Mercy and Brody are getting married and she's been selected to be on the hot television show in Atlanta...This Dress is the Best....and the entire Old School Diner gang is going.
A world class designer supplies the dresses for her to select from while Dandy Dan, the host of This Dress is the Best, will be her helper. Miss Izzy runs the show while Petorina Verducci is the snooty designer.
When one of them is murdered, Mercy and Brody work together to discover this murder by design.
Constance Barker lives in the Midwest with her husband and two Akitas where she can look out from her screened porch onto a wooded area brimming with activity. Since she was a young girl she read mysteries, often given to her by her grandmother. She loved figuring out who the culprit was and sometimes she was right and other times startled at who the author picked as the assailant. Now she enjoys writing mysteries herself. When she isn't writing stories, she can be found in her favorite vacation spot, Las Vegas or shopping for bargains.
It is time to start planning Mercy and Brody's wedding, and her friends have done several things to get the ball rolling. They have started a crowd funding program with contributions from people all over the US who have followed the Old School Diner and the mysteries that Mercy and Brody have solved. All of the misfortune that has befallen the Old School Diner (such as murder and fire) has been reason enough for people to contribute to the funding program. They even applied to be on a television program called "This Dress is the Best." Mercy is overwhelmed when Ruby and friends tell her about the deals they have made, but she recovers and excitedly joins the fun. Before long the fun is ramped up to life long memories, designer dresses, and unbelievable excitement. The only problem is the dress designer is found murdered. Asked by the local police to help solve the crime, Mercy and Brody join forces and discover exactly what went wrong. Lighthearted fun among the friends from Paint Creek, Kentucky interspersed with Wedding dress selection, fashion show, and murder all add up to another fun segment of the Old School Diner Cozy Mysteries. Make sure you read this series in order for maximum understanding and enjoyment!
The Old School Diner series is a very enjoyable set of cosy mysteries, and which for me gets better with each book that is released. In this book Mercy is getting married, and she has been chosen to take part in a wedding makeover show, and she takes the rest of the team with her. Needless to say one of the stars of the show gets murdered, and the gang get involved in the investigation. The characters are developing nicely and their relationships are becoming clearer as the series progresses, and in this book they are definitely believable. A very enjoyable mystery, with some great humour, this is a very readable book. My only reservation is that it doesn't really work that well as a stand-alone and really needs to be read as part of the series. I received an advance copy of this book, but have voluntarily written this honest review.
This is a fun, completely unbelievable read from start to finish. Mercy and Brody have apparently become sleuths worthy of superstar status in the lead-up to their nuptials; fortunately, the dead body doesn't put much of a damper on things. The characters are likeable (Deloris dials back the surliness, and Mercy isn't as cocky about her crime-solving), the mystery and the clues are handled well, and the culprit is logical.
When the crew set up a page to help pay for Mercy and Brody's wedding a TV channel gets hold of the story and they rope in a famous designer to do her dress, after finding out that the host isn't who they thought he was and then the designer ends up dead can they find out who it was before the show goes out live .
I was sad to see this end. Since it seems like it's the last book in the series. Hopefully, Constance's muse may strike again and we can see another book down the road.
I loved this book. The cast of characters is great. Loved how they all got to walk/dance down the runway in their gorgeous dresses. And of coarse they solved it again.
