Book Summary How would you react if the person you loved simply vanished? No trace, no explanation. Just gone. Liv understood why she had become isolated at her new university-why she had no friends and why she had an unresolved anger pent up inside her, just waiting to explode. What she didn’t understand was why her boyfriend and best friend of seven years, Hayden, vanished without leaving any trace or explanation to warrant his disappearance from her life. As her eighteenth birthday approaches, Liv starts having visions of Hayden, while being followed on campus and almost murdered, before she is brought to a new school: Puerdios University, School of the Gods. Liv is propelled into Hayden’s world, where mythologies of the past become reality and she is catapulted into a war between the Pure and Dark Gods. As Liv tries to combat her place in this regal, powerful society, she learns more about herself and her own history than she could have ever imagined.

I’m obsessed with the world of Percy Jackson and his fellow demigods, and even though I only went there a moment ago, I would love to visit Greece again in the near future. Yeah, it’s safe to say I’m invested into Greek mythology, and when I saw this book appearing everywhere on Instagram, I just had to get it. Didn’t you see the cover? One-woman show Andrea Blythe Liebman clearly knows less is more.

Olivia is recovering from a break-up with her former boyfriend and best friend, leaving her a shut in outcast at college. On her 18th birthday, she decides to make a change and start living again. Suddenly, she seems to notice things that were hidden before, and she gets caught in undesired attention of strangers. Even people she knows, like said ex-boyfriend Hayden, turn up again. After a disastrous murder attempt, Liv gets thrown into Puerdios University, where the descendants of ancient Greek gods prepare for their future. Hayden appears to be the Prince of Gods, who unwillingly made her a pawn in a war of politics between Pure and Dark Gods. In a realm of prophecies, constantly changing loyalties and unknown archaic powers, it’s up to Liv to decide who she wants to be in this conflict. The world might depend on it.

Even though the book consisted of multiple long sentences, Liebman used a simple, fluent writing style. It was easy to follow along, especially when the action kicked in after around fifty pages. The wording was whimsical nonetheless, and makes you feel as if you’re actually living in a myth. For a debut, it was obvious there had been a great amount of time devoted to assembles the world and its godly culture. I specifically loved the serene and medieval descriptions of Puerdios University, as if it could be a sister building to our beloved Hogwarts. Especially clothing was clearly an important part of the atmosphere. It was fun, and made me wish these type of magnificent dresses were available anywhere else than on Pinterest.
Granted, the plot rushes by really fast, making it sometimes difficult to understand the division of power and the magic system. For starters, I would have liked to see an extra informational part at the end describing all the Pillars and their powers. However, thanks to its unique and mature plot line, it’s different than any other YA book I’ve ever read. Unlike other mythology books, Young Power doesn’t merely focus on the most famous myths, but also on the minor characters and the less known versions of these tales. Liebman structured revelations very well, with small hints all lining up eventually. Briefly said, the theme and power system definitely had potential.

While the characters are relatively predictable, I fell in love with them immediately. They were obviously distinguished, each having their own identity. Olivia was an amusing heroine. She refuses to be seen as vulnerable or weak, and sees equal value in all of her friends. The book turns her into a critical thinker, which is necessary in this matter of political sides. One could say she struggles with insecurity and social anxiety, especially at the beginning. Andrea handled this nearly perfectly, and I could easily relate to her. Her character adds an interesting aspect to the war, since she wants to do good for the humans as well as the gods. Love interest Hayden felt rather flat to me until the ending of the book, which is why he’s one of the characters I liked the least. As always, I was drawn more to the minor characters: reckless party animal Peyton, asocial snarky Rei and geeky kind Piper. Hopefully we get to see more of Joss in the sequel, because I loved her too.

Due to Hayden’s character, the romance felt too cheesy to me, which is why I only rated the book 3.5 stars. Yet, if you’re a fan of Percy Jackson like me, don’t hesitate to pick up this book. It has the same godly vibes, but the storyline is more directed towards mature readers. Yes, it could have used more twists and turns, but what I found most interesting is that Liebman managed to give this war a morally grey area. Pure Gods have a cruel and unfair hierarchy, while less radical Dark Gods can have reasonable motivations. Most authors forget about this, so it’s amazing that Andrea dares to go against political principles. And yeah, there were some spelling mistakes, but I refuse to be snarky about that. Andrea did a wonderful job, all by herself, and we should all give her the recognition she deserves. Can you believe she created a whole world, including aesthetics and chapter playlists, all based on one Halsey song? In-cre-di-ble!

First of all I want to thank the lovely Andrea for sending me a copy of Young Power in exchange for a honest review!

The story focus on modern gods, magic, and romance. This is a thrilling tale about the Pure Gods versus the Dark Gods. Doesn't that sound exciting? If you're a fan of myths and magic like me then you NEED to have this book in your tbr list!

It is set in the present time and takes place in Puerdios University which is a School of the Gods. I wish I could enroll in this school, and explore the magic of Puerdios University myself! 😆✨

My favorite part is the bit when Hayden and Liv finally had a time together in chapter 14. I couldn't help but think about how these two are a match made in heaven 😍

I also love how I can easily connect with Liv's character and her love for coffee 🙈 The story also has an amazing friendship theme, Liv and Peyton are goals! 👯

My favorite thing from the story is definitely the concept of Ollie constellation 💫 I wish I have my own constellation too. The idea of having my own constellation and was named after me sounds amazeballs!! 😆🖤

Overall, the story is honestly captivating and very spectacular! The sneak peek of the next book in the series, Elemental Power, got me even more excited to know what's next for our girl, Liv.

I think this book is perfect for people who loves classical mythology, magic, amazing friendship, and forbidden love. And to Percy Jackson fans, I think I just found your next favorite book! 😉🖤

Young Power is different than anything I have read, and I love it very much. Before I start this review, I would like to thank Andrea for sending me a copy of her book, and for trusting me.

Young Power is young adult fantasy novel that is a part of Young Power series, that concentrates on modern gods who's ancestry goes back to greek mythological gods . I would consider Young Power as reimagination of Greek Gods . The writing is exceptional and I love how Andrea explained and described the world through Liv's eyes, and she a made me feel apart of that world. As the first book in the series, Young Power revolves around Liv discovering her powers, of finding a way back to her legacy, and also establishing who is good and who is bad.

“It was a silly notion now. But a part of her remained to believe that she could find her way through the darkness as long as she took the time to observe the stars.”

Liv thinks of herself as an ordinary human, as far as she knows there isn't anything special about her. After a heartbreaking break up, Liv slowly falls into depression, as much as she tries to forget the bitter taste of the break up and her ex boyfriend, it's still in the back of her mind. And when she moves to different state, for college she's hoping for a new beginning but the first step she takes on college grounds, she begins feeling as though somebody is following her, her every step. She feels her ex boyfriends presence all around her. The simple thought of him breaks her heart, is it a simple hallucination because she lost him, or is he really here? After finding out that Hayden has been keeping track of her,and after finding he is in a new relationship, she ends up crashed and even more heartbroken than she was before. She realizes soon that Hayden was protecting her from afar all along. Protecting her from evil forces and after getting attacked Livs shown the world Hayden left her for,and what she finds is more than she expected. She finds a whole new world. But fitting in is a different story and in Young Power you will find out how Liv deals heartbreak and changes, major supernatural changes.

“Your future is bright, just follow the stars.”

description

“How long does it take to act a certain way before it becomes a description of who you are, a definitive part of yourself.”

I really liked Hayden, you could see through his actions that all he wants is to protect Liv from danger, because even though he broke up with her, she's still the only person in his heart and mind. But his obligation and duty forced him to put his loving relationship with Liv in the second place in order to become the man he is supposed to be.

I loved other characters very much, because they played a major part in the development of the story, of course there are some characters that I dislike, for example Hayden's father, the supposed friend Liv meets in the beginning of the book, but the reason why I didn't like them you will find out after reading this amazing book when it comes out May 14th.

I am huge fan of mythology and I love how Andrea combined mythology into the story, it really fits perfectly into the story.  And the aspect of Pure Gods and Dark Gods, I love very much. I love how in-depth Andrea went with it. Showed us the reason why Pure and Dark Gods existed, and who's the good and who's the bad, and the reason behind their actions.

Overall, I liked the story very much and I would really like to recommend it to everyone who likes ya and fantasy, and most of all to people who enjoy reading books with elements of mythology. Also, I can't wait for the second book and I hope there will be more action and more Hayden and Liv. The sneak peek at the end of the book has me begging for the second book. I also hope you will read this book, because I really liked it and I have a feeling that you will like it too. “What if we aren’t the main characters in each other’s love story? What if we’re just the supporting characters who ultimately move one another individually toward that bigger, one kind of romance?” -Andrea Blythe Liebman🖤

Young Power
☆☆☆.5

First I want to say thank you to the author for sending me this book and some goodies along with it in exchange for an honest review!🖤

Gods, heroes, and stories come to life in this first installment of a series rooted in ancient Greek myths and legends.

Liv is just a normal girl headed to college and ready to start over after her best friend turned boyfriend, Hayden, disappears after their surprising and emotional breakup. As she wanders through college life, ominous and suspicious events start occurring around her, and she begins to see visions of Hayden everywhere. But what if those visions were real and the world she thought she knew just got a lot bigger?

One of the things I adored about this book was the concept. It reminded me of an adult version of Percy Jackson, which I loved! The idea of a school founded on Greek mythology where descendants of each god have evolved to have pillars of modern talents, such as security, meteorology, criminal justice, and more is just such a COOL idea!😎 Our heroine, Liv, also goes through struggles that every fresh college student goes through, finding new friends, adjusting to academic life and adapting to new social patterns, all while being completely on her own.

I did feel the characters at times were very doubtful of themselves and predictable, but, overall, the story was a cute romantic journey of a girl finding herself and her place in the world.😊

I am head over heels in love with this fantasy! Before I forget, thank you Andrea Blythe Liebman for sending in an advance copy of your book. 😍 I would like to rate "Young power" a 4.7 on 5, because of how generous it has been with its components of passion, humor, love and supernatural powers. I also want to appreciate Andrea for her Harry Potter references that made me smile wide😁!

This story opens into the life of a college student, Liv, who is now falling into depression and sadness after a distasteful break-up. However, her gut continues to hint something really eerie - a feeling as though he is still following her, even after she had moved into a college, quite far from her previous place. And his might not be the only prying eyes, following her every step, every breath. Is she simply hallucinating as a result of her recent heart break, or is it because she is avoiding everyone and acting as if she is boring to let no one fall for her again? How do you think she will react when she discovers that now ex-boyfriend  happens to stay near her new campus, but is in a new relationship? If it was for me, it would have been like the whole world crashing down on her. But strangely, it also seems as though he is protecting her from some evil forces, unknown to her, waiting to snatch her from her loved ones! This made me take a totally different outlook on my view of the boyfriend from what I had started off with! You will continue to find a further series of grave secrets surrounding his character, which obviously means more shocks in store for Liv! But guess what, he isn't the only one! In turn, he is even more shocked to know the truth about Liv's parentage 😳

Guys if you are a hard core fan of Percy Jackson and/or Harry Potter, then this one's for you👍👍This amazing adventure is officially releasing on May 14th! Pre-order your copy now on Kindle or iBooks and be ready to get grilled, waiting for the second release-just like me😅.

*I was given a copy of this book to review by the author in exchange for my fair and honest review.*

Young Power is the fantastic, utterly original debut novel by Andrea Blythe Liebman. Using Greek mythology as a sturdy platform, Liebman takes points from the gods of old to create gods for the modern age. And with a war between Good and Evil coming to a head, the last thing the gods need is a mortal girl getting in their way. Or could she be the key that could put a stop to the war once and for all?

Liv is living a charmed life with her boyfriend Hayden as her 18th birthday approaches. Life couldn't be better until she is ghosted by Hayden. Their once close bond shattered, leaving Liv broken hearted and full of questions. The biggest one being- Why? She falls into a deep depression, binge studying and reading. As her birthday inches closer, Liv decides to live her best college life, determined to get over Hayden. But odd things begin to occur. Liv can feel Hayden all around her, and catches glimpses of a ghost like Hayden out of the corner of her eye. A strange creature with bright blue eyes is following her, and students who should have no knowledge about her, huddle together and whisper about her as she walks by. One night Liv is attacked, almost murdered, and is catapulted into the world Hayden was forced to leave her for- Puerdios University, School of the Gods and a world where mythologies of the past are still a reality. And a war that's been brewing between the Pure and the Dark is about to erupt any minute. Meanwhile, Hayden is not a mortal, but a God and is unable to interact with mortals after his 18th birthday. Though they are not allowed to be together, Hayden and Liv's love is too strong and begin meeting in secret. When King Rowan, Hayden's father, discovers their forbidden romance, he sentences Liv to prison and sends Hayden to the Underworld. As Liv is dragged from her cell to watch Hayden's execution, she cannot fathom a world without him. Right as he is about to be executed, Liv, full of anger, rage and grief, unleashes a whirlwind of power, releasing Hayden from his bindings and preventing any harm done to him. Leaving the gods in shock, as well as herself, one thing is for certain, Liv just may have become a character in one of her beloved mythologies.

I loved loved loved this book! I enjoyed reading a fantasy novel that didn't fall into the normal YA fantasy tropes. Young Power is a breath of fresh air that the fantasy world needs! I loved seeing this amazing new world through Liv's eyes and her reactions to it. She is definitely a likable character and one you definitely will root for! A selfless and brave character is always a great one! The characters were all pretty well fleshed out- most were easy to do since most of the cast of main characters are modern gods, but their ancestry goes back to Greek mythological gods. This inclusion of Greek mythology used as a background to a new, modern one was done seamlessly and was not at all confusing. It made the plot original and interesting. And as for the plot, it was definitely fast paced, with the secrets surrounding Liv, keeping the story intriguing and moving the plot along. Liebman left a few breadcrumbs along the way by giving minor details that lead to bigger revelations.

Andrea Blythe Liebman definitely has started her career out strong with Young Power. Forbidden romance, Greek Gods, a war between good and evil, and a mortal girl who might not be as normal as she seems to be? Move over Percy Jackson, a new girl with a new power is in town, and I wouldn't get in her way! Thank God there's a sequel!

3.5 stars!

This was fun! I really enjoyed the premise. I am always weak for mythology and gods and what not, so I really enjoyed the world and the characters here. For the most part, I found that the characters personalities were well developed and they felt like solid people to me, which is always important for me in order to enjoy a story.

The plot was definitely interesting! I never get sick of the secret half-god born to a human premise. I mean, it takes me back to my PJO days, so how could I hate that? There were some parts within the plot I didn't really understand, like why the pillars felt they could put the royalty ruling all of the gods on quests rather than, you know, be loyal.

The writing style wasn't my favorite. It felt more middle grade but you know what? I still had fun reading it so it's not really that big of a deal.

And we got a cliffhanger! Gonna have to see what happens next!

Thank you so much to Andrea Blythe Liebman for providing a copy to review! Can't wait for the next one!

Young Power was everything I didn’t know I needed but ended up needing more of by the end.

Percy Jackson for adults and perfect for fans of mythological retellings, Andrea’s debut novel not only meets every Young Adult checkmark but the sequels sneak peek brings in adult romance that’s perfect for those wanting and little more heat in their fantasy Reads.

Liv in the first few chapters is a soul mirror of my own. Always on the fringe, never quite fitting in and always wondering if everyone is as genuinely happy as they appear to be. That sense of loneliness that comes when you’re sitting in a large crowded room always searching and seeking for something just out of reach.

The world she fumbles down into with Hayden and his friends is some of the finest building I’ve read this year. New and exciting while also bringing in traditional mythology I could not put this book down.

This is a coming of age book, but not like anything that you have ever read before. This one has amazing friendships, royalty, Greek mythology, elemental powers, action, depending war and a mysterious school. Like what more could you ever want from a YA novel.
I have been dying to read this book ever since it started to pop up on Bookstagram, and I was lucky enough to get to borrow my best friends copy ones she was finished reading it. And I read this beauty in little over a day, it was that good. It had me hooked right from the start, and it kept up the action and intriguing moments, and I did not want to put it down.

"What if we aren't the main characters in each other's love story? What if we're just the supporting characters who ultimately move each other individually toward that bigger, one of a kind romance. What if we're just helping each other find that infinite person, and this is just prelude?"

The characters are so well written, and I really love how the story flows. And when thinking that this book is actually a one woman show, my mind is literally blown. Andrea Blythe Liebman has written, edited and published this masterpiece all by herself, and she will forever have my respect, I love seeing people accomplish their dreams, and especially when that dream also brings me joy.
Book two in this epic story is set to come out in the fall this year, and I am super excited for it. This book should definitely be on every ones radar, go check it out straight away people. The only thing that would have made me love this book more was if it was an adult novel and not a YA novel.

"What I am capable of is so much more than he could ever imagine, Hayden. And you best remember that, too. So let the thunder roll, that's only the beginning of my story."

Romance, fantasy, Magic, mythology, gods, politics, action, banter, high end fashion, murder, betrayal, secrets, and amazing characters. That’s how I would sum up this book😂. To start off I’m 5’10” and in a majority of books the female lead is usually 5’6” or shorter. I really appreciated having our MC, Olivia be tall and easy to relate to, for me at least😂. I’ve always had an interest in high end fashion: couture, haute couture and odd gala gowns. This book has some of the best clothes I’ve ever had the privilege of reading about. Thankfully the author has a background in fashion so she knew what she was talking about. If you get a chance go to her Instagram @youngpowerseries and take a look at the moodboards she has made for the characters. They are just stunning👏🏻👏🏻 and you can see the inspiration for some of the outfits from the story.

Aside from all of that, I loved the magic system and the theme of dark v. Light. The characters attend a university, of sorts, that gave me hardcore Hogwarts vibes 😍 If you are one who loves politics in fantasy books there are plenty in YP. With royalty, uprising, and the history of the characters is becomes quite political as to why nothing has been to make things better mostly all due to politics and tradition.

The writing was beautiful and Andrea has a way of just sucking you in right away. For me I think it was the mystery behind our MC’s past and the mood of the story. I didn’t really know what to expect going in. I’m one of those readers who like to know very little when starting a book. So at the beginning of all this i listed some characteristics of the book to describe the vibe and what to expect. But that is nothing compared to actually reading this book! It’s such a fast paced read that you don’t want to put down! Which is probably how I read this is a day and a half😂 but seriously I hope I’ve convinced more of you to pick this one up or add it to your tbr!

No trace, no explanation. Just Gone.
-
I wanted to start by saying Young Power is like no other book I’ve come across. I absolutely love that Andrea has created a Instagram page that gives you the visuals and scenery for the plot. I also loved how she put a playlist together that perfectly captures the book!
-
This YA Fantasy novel is exciting and gripping until the very last pages. Another thing I really enjoyed is that it incorporated Greek mythology as you don’t see that a lot in books. My personal opinion is Young Power takes Greek mythology to a whole new level that we can all love!
-
I am so excited for Elemental Power and can’t wait to continue Hayden’s and Liv’s journey. If you haven’t yet read Young Power I definitely recommend you grab yourself a copy!

If you were to open up YP without knowing anything about it, you would maybe think this would be your typical cute, coming-of-age novel… but you’d be WRONG!! We are introduced to Liv in a time of transition and search of self— freshman year of college. (YP starts with one of the most relatable openings that I think I’ve ever read in a book!) I instantly connected to Liv and her love of coffee and loved being able to grow with her as the novel progressed. Andrea also introduces us to a great bunch of characters each with their own endearing, layered personalities (as well as some SWOON-WORTHY guys)! All that aside, y’all KNOW that I love a good Fantasy book! (It’s my JAM!!) YP delivers on that front, too! Like I’ve said before, it’s like the Percy Jackson & ACOTAR series had a baby!! It takes the classic mythology that we know and love and expands it into this intricate world of Pure and Dark gods, good and evil (or is it really all that black and white???). It was such a captivating read that had my emotions soaring every which way. This was of course aided by the Spotify Playlists that Andrea specifically curated for each chapter! Andrea’s thoughtfulness and attention to detail sometimes astounds me. I cried happy and sad tears quite a few times, and overall, I don’t think I can ever fully express how much I love this book! Everyone should go buy YP and get ready for her second book Elemental Power which will be coming out later this year!

⇒Featuring romance, gods and magic
Twilight meets Percy Jackon in Andrea Blythe Liebman's debut YA novel, Young Power. This paranormal romance was witty and well written and I really enjoyed it as a light read. In this book, we see a remaining of greek mythology done really well, with a school for gods and a feud between Pure Gods and Dark Gods at it's centre.
Our main character, Liv, is very new to this world and seeing it through her eyes we feel the same confusion she does, but also the same awe. I thin Liv was a really good main character. She was very selfless and brave but also a little predictable.
I really liked the secondary characters, especially Peyton and Piper. I'll admit, I wasn't a big fan of Hayden. Please don't murder me, Hayden stans! He just wasn't my type. He's certainly cute with Liv but I felt like he was a slightly clichéd love interest.
I really loved the greek mythology in this book. It made the world really interesting and unique. The idea of Young Power was really great, but because it really centred around romance, I didn't it enjoy it as much as I wanted to. If you like romance, I'm sure you'll love it, but I'm not a big fan of the genre so that took a bit away from the book for me.
There was some really good description in the book, I really got a sense of the world and characters this way, especially their outfits, which were always described in detail.
Andrea did pretty well with dropping little hints earlier in the book that linked back later, which I really liked. The dialogue felt very natural and I liked the friendships between Liv and the other characters.
One downside of this book for me is that it felt a little cliché. Clichés can be hard to steer clear of and Young Power didn't. It was still enjoyable, but for me that and the romance made it not quite extraordinary.
Still, I would recommend this book to lovers of fantasy romance and mythology! It was a fun read that I enjoyed and I'll definitely read the sequel, Elemental Power.

Thank you to the lovely Andrea for sending me a copy of Young Power!

This story is captivating, unique, and perfect if you’re a fan of mythology and forbidden love.

I could relate to the main character, Liv, in a lot of ways, which is nice while reading a fantasy story. Made me feel even more connected to the book.

I received this book in exchange of my honest review!

I honestly have to say that if I had read this book a long time ago, I would have probably loved, mostly because it is very much interesting, alongside the fact that the concept behind this book seemed honestly one of the most interesting ever, mostly for a teenager! Eroine it would be definitely her perfect read but for "Almost-But-Not-Mentally-Adult-Eroine" it was an ok read.

I do have to say that the idea was very interesting and definitely my genre, since it was something I personally study (Greek mythology and literature) so I honestly liked the idea of creating a legacy of the gods, although I find like many part of this worldbuilding were left behind, almost obscured and with it being a very complex world-building it is a bit difficult to follow, when it is sadly shadowed by the many lovers quarrels happening in the book.

In fact I found myself a bit in trouble mostly for the main couple in the book, which I do have to say isn't one of my favorite, starting from the fact that its importance take up the entire book in a constant "push-and-pull" between the characters on it that sometimes goes a bit too fare, obscuring a few interesting details.

Also I honestly have to say that I felt like this constant codependency with the male character, always shadowed the main character's personality and I have a little personal note on her own introversion, which I felt was written a little too much through stereotypes, because it was taken to extreme and then forgotten, which is not a real representation of introversion.

As an introvert myself, I sadly couldn't empathize with the character for this characteristic which brought me to find myself a bit annoyed with her sometimes, sadly.

Still I honestly loved the character of Piper, since I always find myself loving more the secondary characters, who I found not only cute and nice, but a very interesting new idea of character, in which I find myself more, than the actual main character.

I honestly feel like this book is a very interesting re-telling, mostly if you look for retelling with a lot of romance (which are sadly not my ideal), I would say that it is a very nice and quick read for a busy time, where you want to escape on Olympus.

This story captivated my attention immediately. The mystery and suspense surrounding Liv as she begins a new chapter in her life is what keeps this story interesting. The author does a great job of keeping the reader engaged by delivering minor details that eventually turn into bigger ones. I can relate to Liv in some ways, which is another reason I loved this book so much. I couldn’t put the book down and enjoyed learning about the Greek Gods while reading. I highly recommend this book!

Young Power by Andrea Blythe Liebman is a book I was very excited to read when I first heard about it. I love anything with some Greek Mythology and the fact that Young Power was all about that but different in it's unique way was amazing. The fact that there are Pure Gods and Dark Gods gave the book the edginess it needs, with the perfect amount of romantic relationships and friendships! So many characters to love... and hate.

When I started reading it I felt it was a little of a slow start but getting toward the middle, it became interesting enough to dive into the world of Puerdios University. It was the light fantasy I needed! If high fantasy is too much for you, like myself... I would say this is the perfect read for you. It starts off in our own world, and you're put into a new fantasy world, discovering everything with the main character, Liv. That's what I enjoyed, the transition of our world, to the world of the Pure and Dark Gods!

I will be keeping an eye out for Elemental Power coming out sometime later this year!

Exciting book! I enjoyed the plot and the pace of this fantasy as well as the interesting characters. We do not get bogged down in unnecessary description or inward thoughts. The heroes are distinct and lovable and there is room for doubt about the bad guys as well. I look forward to the sequel! Good work, A.B.!

This review will contain spoilers

I received my copy of Young Power (Andrea Blythe Liebman) with Moonlight Crate's September box. I had never heard of it before, and I wasn't entirely sure what it was about from the description alone, but as soon as I started I got the impression that those who love the Percy Jackson books would love this one too.

As soon as I started it I knew this was a book I would have devoured as a teen, I could relate a little to the university experience but I know if I read it during that time this could very well have been a favourite of mine.

Young Power tells the aftermath of a relationship breakdown while also facing the daunting experience of attending a university with little to no friends. Liv is struggling to adapt to the university life after Hayden, the boy she loved, unexpectedly ends their relationship them seems to disappear completely. After she begins to experience strange visions of Hayden with fears of being followed around the campus.

Suddenly and unexpectedly Hayden returns with stories of Gods and how she is linked in ways she never knew before.

I enjoyed the book overall, I liked the premise of the Gods and the idea of the school. I thought there could have been more build-up in regards to the power systems, we were told that certain Gods had certain powers but then it seemed that everyone could all do the same thing with little differences.

The Light and Dark God concept was also confusing, it was almost contradictory at times, where there would be physical signs of someone turning Dark but then later in the book a number of characters were 'secretly' Dark and no one noticed? Dark Gods were spoken about being evil throughout then were sat in the same campus as light students, and working with the Light? I also didn't think the physical qualities being Dark, dark eyes, wearing all dark, dark hair etc. I feel its quite discriminatory to those who have those qualities or simply like to wear black.

Liv was a good character but became quite whiny as the book went on, she started to complain about being treated a different way and then would treat Hayden in the same way, one big thing was that she got angry when he summoned her, but throughout the book had summoned him multiple times, she got upset about being treated differently when it was clear she wasn't as trained like everyone else.

I saw the elemental powers coming, I picked up early on that her mood was linked to the weather, what I felt was strange was that she was very suddenly an expert in spells, there were times at the start where she was struggling to use them then a chapter or so later it was almost like she was an expert.

Hayden and many other characters felt a little flat to me, there was a lot of mention of the relationship they had before he left, and it was clear the relationship they had was established, but there seemed to be no aftermath of his actions. Regardless of the reasons he had to leave and lie, there seemed to be little repercussions of this, Liv never questioned a lot, instead, she seemed the question the odd thing every now and again, but got over it pretty quickly.

I liked both Piper and Peyton as characters, I think the author tried to make them opposites in Peyton being a very girly girl who was in a sorority whereas Piper a more reserved outcast, and I liked that Liv had the different friends as it is real to life. However once the story really began to flow more they fell into a mix of one character, any defining characteristics of their personality disappeared and they were almost both mentioned in order to show they were still around. There was a few occasions where I got confused between the two.

I think it was an alright book, I don't think its one I will continue with at the moment, I did like the story itself, I don't know much about Greek Gods so I have no clue about any of the myths. Overall it wasn't a bad read.

A review on a newly released fantasy and Greek mythology book, Young Power which will soon be a series.

Fantasy has always been my favourite genre so when I heard of this newly released book, Young Power and the author (Andrea Blythe Liebman) sent me the eBook I knew I had to review it after that. I always will be honest with reviews and write about the good and bad points of the book. Luckily for me, there aren’t many bad points in this book and for me the good points definitely overpowered the bad. I’d say I have high standards when it comes to liking a book and this one is up there.

Young Power Series Review: Fantasy and Mythology Book
Young Power is a book that gives a twist to Greek mythology and focuses on modern Gods, legacies and finding the right path in a world where everything isn’t black and white and the difference between evil and good becomes unclear. The idea of there being Pure Gods and Dark Gods is clever and it’s a lot more complicated than it sounds.

The book started off in a familiar setting for readers, inside a cafe and already I grew a strong liking towards the main character, Liv as she just seems like the average student struggling with fitting in and who has an addiction to coffee. However this isn’t the case, secrets and mysteries are slowly unraveled and I liked how the author kept the suspense without blurting out a lot of information so that readers won’t struggle to get their head around it.

Characters
When Liv is introduced as someone who is recovering from a bad breakup, she thinks that Hayden (who is her ex boyfriend) presence is around all the time. She finds out the real reasoning behind the breakup and she is thrown into an entirely new world where fitting in is even harder than it is in the mortal world. From the first chapter the plot intrigued me as well as the characters who were introduced who played major parts to the plot and didn’t just exist.

Hayden was a little protective, however his character development changed that and it’s understandable why as he struggled to put work first and relationships second.

Plot
Although a little slow paced in the beginning, all characters were introduced within a few chapters and I loved how much detail there was with description. The action does pick up after the first few chapters and that’s when the pace picks up and when the book does become more interesting than it already was.

The rest of this review is on my blog post here!

I also had the oppurtinity to ask the author some questions!

One of my daughters is named Athena so it is safe to say that I love Greek mythology so I was more than happy to be a part of this book tour. Which I don't regret at all because this was really freaking good! I had fun being in this world and what a world it was.

Olivia is just turning 18, in college, and very much not an upbeat almost 18 year old in college. She used to be. Until her best friend of seven years/boyfriend of three suddenly breaks up with her just as they are graduating. Not just that but he ghosts her. She is young and heartbroken and starting a new chapter in life that had been planned out with someone. We've all been there at least once. AND THEN BOOM GOES THE DYNAMITE..because Hayden is back out of nowhere and not across the country like he said he'd be...and why? Well because someone was going to murder her and we can't have that. Absolutely not. Also now she's in the middle of a war between Pure Gods and Dark Gods. I did say boom goes the dynamite.

One of my favorite things about this book is that there was some focus on some of the minor gods. I love me some Hades forever and ever but reading something based in Greek myth and it not be about the big three was refreshing and fun. There are so many other types of gods that no one ever focuses on and that was major plus for me and bumped this up from 3.5 stars to four.

Thank you so much to the author for sending me a free copy of this book!! This book gave me a lot of Percy Jackson vibes (the movies, that is, since I haven't read the books 😅) and I really wished I'd enjoyed it more!!

So, the book started out great with the first chapter. I was intrigued by the MC, Olivia, and her whole story. However, as I read on, I felt like some sentences were odd and didn't quite... make sense? The MC and her friends also felt very immature at times, I really didn't have the impression they were college level students. Even some of the things they learned in class, I remember learning that in elementary school. The characters also drink a LOT and focus a LOT on their clothing? I don't know, I just really couldn't feel it. The main love interest also felt weird and forced, and Hayden just kind of fell.. flat. I also feel like the characters' personalities weren't always constant.

The whole outcome was definitely predictable, but I do believe younger me could've enjoyed this book more. 2⭐

3.5/5
We are following Olivia as she begins her university studies, but looming over her head is the recent break-up with her boyfriend Hayden. Liv starts to fall into a monotonous routine of class and studying, until she decides it’s time to move on. Something suspicious is happening around campus with mysterious strangers seeming to follow Liv. After an incident, Liv finds herself in a school for the Gods and in the midst of a battle between ancient rivals.

I found Young Power to be a nice fantasy book with elements of learning what self is and how to be strong in the face of tough times. The world building was a bit confusing at first but I enjoyed the mythology elements! The relationships between Liv and various characters were wonderful to read about. I enjoyed the powers involved and the power hierarchy that was a part of the God world!

Thanks @youngpowerseries @andreablytheliebman for the copy of Young Power for an honest review!

Disclaimer - I received a free copy of this book I exchange for an honest review! Thanks Andrea! ❤️

Percy Jackson meets Harry Potter in this original modern fantasy book. The blend of two of my childhood favorites into a YA Fantasy was something that I throughly enjoyed! The characters were captivating, and Hayden is SO swoon-worthy! I also liked the way the world of the gods was structured - with different gods ruling over different “pillars”.

Puerdios University is so atmospheric and I loved all the setting and clothing descriptions; they really drew you into the story!

The romance in the book was fantastic, too! I can’t wait for book 2!

This book was unlike anything I’ve read in a long while! The mythology and god culture and college nostalgia swept up in this piece is so well cultivated and I really could picture the locations of each scene most vividly. For being a self-published book, I was blown away by the sheer quality of the story and plotting. The story could use a little more diversity and surprises to enrich the experience, but for the first book in a self-published series it was a promising start to an amazing series! If you loved the ACOTAR series and Rick Riordan books, you would probably love this book as well.

Thank you, Andrea, for sending this book to me!

I am extremely grateful to the author of this book for sending me an electronic copy to read and review because I have wanted to dive in to this book for a long time! Its like grown up Percy Jackson, meets a little Hogwarts and a little bit of Gossip Girl. I really enjoyed the protagonist and connected with her a lot! She reminded me of how I was at her age. The only thing that kept from giving this book a full five stars was that there was section in the middle that felt a little repetitive in terms of the characters interactions, but other than that I thought the pacing was great! I'm really looking forward to reading the sequel soon!
