When Safina's father, a tribal aristocrat in the northern region of Pakistan expects her to conform to tradition and get married, she rebels and escapes to Canada to reunite with her Canadian mother. While vacationing with her mentor in Turkey, Safina has a chance encounter with a tribal chief who reminds her of her own father and is torn between her pride and the desire to reunite with him. Safina realizes despite her revulsion for tribal customs, tradition is an essential element of her being. She struggles to find stability between her core beliefs and those that are forced on her. Will Safina find the balance she is looking for and come to peace with her family?
Beautifully written. 🌸✍🏼 Very relatable characters. I could not stop reading. Bought it Thursday night and was done reading Saturday morning! Would definitely recommend; especially to gain some insight into the tribal life in Pakistan as well as to understand children with different religious and cultural backgrounds, trying to juggle religion, culture and an identity in the Western world.
Ayesha Ejaz tells a compelling story of tribal rivalries, exotic settings and romance that is nostalgic of M.M.Kaye's The Far Pavilions. But for me the singular part of this book is the breaking down of stereotypes in this must read novel.
