Emma thought her biggest challenges this spring would be juggling plans for her best friend's baby shower while making arrangements for her own upcoming wedding.
But that was before Grandma Hooper's nighttime singing took a dangerous turn and trouble began brewing with nasty neighbors.
When an old barn owl becomes a silent witness to the murder of a farmhand on the Hooper's property, it's up to Emma to get justice for the victim's persistent ghost. Can Emma clear her grandma of a terrible crime? Or will the case closest to Emma's heart be the one she's doomed never to solve?
Blythe Baker is a thirty-something bottle redhead from the South Central part of the country. When she’s not slinging words and creating new worlds and characters, she’s acting as chauffeur to her children and head groomer to her household of beloved pets.
Blythe enjoys long walks with her dog on sweaty days, grubbing in her flower garden, cooking, and ruthlessly de-cluttering her overcrowded home. She also likes binge-watching mystery shows on TV and burying herself in books about murder.
A good read. Not the best in the series but not quite sure why. It had a good plot, plenty of good dialogue and all our favourites but it seemed somewhat subdued and maybe a touch lacklustre. Her Gran's sleepwalking is getting more frequent and when the newly hired farm hand is killed his wife lamest her Gran for the death citing the sleepwalking. Billy is also reluctant to firm down a date for the wedding making her doubt him. Plus Suzy is close to her due date. Will Billy set a date? Will Suzy give birth soon? Will she unravel who is the killer? Is it possibly because of the old feud between the farm hand and another resident?
Emma's grandpa has hired a farmhand and has allowed him and his wife to park their trailer on his property. One morning while Emma and her grandma and grandpa are enjoying their breakfast they hear screaming. It's coming from the barn. It's Evelyn. She has found Daniel dead in the barn. She accuses grandma of killing him. Emma knows she must prove her grandma's innocence and find out who the killer really is. Emma is hosting a baby shower for her best friend Suzy. While opening presents Suzy goes into labor and Emma gets her to the hospital. Then she decides she wants to check out a couple of things and almost gets herself killed. How is Emma saved? How does she find out who the killer is? How does she prove it? Will she and Billy ever set their wedding date? Will grandma ever agree to see a doctor for her funny turns? Come along with Emma on this ride! Well constructed plot and well written. I voluntarily received a copy of this book and I'm voluntarily posting a review. My opinion is entirely my own.
Emma has always been involving herself into the town’s mysteries but this time, it’s personal when her grandma is accused of murder. Between her job, her best friend having a baby, house chores and picking a wedding date, Emma is one busy lady. The mystery was entertaining as always and the ending was sweet.
Farm helper Daniel, who lived on Grandpa's land in a trailer with his wife, is found murdered in Grandpa's barn, and the man's wife claims Grandma is the killer. Emma sees the man's ghost and knows she has to clear Grandma's name. Will Emma be successful? Is Grandma ill? How about her wedding date with Billy? When will Suzy's baby be born? Another quick read.
Baker Bread #7 Ozark Ghost Hunter #7 Apparently this is the penultimate book in the series, and again a decent yarn, and again the non-Ghost things are more interesting than the brief Ghostly stuff. The characters are what makes this series go well. Again with the our hero almost dies at the hands of the villain, which has worn thing. But apart from the failings it is a fun yarn.
Emma’s grandpa hired a farmhand and the farmhand ends up dead. The farmhands wife accuses Emma’s grandma of killing him. And on top off all that Suzy is ready to have the baby.
Well another enjoyable cozy mystery that Emma has to solve and this case its close to home. Her bestfriend Suzy goes into labor at her baby shower. Definitely a great read.
