This book is beautiful!! I never knew How Deep was a song and such a beautiful song it is. I don't know what to say about this book, other than I am quite speechless. I am NEVER speechless. I LOVE Mark's books. Especially the back stories to his books. Beautiful writing, be a author and beautiful songs.

No doubt, the book was created for Christian families - children unfamiliar with the gospel won't understand "the disconnection" of words and visuals, and even the symbols at the end of the book won't be of help.
The hymn was written in 1995 by Stuart Townend and became an instant classic in churches around the world but its usage in a book may - or may not - trigger some copyright issues.
HOW DEEP is a metaphoric publication with symbolism that can raise plenty of questions.

What is the sin of the younger son?
What is the way for a young reader to understand that the older brother is 'us'?
How the rope disappeared in the water and suddenly appeared in the boat?
Why is the younger son (Jesus Christ) giving his treasure chest to his older brother (us)?
Is it sinful to throw an anchor in the water?
How did the younger brother claim that He was Christ?
To whom is 'God' praying when He is omnipotent?
And many more.
By the way, the illustrations are adorable. I love how the sky changed its colour accordingly...

Life lessons for kids

I read this book on kindle courtesy of the author. I love this author and his style for teaching within a story. I believe children learn more this way. It is easy to read and be understood or explained to children. It’s a great tool for parents and caregivers. Love the authors creativity.

Cute kids book

Mostly it was a cute kids book. I personally could not read it without it being a song in my head. In one way I really liked it, but in another way it was too much “allegory” for me. I think most families would really enjoy it and I urge you to try it for yourselves!

This is a great book to explain the great gift Jesus gave us through His death and resurrection. Even though the words can be a bit difficult for young children, the pictures are encouragingly enough to want to see what happens in the end.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and I am voluntarily leaving a review.

As I understand, the story is based on a song and what you have in the book are the lyrics of the song that contain a story about Jesus and His sacrifice for mankind. The illustration portray a father saving his sun. The story has a happy ending.
This book will work best for parents who know the song and can teach their children to sing along while looking at the illustrations.

Interesting book however not only should you be familiar with the story of Jesus Christ but also with the music to the song which the words in the book are sung. Since I don't know the song I felt like I was missing something. I received a free copy of the book from the author.

Good illustrations that tell a moving story on their own. The text is a spiritual song/poem. There may be some disconnect for children trying to understand the correlation between the words and the visual story. Will require lots of explanation from parents.

This is a touching story about how a father's love can save his son as God sacrificed His Son to save us. This is a great reminder to readers to appreciate our parents' sacrifices and that we should have faith in God. Excellent story and beautiful illustrations.

This is a beautifully illustrated book with a message based on the scriptures. It allows parents and children to discus the meaning of the words and how Christ has suffered for us to bring us the most precious of all gifts. Reading this book with your child will lead to blessings in your home.

I found this book very interesting. The words are lyrics of a hymn designed to teach children about religion, but the main story is within the pictures so it's like getting two books in one. 😀

The illustrations are very colourful and the book is about a father and two sons on a boat trip when danger strikes. The characters all represent people from the bible, and I found it a different and intriguing way to teach small children about the bible.

I think it would be a highly effective teaching method and for the right audience this is a very good book.
