Is the Moon alive? Are Reptilians secretly living among us? Could aliens be angels? Can love change the past? The answers to these question – and many more! – await in 14 X 7: Fourteen Stories in 7,000 words - SciFi Flash Fiction. Here’s proof that good things come in small packages!
Jack Preston King is the author of In Defense of Magical Thinking: Essays in Defiance of Conformity to Reason and other books for rebels against the spiritual, creative, and cultural status quo. He writes unruly poems, short stories, and novels, too.
14 X 7 is a well crafted compilation of science fiction stories containing Twilight Zone like plot twists. The Author’s ability to make you care about a character in as little as a single page left me feeling punched in the gut at the end of many of them. Some of these stories were quite dark, which is what made them so good. I’m not embarrassed to say the story, “Angels”, left me a bit emotional.
I’ve never read a non-poem compilation of short works before. This experience has me searching for more books like 14 X 7. Not only was this book an entertaining read, it’s great for quick reads in the parking lot or driveway.
Although the title says SciFi, there are also some supernatural, horror, and political stories in this collection. The stories are all short. Each only takes a few minutes or less to read. As expected with any varied collection, I enjoyed some stories more than others. But all of them are imaginative and entertaining. Which is what I want from fiction.
