Psychic medium Epiphany Mayall lives and works in the spiritualist community of Watoolahatchee, Florida. When she schedules a trip to her childhood home in Ohio to visit her aging mother, Epiphany has no idea she will soon be swept into a maelstrom of natural disasters, theft, and murder.
Dr. John Bernhardt, Epiphany's former art history professor and mentor, believes regional fracking operations are responsible for the recent earthquakes. After identifying a secretive petroleum company as the perpetrator, he wonders if the environmental disasters are somehow connected with the disappearance of a drawing from a local museum. Twenty-four hours after he writes an article about his theory, he is found dead of an apparent heart attack.
When John's ghost appears to tell Epiphany he was murdered, she becomes determined to find his killer. Aided by a former FBI art-crimes investigator and an eccentric artist, Epiphany must use her psychic skills to locate the missing art and identify the killer. Unfortunately her efforts to bring the guilty parties to justice are thwarted. Even a state senator cannot help. As the earthquakes escalate, Epiphany must decide whether to continue her battle for justice or suspend her investigation to protect her family.
Set against a backdrop of psychic phenomena, corporate corruption, and global climate change, Epiphany's Gift illustrates the perennial battle between good and evil.

Mallory O’Connor is a writer, an art historian, and a musician. She is the author of two non-fiction books, Lost Cities of the Ancient Southeast and Florida’s American Heritage River, both published by the University Press of Florida. American River :Tributaries, Book One of the American River Trilogy, is her debut novel.
This is a truly unique novel that blends and bends genres while offering a twisty thriller plotline. An amalgamation of art history, climate science, parapsychology, conspiracies and murder, once you open EPIPHANY'S GIFT you’ll find it hard to close until the very last page.
Mallory M. O’Connor has woven together a fascinating story of mystery, murder, and psychic abilities in her book, Epiphany’s Gift. Epiphany Mayall is the psychic medium protagonist of the story who leaves Florida for her childhood home in Ohio under the premise of helping to solve the theft of a million-dollar painting at a favorite professor’s museum. A more sinister plot devolves shortly after Epiphany arrives. She must piece together vague clues, visions, and dreams to solve both the art theft mystery and the murder that happened subsequently. O’Connor takes the reader along for the ride through it all as Epiphany goes to hell and back to take on her hometown’s crimes. O’Connor has a beautiful writing style with no mistakes that I noticed. The descriptions of the Mayall home drew me in from the first few pages. Her descriptions of everything down to the floorboards of the old house were lovely. Later on, descriptions of Epiphany’s visions were so detailed and clear. O’Connor has a way of drawing the reader into the story. She makes you feel like you’re there taking in the fresh air in a rocking chair or sinking into a fiery tar pit. You go through both the highs and lows with Epiphany as you follow her through her life and mind. This well-developed character is someone that readers will find pieces of themselves in. Blake King was such an interesting character as well. Only a very creative mind could have dreamed up this guy. I won’t ruin him for anyone, but just you wait! I also enjoyed the dynamic between Epiphany and John. Years and distance didn’t break the bond forged between the two so many years ago. I loved The Old Man in the story along with the setting that came with him. It was so reminiscent of the rural area where I grew up and live. Hills and streams, rocks and trees and trails. Hound dogs bellowing in the distance. -And him. A wise old man always there to point you in the right direction. That’s home for me, and that was home for Epiphany. I liked the flashbacks to “Pip’s” childhood. I enjoyed following her down the winding trails that lead her to him. Her memories, like her visions, were explained so vividly. I don’t recall ever reading much about psychic ability in a fiction novel. O’Connor has a fascinating take on it and how it works. Sometimes there were crystal clear visions, and at other times there were gut feelings and tugs in different directions. I believe this is very much how psychic ability actually works. Both types of abilities combine to help lead Epiphany after she learned to harness her gifts. O’Connor dove into the controversial practice of fracking or hydraulic fracturing in this book. This method of retrieving oil from deep within the rocks is a modern-day problem. It is currently relevant, as it is currently in practice in many areas. The practice and the ripples it creates are both irresponsible and dangerous. The book does a good job of giving fossil fuel alternatives without the plot becoming overly preachy or political. O’Connor finds a good balance between educating readers, making social commentary, and keeping the entertainment factor high. I am giving Mallory M. O’Connor’s book, Epiphany’s Gift 5 out of 5 stars. She writes both beautifully and horrifyingly as her descriptors of both peaceful meadows and the pits of hell draw you in. Wonderful dreams and the scariest of nightmares are examined. She writes of a beautiful, picturesque town and the earthquakes and murder that shake it and its residents. I would love to read more of her work.
Epiphany’s Gift is a supernatural, magical realism book by Mallory M. O’Connor. It is about a woman named Epiphany, who has psychic abilities passed down to her from generations in her family. The book follows Epiphany, with her family, friends, and others she meets along her journey to solve a crime, which unravels into a deeper problem. What starts out as a favor, turns into a murder investigation along with revelations of greed. Epiphany, along with her accomplices, begins to find deep-seated corruption within the different levels of government, along with multiple layers of deception while discovering good versus evil.
I have to say that I absolutely love this book by O’Connor. It was intriguing from the get-go, capturing my attention from the first few pages. I was hooked and drawn into this world of psychic phenomenon set in the modern day world, tackling such a deep-rooted and relevant issue such as global warming. I am familiar with the area and the issue as well and found it to be relatable. The realism of all the natural disasters and how companies cover up the negative side effects were not only intriguing but terrifying to think about.
I also liked that O’Connor added in the allusions to Dante’s work throughout and how it so perfectly aligned with the issues at hand, along with the corruption and greed of these people within the book. Not only did it align perfectly, but it had me thinking about good versus evil and what that really meant. One of the characters spoke something truly profound, about the disassociation between what he loved and what he did, and how he decided to find what he loved in the destruction to lessen the burden of the differences. It was truly remarkable how realistic the portrayal of human thinking came into play here. Additionally, the characters were so real, like everyday people you would know on the street. The vernacular between the characters for the area was also so spot on, and I had to laugh.
I also loved the touch of supernatural in the book. The way it fits in piece by piece and how she could talk to dead people as well as have visions was so intriguing. The only complaint I have about this book is that there was not more exploration of this part of Epiphany. I found it to be fascinating, and if someone were to be psychic, it would be mistaken as a mental illness. I would have liked more exploration of that and maybe more talk about how she was able to hone her abilities as she hides from it the majority of her life. I know that more exploration of this maybe would have made the book more about Epiphany, instead of the fascinating corruption and murder, but it would have been nice to see a tad more into that aspect. I also liked how the book ended, wrapping up really well, especially the epilogue. I highly recommend this book.
Epiphany knew that she was not a typical child, even at a young age. She could feel things more vividly, talk to people who aren’t exactly alive, and she can foresee events before they would occur. She didn’t mind that she was unusual. The men in her life did. She was reprimanded whenever she talked about her intuitions, afraid that people might think that she was wrong in the head. Even after she married and had a family of her own, she spent the majority of her adult life denying the abilities she had.
Years later, when visiting her hometown, she was called on by an old friend to help with an art theft that the police couldn’t seem to solve. Only a couple of days after, she is faced with a series of mysterious events—an irregular number of earthquakes, visions depicting the imminent destruction of nature, and the sudden and suspicious death of her mentor. With the help of her visions and her friends (living and otherwise), will she finally have answers to all the questions, or will she open up doors that should have been kept shut?
Epiphany’s Gift is a riveting story that revolves around the main character and her clairvoyance gift. At the same time, it deals with the urgent topic of global warming and its negative consequences. The author, Mallory O’Connor, has masterfully woven the supernatural theme with environmental science and turned it into this brilliant story. The book is backed by a copious amount of research, and as a result both areas are seamlessly intertwined while feeling deep and intriguing.
The author’s ability to shift from Epiphany’s visions or dreams into what is perceived as her reality is worthy of mention since putting realism, and extrasensory perception into writing are two very different forms of expression. Also, O’Connor’s switches between timelines are almost flawless, which is an admirable feat on its own. All of these factors contributed to a more in-depth understanding of the main character’s insight, and because of this, the readers’ absorption of the story is reinforced.
Epiphany’s Gift is a thrilling novel filled with action and suspense. It has a commendable call to action for our environmental awareness backed by facts. This exhilarating novel will keep readers on edge with a supernatural mystery to solve while navigating corporate corruption and a killer on their trail.
Murder, theft, conspiracy, corruption, and natural disasters… this book has it all. Epiphany’s Gift, by author Mallory M. O’Connor, follows Epiphany Mayall as she strives to solve the murder of her old art history professor. While home visiting her mother, Epiphany’s power comes to use when Dr. Bernhardt is killed, and his ghost comes to her to tell her he has been murdered for writing a paper about a fracking company and their possible connection to the natural disasters that have been hitting. The book is exciting, action-packed, and truly a unique murder mystery. Following Epiphany was really fascinating as we get to see her interacting with her childhood home, the death and danger that is surrounding her, and her supernatural gift. She is a unique character with a lot of personality, perfect for this sort of crime thriller. I enjoyed seeing how layered of a person she is and watching her growth throughout the novel. The side characters, like the eccentric artist and former FBI art-crimes investigator who helps Epiphany are all fun, interesting, and add a lot to the story. I thought that the conversations in this book were particular well-written; natural and thought-provoking. The themes tackled in this book were really interesting and relevant. At first, I thought it was just going to be your average, fun, short, murder mystery setup that prepares you for a long series where the overarching plot is second to the mysteries, but this book had a lot of depth to it. The look at global warming was especially interesting, and I liked how it tied into the plot. The corruption, art history, natural disasters, and family issues all wove in well and created a lot of intrigue. The whole book is a thrilling whirlwind of secrets to be uncovered, family magic, danger, and a real threat to the world. I was fascinated and captivated from the very beginning. The book is a beautifully written story that brings to life characters that feel like real people and vivid places. I found this book to be a particularly fun read and would highly recommend it. I hope to see more from O’Connor and Epiphany in the future.
Epiphany’s Gift by Mallory O’Connor opens with an acknowledgement to a real life psychic with whom the author came in contact. That opening was so intriguing to me that I was ready to jump in and read! It let me know that although this is a novel that there are likely lots of borrowed truths and stories. As I read I did so with the belief in mind that the way Epiphany’s psychic visions appear are likely reflections of this person the author really knew. So cool! If this is the case, that would certainly be an intense life. Epiphany has embraced her gift and works as a psychic medium in Florida. When she heads back to her home state of Ohio, her visions start leading her to believe something sinister is at hand. This piece is so topical with the discussion surrounding the oil industry and the use of fracking and the dangers it presents. When Epiphany’s former professor publishes an article connecting this practice to earthquakes he dies mysteriously shortly thereafter and it appears a conspiracy may be brewing. Epiphany truly has a gift. These visions give her the ability to solve crimes, like the mysterious theft of a William Blake drawing or the death of John Bernhardt. Not only is Epiphany troubled by haunting and vivid visions but she is actually visited by the spirits of people who have died. This is extremely helpful when attempting to reveal foul play. It helps if the dead person can come on back and share their side of the story. Ha! This book was incredibly fun and interesting for me to read. It had just the right amount of darkness with heinous acts and terrifying visions of future disasters paired with lovable characters and interesting relationship dynamics. O’Connor delivers quick chapters that work rapidly to create storyline connections. I never got bored and moved through her writing smoothly. Sadly the themes of corruption, greed and the nasty and real impacts those have on our environment are all too relatable and real. It made this book feel so relevant and current. O’Connor delivers a great story and wonderful characters set to a backdrop of environmental changes that are all too real to anyone reading. Great work!
This is an engaging cli-fi mystery, the first in a series featuring Epiphany Mayall, a feisty psychic sleuth with courage, daring, and smarts reminiscent of Murder She Wrote’s Jessica Fletcher—but aided by remote viewing, visionary dreams, and a team of spiritual guides, including a wise old man and his two ethereal hound dogs. Ms. O’Connor spins a suspenseful yarn that details the dangers of fracking and ventures into the upper echelons of the petroleum industry along the way. Great fun set in the age of Climate Change.
Epiphany’s Gift introduces a refreshing and intellectually grounded take on the psychic detective genre. Mallory M. O’Connor blends paranormal investigation with environmental suspense and art-world intrigue, creating a mystery that feels both otherworldly and disturbingly plausible.
Epiphany Mayall is a compelling protagonist rooted in her spiritualist community yet firmly tethered to personal history and emotional responsibility. Her psychic abilities are treated not as a narrative shortcut, but as a burden that complicates her choices and deepens the moral tension of the story. When her mentor’s ghost appears to reveal that his death was murder, the novel pivots from quiet unease into a layered investigation that spans corporate corruption, stolen art, and environmental devastation.
The supporting cast enriches the narrative without overshadowing Epiphany’s journey. The inclusion of an art crimes investigator and an eccentric artist adds texture and authenticity, while the escalating earthquakes serve as both a literal and symbolic destabilization of the world Epiphany thought she understood.
What distinguishes Epiphany’s Gift is its thematic ambition. O’Connor skillfully weaves psychic phenomena with pressing real world issues fracking, climate change, and institutional power raising questions about justice, accountability, and the limits of individual action. The result is a mystery that resonates beyond its genre, offering both suspense and substance.

A Paranormal Eco-Thriller of Art, Spirits, and Corporate Shadows...
In Epiphany’s Gift, Mallory M. O’Connor weaves an exciting narrative where psychic medium Epiphany Mayall confronts chilling visions and a malevolent plot. Back in Ohio, she discovers a disturbing connection between art theft, murder, and earthquakes linked to fracking. The story throbs with tension, combining supernatural elements with serious environmental concerns. Epiphany’s ghostly interactions are intense and mesmerizing and drives a storyline that bends unexpectedly, capturing readers’ interest right from the beginning.
O’Connor is adept at combining significant themes with gripping thrills. Corporate greed conflicts with the delicacy of nature, but the narrative avoids falling into moralizing. Characters stand out, particularly Epiphany, strong and imperfect. It’s an unusual treasure: a supernatural suspense story with emotion and a keen ecological angle. Can't be missed.
I enjoyed Epiphany as a fictional character but not so much as a psychic. Her visions on demand spoil the credibility of the plot. Time is not well handled in this book, though place is much clearer.
