I read Unlawful Harvest, by P. D. Workman and greatly enjoyed it. It is a fast-paced medical thriller full of hope, despair, greed and evil. It is skillfully written with a tight plot and a great cast of characters. I received Unlawful Harvest free and chose to make a voluntary, unbiased review.

Outstanding collection of powerhouse talent…

There are NO SPOILERS in this review. So far, I have only read Unlawful Harvest by P. D. Workman and Shatter Proof by Judith Lucci in this box set so my review is only for those two stories. Given the caliber of literary talent contributing to this collection, I have no doubt that these stories will all be riveting medical thrillers enjoyed by anyone partial to this genre.

UNLAWFUL HARVEST by P.D. Workman and was captivating from the very beginning. The main character, Mackenzie Kirsch, will take you on an emotional rollercoaster of a journey as she must transform herself from a pampered trust-fund socialite into a self-aware, effectual medical sleuth to discover the truth about what happened to her beloved sister. While this story does deal with the unsavory subject of unsanctioned organ harvesting and transplanting whereby the wealthy are able to buy organs at the expense of the exploited poorer populations of the world, there is no graphic violence nor are there gruesome descriptions which some might find repellent. The absence of offensive language and explicit sex scenes may also be appreciated by many readers. I enjoyed the fast pace of the story which kept me flipping pages late into the night. It is one of those books you just don’t want to put down until you have read the very last word. If you enjoy suspense, intrigue, family drama, spell-binding imagery and great character development, you will absolutely enjoy reading this story.

SHATTER PROOF by Judith Lucci is another enthralling tale for which you should probably be prepared to stay up late as you will likely feel compelled to read all the way to its conclusion. This story is the first in an upcoming series that introduces the reader to a wonderful lead character named Dr. Sonia Amon. She is not some super-human warrior amazon, but she is an amazing blend of courageous, skilled, intelligent, vulnerable, driven, and compassionate. Dr. Amon is a recently retired Army physician who is affiliated with the Army War College and Walter Reed Hospital along with serving on committees for the WHO and NATO to help rebuild the infrastructure of medical care in the Middle East. Did I mention she also runs covert ops for the CIA? Having been raised in Syria by her Syrian father (a high-ranking member of ISIS), she has the appearance and language skills that, combined with her scientific and medical background, make her an extremely valuable asset for chemical and biological weapons threat assessment. If that hasn’t piqued your interest yet, I don’t know what will. This story has so much to offer in the way of insights to the lives of our military personnel stationed in war-torn, terrorist-infested areas, the hardships of life in the Middle East, the overwhelming need for basic medical care, the imminent threat of outbreaks of infectious diseases, the constant threat of attack in the form of anything from simple gunfire and grenades to dirty bombs to chemical and/or biological weapons. Dr. Amon takes the reader on an action-packed adventure to her hometown in Syria where she is trying to establish desperately needed medical clinics and gather intel for the government concerning imminent threats from ISIS all while enjoying an all-too-brief visit with her fiancée (an American military officer) and evade capture by her loathsome terrorist-affiliated father. What a ride!

I received an ARC (advanced reader copy) of Unlawful Harvest and Shatter Proof for which the above is my honest and unbiased review.

Others might just love this type of book, but I didn't because it made me so angry. I guess I get too "into" the book and whatever makes the protagonist angry also makes me feel that way.
As the story progressed, it got better, though. It is really a warning about letting technology get too advanced, and the problems that can cause.

This is once collection of books that should not be missed, once it’s released. One story that stood out for me, was the one by PD Workman, Unlawful Harvest. It’s about Kenzie who tries to find out the cause of her sister’s illness. Don’t miss out.

I read Unlawful Harvest by P.D. Workman, and am leaving this review for it. This is an excellent book. I love the characters and the very interesting story line. I will definitely read the next book in this series. If this book is any indication of what the rest of the books in this set are like, I can't wait to get to read the rest of them.

So so. Some stories better than others.
Some I just couldn’t get into, some were really good a few sucked. My advice, by the time you are 10% into any story, if it hasn’t caught you...skip to the next one, as none of these books get better by that point.

#8 Justice for All by Chris Patchell sets up the baseline for her Holt Foundation series - we join Elizabeth Holt in the 1970s as she works her way through law school and into her career as assistant District Attorney in a county in the Northwestern US. Engaged to a wealthy lawyer, Elizabeth is busy with her life seeking justice for strangers and preparing for her marriage in 216 days when she is kidnapped, terrorized and raped, stabbed multiple times and beaten into a coma from which she awakened with a whole new outline for her life. A life that now couldn't include children. But did include a forward-thinking doctor who respected DNA technology even in it's infancy. And for thirteen years she sought justice for others, but she also needed justice for herself. She and her friend, Detective Maxwell Singer. On December 22, 1987 Max had a hit on the DNA in a new rape case in Spokane that tied the perpetrator to Elizabeth's case. Max knew he hadn't quit - they don't - he had just moved. But even now that he was found, Elizabeth couldn't get her old life back. All she could hope for was to be able to find justice for others. That was the story behind the birth of the Holt Foundation. A very fine story it is.
I read this story, #8, from the 17 volume medical terror novels published undo the title Do No Harm which I purchased from author Ed Dasso.

The Gamma Sequence

Gripping storyline and intensely captivating. I just had to keep reading to find out what happens next. Excitement, mystery intrigue, drama and everything else that pulls at your heartstrings made this a great read. I want to read a sequel to this story.

Well, I finally finished this set of 17 novels described as "medical thrillers." It's a mixed bag, for sure, and deserves a solid 3 stars overall. Three stars is a pretty vanilla rating, though, so here are individual ratings:
1. Death Hub by Edwin Dasso. Irrelevant prologue. Too many references to author's other books. Superfluous characters. Out-of-control surgical robots definitely a plus, however. 2 stars.
2. Shatterproof by Judith Lucci. Silly and poorly written. Point of view shifts from first to third person for no reason. 1 star.
3. Overdose by Uvi Poznansky. Interesting narrative voice and oddly playful tone. Ending a bit too neat and tidy. 3 stars.
4. Two Hearts Unspoken Targets by Tamara Ferguson. Okay romance with a lame "thriller" grafted on. Not medical. And way too much murmuring! 2 stars.
5. Fatal Limit by Inge-Lise Goss. Pretty good mystery with a PI and cop couple and a hospital setting. 4 stars.
6. The Gamma Sequence by Dan Alatorre. Great thriller with lots of tension built on an appalling premise. Good read. 5 stars.
7. Unlawful Harvest by P.D. Workman. Not bad but bogged down by too slow a buildup. 3 stars.
8. Justice for All by Chris Patchell. More a crime drama about a woman lawyer than a medical thriller. 3 stars.
9. Savage Art by Danielle Girard. Pretty good serial killer thriller. Not much medical stuff, but a real page-turner. 5 stars.
10. Only Wrong Once by Jennifer Ruff. FBI and CDC trying to prevent a pandemic caused by a genetically engineered virus. Pretty good. 5 stars.
11. The Healer by Christoph Fischer. Plot okay, but execution terrible--clunky prose and endless repetition. Lots of small errors and misused words. 2 stars.
12. The Outcome by Barbara Ebel. Incredibly detailed account of a liver transplant, and how the donor's and recipient's families connect. Pacing uneven. 4 stars.
13. If a Tree Falls by Robert I. Katz. Well-written and interesting. Serial killer in a small W. Virginia town with a troubled hospital. Great narrative voice. 5 stars.
14. Maya Hope by Timothy Browne. Strong Christian message, but settings authentically rendered. Good look at a charity clinic in Guatemala and evil N. Korean dudes. Dumb ending. 4 stars.
15. Viable Hostage by Audrey J. Cole. Chilling premise regarding the "hostage" of the title. Interesting. Too many different cops to keep straight. 4 stars.
16. The Marburg Mutation by Allen Kent. Another pretty good virus thriller. Interesting characters. Stretches plausibility in spots but not to breaking point. 5 stars.
17. The Savant of Chelsea by Suzanne Jenkins. Reads more like a case history than a novel in spots. Not sure about plausibility of the main character's transformation. A sincere intention behind the work; read the author's note at the end. 3 stars.

Book by book review, very mixed bag, 37/85 some 5* but a few so terrible they scored 0.

1. Death Hub. It's the 7th in a series too much time on backstory & brings in stuff don't need. Difficult to remain engaged - sentences that made no sense, bad protocol when suspect in hosp, no explanation why suspect 'out of bounds' despite record 0 stars.
2. Shatterproof. Mum & daughter. Several plot holes. Rescue too easy 1 star.
3. Overdose. This was odd I have too many questions. End reached too easily. Had more potential than result 2 stars.
4. Two Hearts Unspoken Targets. Title like a bad romance novel & it was!! It's not a medical thriller. As a romance 2 stars.
5. Fatal Limits. Great read! Enjoyed this. PD takes on the case for her BFF whose Aunt is killed. With plenty of twists & turns as PD tries to work out who is the guilty party. I would consider reading more by this author. 4 stars
6. The Gamma Sequence. Brilliant. Read it!! The horrors of genetic manipulation of the human race are realised in a most compelling read. Finally a 5/5!
7. Unlawful Harvest. This was kind of ok but there were errors, a couple relating to the name of the donor etc. Didn't like the end. Errors and weak end 2/5.
8. Justice for All. Not a medical thriller. Just DNA captures rapist years later. I don't think it should be here. 0/5
9. Savage Art. Read this before & was thoroughly gripped again. Recommended along with the rest of the series. 5/5
10. Only Wrong Once. Read this before too. It's ok but I preferred the last one. Epilogue overdid it 3/5
11. The Healer. I admit that I tried but so boring I skim read a bit but jumped to the end, unutterably boring. 0/5
12. The Outcome. If you want to know how to do a liver transplant then read on it's really detailed, oh & there's a side love story. No mystery, weird. 0/5
13. If A Tree Falls. Back to real crime with a serial killer. Good read. 4/5
14. Maya Hope. Heavily religious but I enjoyed the story itself. 3/5
15. Viable Hostage. Idea had potential, but it's not as good as expected. End rushed. 2/5
16. Marburg Mutation. Biological warfare to the highest bidder. Very good want to read more. 5/5
17. The Savant of Chelsea. Plain weird. Not sure what to make of it at all. 2/5 but only because I like Alexandra!

I love it when a group of authors come together and put their work into a collection. It’s good for them and it gives me a chance to read some great books at a super low price! Plus, I often find new authors that I haven’t had the chance to read before so that’s icing on the cake! One such example is the Do No Harm collection. It features 17 authors, each one contributing a superb medical thriller written in the style of authors like Robin Cook, David Balducci, and Patricia Cornwell.
One of the books in this collection is Unlawful Harvest by P.D. Workman. Unlawful Harvest is the story of 2 sisters- one with a serious kidney disease that ends up dying, and the other is the older sister who doesn’t quite believe that the disease is what killed her sister. MacKenzie begins to question Amanda’s death, but her parents shut her down quickly. Being well-to-do, they are very involved in charitable organizations and fundraisers. They convince MacKenzie that stirring things up could affect the organization that they’ve started to help people who suffer from the same disease. Things escalate when MacKenzie continues to investigate. What really happened when Amanda went to another country for treatment? And why are her parents so close mouthed about it?

'Do No Harm' is a boxed set of seventeen medical thrillers. Yes, you read that right: SEVENTEEN - and for less than ten bucks. (If, like me, you gobbled up the pre-order, you could have had it for the ludicrous price of 99 cents!) I was initially attracted to this collection as it contained novels written by authors with whom I am already familiar. Christoph Fischer (one of my favorite Indie writers), who created the 'Three Nations Trilogy' and a number of other works of excellent literary fiction, has contributed 'The Healer', an ambiguous tale of a medicine man who may or may not be a fraud. Uvi Poznansky's 'The Overdose' contains her trademark thriller adrenaline rushes. Judith Lucci's 'Shatter Proof' displays her medical expertise to excellent effect; and Tamara Ferguson's 'Two Hearts Unspoken Targets' features her usual elegant prose that pulls at the heart-strings.
Disclosure: I have not read all the books in this collection - it would have been impossible to get through all these novels in the short time since the boxed set was published - but I felt I wanted to get the good news out to readers that this is a purchase worth making: though I have dipped into some of the other books (and I think I may have found some other writers whose works I want to explore further).

This review is for Viable Hostage by Audrey J. Cole only

I don't read a lot of medical style thrillers like this, but this one was excellent and worthy of the genre. It was fast paced, character driven and exciting. The story was so well put together, and I appreciated the fact that the medical jargon was easy to understand and follow. Medical thrillers can get complicated, which is why I don't typically flock to read them.

Whoever edited this is extraordinarily good at their job. I used to edit, so it's ingrained in me to find errors. There were literally no errors: no spelling mistakes, no formatting issues, no character mixups. And while I guessed the bad guy fairly quickly, it didn't ruin how absolutely gripping and unique the story was! I wish it was longer, but it's really the perfect size story for an anthology. I just prefer longer books normally. I am definitely going to read more from this author in the future.

Cole never disappoints and Viable Hostage from the Do No Harm set is further proof! Her morbid fascination with the maleficent well becomes her innately ominous storyteller soul. Once again I found myself “watching” the cinematic development of the plot as my mind bounced from one horrific deed to the next. Her prose rides the fine line between word and image with clarity and precision – once finished, you will swear you saw the movie! This is a thrilling last second save of a novel and I highly recommend it for those nights that had no intention of lulling you into a peacefully sleepy tranquility anyway. Satiny smooth segues, deceptive detours, calculated cutaways…she will hand you through hell and a basket case…nab the book and get ready to shoulder the consequences of an exsanguinating-ly good read!

It took time but I read 17 novels in my favorite genre of all time and was introduced to several new authors. Bonus was this anthology helped support a worthy cause.

Things to know: This anthology is no longer available on Amazon but the individual novels are. Some of the stories were part of a series. There was violence, adult language, and sexual encounters in several of the books.

The upside: I love genres that include medicine, law enforcement, and military. There were several novels that included more than one of these.

The downside: Some novels were part of a series that I had not previously read. I would have preferred to have been forewarned of this prior to reading those stories. However, I plan at some point in the future to read the other novels in those series and get caught up.

My review is for Unlawful Harvest by PD Workman, which is part of this set. Good suspenseful novel. Who is telling the truth? What is the truth? MacKenzie donated a kidney to her sister Amanda several years ago. But now Amanda is sick again and it appears that she had a second transplant. Where? Why? And most importantly, why did no one in her family tell her? Surprises for MacKenzie keep popping up and she doesn't know who she can trust. She finds out more and more disturbing information as the book progresses.

I would recommend this book to everyone who likes suspenseful medical mysteries.

I totally giving less than stellar reviews of books but please forgive me these 9 I think novellas were fine as first drafts or for idea journals but not as finished products. For one thing my cat could have done a better job of editing. Missing words make me crazy. Some of the ideas could have been good with an exerienced hand. Several were just see through no drama no need to keep reading you know what will happen. I just could not take it any more! Plus I can’t waste all this time on one immense book when I have more books to read for my reading challenge. Picture me in a Lurch sighing head shaking pose.

Excellent Selection!

I'm not a fan of writing a review for a set of books. Some may be great, some not so much. I read the entire set one after the other. And was thrilled to thoroughly enjoy each and every one. I was also surprised with the range of topics. Each covered an entirely different story for each book and was a joy to move on to the next book...with anticipation. Some books were exceptional, written by an unknown author...And I went looking for additional books by the writer.
This was done for charity...but I'd have to say that readers will be getting the best selection for the price...Ever!!!

An Excellent Collection of Medical Mysteries!

I thoroughly enjoyed this collection of medical thrillers. Each one was well done by talented authors and kept me interested.

The stories are intriguing and enjoyable for anyone who loves anything to do with the medical field. I have some background in medical terminology and loved reading about the different mysteries of the field of medicine.

The stories range from drugs, viruses, maladies to dysfunctions of the brain. They are gripping and provide edge of the seat excitement. Kudos to Edwin Dasso and the other creative authors who put this collection together.

I read Viable Hostage by Audrey J Cole from this series. A medical mystery that keeps you on your seat. Malorie and Lani were medical students and roommates. They both are trying to figure out how to balance a love life while trying to make it through medical school. But then Lani goes missing from the bar they are hanging out at.
Malorie tries everything she can to find her friend, but will she find her before it's to late.

Good deal

This was a collection of full length books all of which are good stories.😊 One of the best edited book found on ebooks with only two mistakes I found. Most of the ebooks I have read needed a better proof reader to correct mistakes, likely just typing errors I would think. This collection did not have that problem which made my reading much more enjoyable! I highly recommend this as it was a super price for the 17 full length books, all well written. Thanks Amazon.

I've read the book "Unlawful Harvest" by P.D. Workman, part of this set.
As usual from this author a very well written book, and this time dealing with very serious matter. To call it a thriller is not right, however, and some of the main characters' reactions don't seem very normal. But the book is well worth a read!

So far I've read Shatterproof by Judith Lucci. The book was brilliant! A beautiful combination of a love story blended with the story of the horrors of the Middle East. Add to that the family dynamics of the heroine, Sonia. An enthralling book that I couldn't put down! Can't wait to read more of this series!

Two or three of the books included in this are worth reading

Two or three of these books are worth reading and are well edited and will keep your attention. The rest if you get past the second chapter you will be lucky. They just can't keep the interest of someone who reads a lot. The pleasure just isn't there. To top it off some of them aren't well attitude at all.

Physician Heal The Self

This box set had nothing but stories of the health profession. Stories of those who choose to work with those who are in need of medical attention, all of the attention given is not always what the patient may want or need. All of the stories have well developed plots and characters and are very entertaining.

Seventeen medical thrillers

I read these 17 novels while on a 41 day cruise. They kept me entertained and fascinated. Some were worthy of a five star rating while others were less thrilling. I wish there had been a way to rate each one individually and write a synopsis of each one. Overall I enjoyed each novel and look forward to reading more of the individual authors.

The author moves Alexandra from an abused, but efficient child to a barely functioning Tourette’s Syndrome patient, to a new adult form . This is quite the metamorphosis and a fine read.

The settings of New York and New Orleans are quite delightful, as is Alexandra’s journey.
A good read celebrating the resilency of children and a grand parent’s love.
