concerned about what Dustin was doing with life. Sidney worked so hard that worked himself into heart problem.

Liam was a nut. I never found out why he blow up the hospital. Marian was a wonderful Doctor. I loved her Stepfather Hal. He was wonderful in how he stood up for Marian when the whole hospital treated Marian like scrap.

I’m glad that both Dustin and Marian finally found happiness with one another.

I was up late last night looking for a new read and came across Beautiful mistake by Ashlee Price . From the moment I started reading I knew I was not going to be getting much sleep . Marian and Dustin had off the charts chemistry with one another from the moment they meet in Vegas ( which may have started with a drunken Marriage but turns into so much more. This was such a wonderful love story about , trust , love, commitment and so much more . There are so many fun moments as well , one minute I was laughing, then the next my heart was breaking . There are many twists and turns as well . I cannot wait to read the rest of Ashlee’s books , I have definitely found myself a new favorite author
