Many children face torture at home which often goes unreported as victims are afraid of financial insecurity and fear of getting shamed or rejected by society. The torture can be physical, emotional, financial, or a mix of them. The trauma leads the victims to become socially awkward, emotionally imbalanced and financially challenged. The perpetrator is usually the earning member of the family, who sees the victims as weak lambs within his/her domain of influence (home) and often tortures the victim to vent frustration for his/her failed professional/personal life, and then later on out of habit or just for fun. This is one such story of a boy named Rohit, who is tortured physically, emotionally, and financially since early childhood by his father, and how despite all odds he still manages to succeed in life. Although the protagonist of the book is an Indian, his pain and agony can be felt by many similar victims across the globe. The story starts when the boy, now a 31+ year old man, sees an “Appeal for Identification Ad” in a newspaper, and instantly recognizes the unclaimed dead body to be that of his father. Read on…
The book 'Tale of Many Not Told By Any' is written by Rudra Prasad De. The feelings of vulnerability and insecurity shape a child's personality make them emotionally imbalanced and hurt their childhood. It has been said that ' A home is a child's refuge of love and care. In this book, the boy's childhood is no less than a nightmare. Parents are said to be a shelter for their children but on the contrary, this story is about a father's ill-treatment towards his son named Rohit and how even after all the storms, the boy moves ahead in the direction of light and dances to the glory of success. It has been mentioned in the book how Rohit managed to get out those dark years of his life where he was tortured mentally, physically, emotionally and financially by his father and how he fought against all the odds, like a true warrior. In the book, it has also been stated that Rohit's father, Vikram was the sole earning member of the family and used to vent out his frustration relating to his professional/ personal life on his son by torturing him which later on became a habit or just an easy task to have fun. The victim often chooses to remain silent out of fear and shock and the writer has successfully executed those feelings of emptiness and agony.
The story begins when Rohit who is now a 31-year-old man noticed an ad in the newspaper that he was reading early in the morning, which was about the identification of a dead man and couldn't take his eyes away from the fact, as he recognised that it was his father's body. The past 31 years flashed in front of Rohit's eyes.
The writer has skillfully managed to keep the readers engaged since the very beginning by polishing the story with a dash of twist, in the first chapter itself. The story is about an Indian boy and his journey through all the struggles, pain and hardships but the concept of the book is relatable to such a great extent that it holds the power to connect with many people across the globe. This is a must-read book.
A journey from predestined event to unwavering chronic agony
Pain is a strong emotion that is inflicted by human nature and behaviour. It is just not a word but there is always a story behind it. The title “A Tale of many not told by any” conceals the sealed reality in many forms. The very idea of child abuse is dreadful and immoral to human conscience but it has always been a matter of discrete concern among society. The book in itself explains how a child lacking the care, attention, love and safety from his father results in a timid, scared, uncertain, shy and deficient personality lacking basic social skills. A social misfit lacks many opportunities to learn and understand the very basic social conventions and the emotional turmoil makes the child not develop in the way he is accustomed to.
Tale of agony Agony or Pain is a known emotion but not managed well. The story talks about a father’s pain due to the loss of his beloved wife. As an easy convention, the father decides to blame someone for the misery and his newborn infant becomes the easy target. The story travels to explore some unfortunate situations when readers start to question the very nature of abuse which started with a reason for the loss of a loved one but lacks its essence as the story progresses.
Narration and writing The satisfaction of emotional and physical abuse and enjoyment after mocking the subject (son) is unfathomable to a witted person but it does reflect on the cruel truth of certain misfortunate events in society. The story and narration are very much relatable to those who have suffered mistreatment of any kind in their life. The story takes hold of readers and it connects through the child going through verbal and physical abuse.
“Dogs like you should be thrown on the street.” “Beggars like you are never satisfied, you always want more.”
The abuse of any kind crashes soul to its core and it never leaves you alone.
