Knowledge of his life and art is uneven: his biography is obscure and the range of his activities both well-documented and frustratingly vague. Although he published several articles, I have not been able to trace any personal documents or likenesses. Some details can be recovered, however, and it is possible to reconstruct the outlines of his life and work."
