Just a quiet, peaceful summer cataloging magical creatures on New Firefly Island. Easy, right?
Raine Campbell and friends arrive to team up with another school to tackle the Magical Multitudes Project, ready for a little fun during the school break.
But the island is full of secrets and creatures not normally found on Earth.
And the island doesn’t stay quiet for long. Earthquakes plague the area and Raine even thinks she sees other people on the island – people who aren’t supposed to be there.
When the students find a dead creature on the island, they finally know for certain – trouble is on the island.
Can they find out who’s responsible and stop them before more animals are harmed? Are they in danger?
Join Raine, her friends and teachers on a Summer Adventure and learn the secrets of New Firefly Island!
Judith Berens is a figment of your imagination, made up of the fevered brainpower of Michael Anderle and Martha Carr, fueled by a lot of people helping them out - as well as all of you, The Fans. Great stories mixed with a lot of great readers equals more adventures to follow.
Whether it was because it was set in a different place, far away from the School of Necessary Magic, for a change, or because of the selected characters, I don't know, but it all fell into place beautifully.
With the added characters joining the 'FBI Trouble Squad' - especially as they, too had such compatible characters - on the mysterious, and Magical, island that they had all gone to, to investigate, everything all came together really well, and turned into an adventure that I thoroughly enjoyed!
I had one little 'oh no' moment, when the gang and their new friends decided to make up a new game but, thankfully, the plot moving on to more important matters, stopped that, so I didn't have to read reams of uninteresting - to me - sport-style passages.
Instead, the book was filled with new plants, animals, and sea creatures, that were intriguing to read about - plus one great reminder of an author that I'd read in my youth, and whose books I've now started to repurchase once more! Lol
This is, in fact, The Kraken Wakes by John Wyndham!
I absolutely loved this book, plus all of John Wyndham's other books and short stories, so I really look forward to reading them all again, some 45-odd years later! Lol
Anyhoo, now that I've finished reading this rather enjoyable Raine Campbell book, it's now on to book eight I go, which is: 'Probationary Agent'. With this being Raine and her friends' final year of High School, I'm sure they'll be having even more adventures!
So, once I've read this next book, I'll catch you on the flip side, to let you know what I thought about the book - I hope it's as good as this last book was!
A great urban fantasy action adventure series. Kind of like Hogwarts. A magical school on the East Coast. Each Siri starts out with a freshman class and goes all the way through to the senior class. This is the second set at the school of necessary magic. Rain camel a future FBI agent and her friends better known as the FBI trouble squad. Learn how to use their magic and stumble upon trouble every year. Follow along as they solve problems while trying to stay out of more trouble. This is one series written by one of many authors in a magical world that has multiple series with occasional crossover events with different characters from the different series and books. Extraordinarily entertaining with a fantastic cast of characters and storylines. Check it out
A summer adventure in a school-centered novel series, interesting. An island that holds many exotic and rare species of magical animal, exciting. Magic and mystery of the island plus possible troubles for the FBI Trouble Squad, wonderfully absorbing.
This novel is more about the character growth once again and it shows. It is great to see a character gain more perspective than just a simple single-minded focus on the future and solving trouble. Raine grows more well-rounded in this one than the previous books.
Overall, I recommend giving this one a read for a couple of reasons. One: it is decently written and quite enjoyable. Two: you’re this far in the series already, wouldn’t it be a shame not to see it to the end?
It’s fun reading about summer vacation, and having a different scene for the students. I’ve greatly enjoyed reading about their last summer before senior year, and also meeting new students from another school. There are clues, but we have to wait for the mystery to unfold, and who, would have seen *that* coming?!?!?
The series has been amazing and I’m looking forward to seeing what they get up to in their final school year.
PS: Martha, if you ever make it Down Under you can go glamping at Werribee Zoo in Victoria 😉
I wish my summer camp was like this one. Although, I loved swimming and horseback riding. So much fun discovering new plants and animals. Seems like the professors spent way too much time in the cabins. Lol I really expected the kids to have a whole lot more adventures on the island while the professors slept. Senior year should be fun unless you are skipping senior year based on the name of the next book I have to wonder. On to new adventures and worlds and characters.
The FBI Trouble Squad travel to a magical island with several of their professors for part of their summer. They meet up with another team from another magical school and begin to help record the flora and fauna. What they thought would be a fun summer on an island suddenly takes a turn. The students and teachers begin to try to solve many mysteries of the island and take time to have some fun too. It's an adventure to good to miss!
I didn’t get into this book as quickly as most of the others, it was a different style to the school type stories, the latter half was much better when there was some action. I quite liked the mazeball game though! Worth a read and it follows Raine and her school friends and introduces new characters from a different magical school.
Adventure and exploration of a beautful world how can I resist?
Zombie trees? Illusionary cats? Earth shaking adventure on a magical island with new friends and old? All fine and good but the games of the new sport of Mazeball was amazeballs g!
Raine is almost my favorite. Oriceran is such an amazing universe. Between Raine and the Brownstones and Leira I honestly can't choose a favorite character.
An outstanding story about the Trouble squad. Having an exciting adventure and discovering new things, mal my new friends and solving crimes. Wonderful adventure.
Enjoying all the Raine stories and this was a good one. Lots of mystery one the island and plenty of surprises as well. Great surprise ending. Looking forward to the next book.
Again , the FBI Trouble Squad got involved in trouble, as in trouble seeking them, not them looking for it. This with the support from another magical school, they protect the rare and the endangered!
Very good read, that kept me going for the whole ride, until the very end. I also think that's the first time I've ever seen the old fixers name screwed up, (Tucker Underwood).
Second half of Junior year is filled with fun and adventure. Then summer vacation is a school project. Our students make new friends and share adventures. Each book in this series gets better.
I have enjoyed living with Raine & friends.and I am hoping that their Phenomenal Lives continue on for many, many more years. Love this, PLEASE keep them coming.!.!
Another adventure for Raine and friends. I like this series, it leaves one with a feeling of calm and goodwill. MA and MC working their own brand of magic.
This series is really stretching out too, and that can be fine when you care about the main character, but here's the thing, I don't. She's a bit of a Mary Sue.
