Jack LaGuardia is a serious swimmer, a serious student, a serious person. He eats, swims, studies, repeats. He has no time for frivolous things like dating, drinking, or parties. He certainly doesn't have time for supermodel turned movie starlets like Kelsey Carlisle, who is basically a Victoria's Secret underwear model party girl. Just because she thinks she's now an actress doesn't mean the world is going to think so, or take her seriously as one. They meet one hot summer in sunny Los Angeles, two people who can't stand each other at first, and sparks fly, both the good kind and the bad, as they try to make a situation work for both of them, because he needs her money, and she needs his skill. She's hired Jack to teach her to swim for a part in a movie so she'll look more "legit," but he's for sure going to need more than four months to make Kelsey Carlisle look like an Olympic swimmer, right? And he's definitely not going to fall for her, just because she's beautiful and sexy and used to walk on a runway in lingerie, right? And there's no way she'd fall for such a goody-two-shoes, stick in the mud, just because he's got a totally hot bod to die for, would she? This is a love story between the most unlikely couple you're ever going to meet. They hate each other the first time they meet, because she thinks he's stodgy and square and boring, and he thinks she's flighty and silly and maybe a little trashy. And, it takes a little time, but she starts to see that maybe he's just dependable, and kind, and mature, and that those things can be nice, especially when things go terribly wrong in her life and she needs a grown up to depend on. And he starts to see that she's serendipitous and mercurial funny and fun, maybe she just needs someone to hold onto when things get rough for her, and that he can be that person for her. This is a classic story of opposites attracting, of two halves making a whole, of two completely different people completing each other.
I was born in Japan, raised in central California, and am now lucky enough to live in New York City. I've wanted to write for so long, and decided to celebrate my birthday by finally doing it! Anyone, everyone who wants to, DO IT. Write what you love, what makes you happy, otherwise what's the point? There's nothing like getting a tearful text from an advance copy beta reader asking, "Why?? Why did you do that to her?!" Being a substitute teacher for fifteen years gave me some good ideas for what today's younger readers would enjoy, and I hope you do :o)

Reads smoothly, the lesser score is because I really can't relate to h's actions, how naive H is portrayed and how the part about the phase after a rape is worked out. I will try other books by this author, but hopefully with a more mature narrative.

In a world where bad boys who don't give a dang and girls who are naïve and inexperienced dominate, Glide's role reversal in serious Jack and superficial Kelsey is refreshing (and not just because this book is about swimming.)
Jack is one of my favourite male protagonists. He's got direction, morals, and a good head on top of an even better body. Kelsey, on the other hand, leaves a bad first impression, but as Jack grows to love her, I do as well.
This is a story about colliding worlds - stardom and studenthood - and the two characters teach the other a thing or two about each. I loved watching Jack experience many of his firsts; proof that nice guys don't finish last.
I recommend this story as a new adult romance that is unconventional and sexy!
