I am a massive fan of comparative mythology, and Paul Friedrich does not disappoint. He goes into depth about the Indo-European threads weaving through Aphrodite, along with the Near Eastern influences that comprise her identity. He takes a structuralist approach at some points about the myths and characteristics of Aphrodite. This is not an archaeological text or one particularly concerned with the worship of Aphrodite, but a philosophical and historical one.
