An ambitious extension of Dudbridge's first book, this goes beyond his introductory text to focus on stunt work, visual effects and expanding the scope of what can be done on a range of budgets. It manages to be both detailed and easily accessible, delivering technical terms and expertise in a down-to-earth way. As before, the book is at its best when focusing on Dudbridge's own journey from plucky amateur to jobbing pro, with stories of shooting backyard movies that will be familiar to film students everywhere. He takes us with him as he grows from in-camera editing to high-end editing software, from play-fighting with his friends to hiring stunt coordinators, from shooting cap guns to filming CG alien invaders. A new generation of plucky amateurs would do well to follow in his footsteps. This book will tell them how.
