SCANDAL (Regency Lovers 6) is the last book in Amazon #1 & USA Today Bestselling Author, Carole Mortimer’s, historical romance series, Regency Lovers. Author’s This is a steaming HOT Regency romance. Rachel has never met anyone quite like Grayson Long. From the moment of their introduction Rachel finds Mr. Long to be brusque to the point of rudeness, arrogant as any duke, but so handsome he takes her breath away. Closer acquaintance does not improve upon that initial impression, but nor does her heart cease beating faster whenever Mr. Long is anywhere near. Grayson is accustomed now to always standing in the background, to never quite belonging, but it wasn’t always this way. Once he had an estate of his own, a family and a title, but all that was taken from him. He certainly has nothing to offer any woman let alone one as lovely and innocent as Miss Rachel Banford, resulting in him deciding to keep his distance from her whenever possible. But Grayson cannot continue to maintain that distance when Rachel becomes the target of a vindictive woman’s vengeance. I am very happily married to Peter with six sons, and live on the Isle of Man
I’ve read a few of these. They are very smutty and not really historically accurate. This one is my least favorite as it was low on plot and smut. And the teased OW drama (vindictive woman) part is marginal at the very end of the book.
Rachel meets Gray when he saves her by wrestling and incapacitating a charging bull (Regency bulls must’ve been much smaller than what we have in the US) where he calls her an idiot and spanks her bottom right there in the town square. So of course, she’s in love. He’s smitten too but their love is forbidden… or is it.
Bottom Line- It wasn’t super entertaining. There just wasn’t much going on. The other ones I’ve read had loads of smut, action, and OW drama, and this one fell flat. It was a bit of a snoozer.
FINAL DECISION: Just okay for me. The story is hot, but I never got any connection between Rachel and Grayson personally. She doesn't know anything about him that would explain their relationship other than lust.
THE STORY: Rachel Banford is fascinated by Mr. Grayson Long although he is of lower class, being the steward of her friend's fiance and he is also much older than Rachel. Despite their explosive initial meeting, the two circle around one another. Grayson has a secret and he certainly doesn't intend to become involved with an innocent aristocratic young woman.
OPINION: I never got any connection between Gray and Rachel and so the rest of the book was just okay for me. I don't expect much from these stories which are mostly hot sex in with a slight story and character, but this one just didn't do anything for me. It was an okay read but I wanted more connection between the characters.
WORTH MENTIONING: This book is novella length.
CONNECTED BOOKS: SCANDAL is the sixth book in the Regency Lovers series. The books are connected with couples and characters starting in one book to the next. This book can be read as a standalone although there is overlap.
Ms Mortimer's hot historicals usually require a large dose of suspended disbelief, but this one was just one ridiculous notion or situation after another. I almost didnt even finish reading it as I felt it "jumped the shark" in the very first chapter. The heat in the love scenes was smoking as usual, but there were practically no other scenes beside that where you might have any inkling of why or how these two fell in love. Lastly, the resolution/ending was tidily wrapped up in just a page or two. Not at all her best work. Would have received even fewer stars if the it weren't for the steamy bits.
An okay read for me. I did not engage quite as well wit the characters of Grayson and Rachel. The niggle I continue to have about this (and some of her other so called erotic historical romance) is the lack of knowledge about historical romance genre and she makes the mistake of incorporating modernism into it. Explicit language between the characters is more of a modern theme than of Regency times (other than in a men's club). Also the easier sexual relationships are more of a modern feel than of a historical one.
When Grayson Long rescues Rachel she can't seem to think of anyone else but him. He's as arrogant as any Duke and in denial of his own attraction to her. Rachel didn't attend Marchment's Ladies School for nothing. Grayson doesn't stand a chance, but his lack of a title he once possessed makes him feel unworthy. Can there be truth based on a lie? Lots of steam and sex.
I am disappointed in all the six books the author did not write an extension of all the stories. I have read many different authors who make an extra chapter to end their stories. I wasted my money on nothing. First book got you hooked but the other five were not worth buying. So sad
I love reading Carole Mortimer's historical books. Her writing is fab, and she knows how to write the sexy bits too! Loved it. Enjoyable and a pleasure to read. Waiting to read her two new historical's, one being M/M, which I love reading. 5☆
This isn't the first time I've read this story. Now after reading the whole series, I've noticed a trend. All have spankings, oral gratification and some crazy person surrounded by someone who lies. Overall quality of writing is good. This one is short on the epilogue. I would have liked to see the happy ever after unfold as to sum it up with how many children they had. Is it worth reading? ABSOLUTELY! You'll definitely enjoy no cheating or cliffhanger and an amazing read.
An excellent historical Chic-Lit story. With lots of action, mystery and love. An 18-years-old damsel that fall's in love with a man much, much older man in dire need of founds due to a past injustice - a duke that was robbed of his title by an unscrupulous Italian women... but in the end justice and love reach is aim.
