Perine Beaumont, a succubus, owns and runs the hottest nightclub in Paris for human and non-human clients. The common thread in several recent murders perhaps tying them together is that the victims have Succ Club memberships. Detective Mathys Savatier is sent to investigate and hopefully won’t forget why he’s there.
This evening, Perine heard one of her wait staff, Anne, trying to tell a customer that she was not one of the professionals and only waited tables. He wouldn’t accept that -- until Perine walked over and pulled his hand away from Anne’s thigh. She was curious how he had slipped through their screening for slimeballs. She gave him 5 minutes to finish the drink and leave. Fortunately, he didn’t challenge her on that and he left.
Perine spotted a handsome man sitting along and nursing a cognac. She saw erotic darkness in this one, but he wasn’t ready quite yet, but the intensity of his dark eyes sent shivers down her spine. She studied him, then pulled out a small card which would give him access to the private rooms to explore what might interest him. He was to ask for her – she wanted to take care of him personally. He knew who he was, and he knew he’d be back!
At 3:19 a.m., Detective Savatier was awakened by a phone call. Another body was found. It looked like it was the same as the others, and was within the parameters they had marked off. He hurried out to meet his partner, Idrisse, who had called him. The victim had been drugged, judging by the lack of anything that would indicate a fight; then he was shot at point blank range in the head with a. 22 revolver. When they turned the body over, Savatier realized they wouldn’t have to waste lots of time investigating where the guy had been last. He had spent a good portion of his evening two tables away from Savatier’s!
This was a very suspenseful book with a murder mystery to solve. The story line kept moving along at a good pace while the suspense increased as more information was discovered. With the fast-moving twists and turns that keep the reader’s head spinning, can Savatier solve the mystery before someone else ends up dead?
Well-written book, but not one I would enjoy reading again due to the kink content. Not the kind of book I enjoy.
