3.5 stars, rounded up. This is the second book in the Ginormous Jo series and my grandson loved this story. Of course he thought it was hilarious that Joe was upset that his family picked up his poo. The story is about expressing your feelings. Joe is upset because another dog is staying with his family. He is not upset that there is another dog there, but upset that Mo is always pushing him out of the way. She always wants to be first on walks and to eat, and when Joe's family is petting him or giving him hugs, she pushes him out of the way. Even when Joe tries to nap, when he wakes up Mo is right beside him often staring at him. He can't wait until she goes home. When one of Joe's friends comments about his girlfriend, he responds that she is not his girlfriend and Mo is devastated. You see, while Joe thought she was annoying, she was just trying to get his attention and was too shy to tell him.
Once again this is a powerful message for everyone. It is important to share your thoughts and feelings with others as they can not read your mind and may misinterpret your actions. My grandson and I talked about this for a long time. It is really important for him to ask what people mean and to share what he is thinking as he has autism. He tends to get upset easily when he doesn't always understand body language and social cues. A story that will definitely be read over again. This is a good story for classroom libraries as well as family libraries. I received a copy from Rachel's Random Resources upon request. The ideas and opinions shared are my own.
5☆ Beautifully Illustrated, Heart Warming Educational, Important Lessons, Highly Recommend!
Ginormous Joe’s Welcoming Arms is a Heartwarming story about the importance of caring for a dog, how mindful we have to be when bringing new animals into the home when we already have one and making friends and embracing changes
Joe the dog is Rescued by the Tuttle Family. Their Daughter Mary and Joe became best of Friends and they do everything together.
That is until Mo the dog comes to stay. The Tuttle Family are looking after Mo for a little while and Joe really isn't impressed. Mo seems to be doing everything possible to annoy and upset Joe. She pushes him out and he feels sad he can no longer spend quality time with Mary.
But little does Joe know, there is a reason behind Mo's annoying behaviour! But I'm not going to spoil the reason you will just have to read it, to discover why 🙊
Ginormous Joe’s Annoying Friend is a beautifully Illustrated Children's Picture Book that educates children about caring for a dog and the responsibilities like picking up it's poo. It also teaches us to be mindful of other people's feelings and space.
The Characters are wonderfully thought out, Strong and perfectly relatable to children. I love the ulterior motive behind Mo's behaviour, it made me giggle and the ending was perfect!
I would recommend this book for children aged 3-8years
There are many things you can do as an extension with this book, ie, talking about how you can be kind to people, how to care for a pet, being kind to the environment, Talking about animal adoption. It opens up important communication skills through reading this beautiful story.
If you are looking for a Compelling, Educational and Heart warming Story of Friendship, Fitting In, Embracing Changes, Family, Love, Caring and being Kind. That is relatable, endearing characters, can be read as a bed time story or standalone, portrays valuable life lessons, then you will adore this Gorgeous Picture Book. One not to be missed!
This one I think is my favourite so far in the series!
It's so wonderful to see S C Cunningham branching out and writing Children's Books. Highly recommend all of her books and can't wait to see what lesson Ginormous Jo has next.
Thank you to Rachel Random Resources for this copy which I reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
This was a lovely story and really enjoyed reading it.
I love this series, it is really well written and I loved this one that gave an insight in to Joe’s thoughts too – it did make me look at my mum’s dog but honestly with her you have no idea what she is thinking 🙂
The images are quite different but work well with the story, it is definatley a book I would recommend. I loved the ending too – it is 4 stars from me for this one!!
Joe loves his family, even if they keep stealing his poo. Everything is going smoothly until Mrs. Tuttle’s sister has to leave her dog Mo with the Tuttle’s when she goes on vacation. Mo is loud, tries to be the center of attention, and just irritates Joe.
Joe is trying to be patient with her and he is counting down the days until Mo does home. One day Joe has about had enough of Mo when a neighbor dog embarrasses him. Joe realizes that he had hurt Mo’s feelings and gets a huge surprise.
This is a great story for children, especially if there is someone they seem to be losing patience with like a sibling or other relation. Plus what better way to talk about this than with a giant fluffy white dog.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. I voluntarily chose to read and post an honest review.
Ginormous Joe's Annoying Friend is book two in the Ginormous series. This one is about Joe and his family and how they decide to bring home a new friend for Joe. It's a little dog named Mo, but she happens to be really annoying to Joe. She's always staring at him. Always trying to take his food. Always doing things that frustrate him. But instead of talking to her, Joe ignores her for a while. Eventually, Joe and Mo have a heart-to-heart, and what Joe discovers about Mo makes him realize that he shouldn't have judged her so harshly before. I enjoyed the message of this book, which is basically Don't judge a book by its cover. It's a good lesson for kids to learn early on. Be kind. Be friendly. Talk to someone and get to know them instead of being mean or ignoring them. You just never know; they might just be shy and need a friend to make them feel better. I think parents and young readers will like reading Ginormous Joe's Annoying Friend. 4 stars from me.
