Volunteer kitten rescuer Margaret “Cleo” Carroll is having a monumentally crappy day. She was kicked out of her rental, her cat just died, and she’d rather stick rusty spoons in her eyes than beg help from her parents. Her house-bus breaking down on the side of the road in Butt-Fuck-Nowhere is the last straw. So when three drool-worthy strangers offer her a deal that seems too good to be true, tequila is to blame for her accepting. But once a deal is made in the name of magic, it cannot be undone. The consequences of reneging are severe, and Cleo has no desire to spend the rest of her days as a rodent. Especially not after her new travel companions show some claws of their own. A girl with no idea who she really is, three men who are much more than they first appear, and an ancient goddess on a power trip. All Cleo wanted to do was rescue some kittens.
**PLEASE NOTE: A portion of this story was published in the limited run charity anthology "Petting Them" but this is the extended, full version of Forgotten Gods Book 1 - Feral Magic.**
This book reads like a sex starved teenagers wet dream. If there wasn't so much sex and references to sex EVERY SINGLE PAGE ugh! Then this actually would be a YA book.
Cleo says the word "like" every 2 seconds. Like, she's so mature because, like, she drinks beer for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and like, she says f**k and fu**ing every other word and like, she finds all the guys attractive, but like, especially the one that treats her like crap. Ooh what a turn on! *gag me*
I did so much eye rolling reading this. It's very disappointing because the plot of this story is interesting, but the execution of it is cringe worthy. I enjoyed the idea of the main character being the bearer of a magical amulet with 3 shape-shifting guardians assigned to protect her, and the amulet, from the goddess Bast and her cult following.
This book really had so much potential, but unfortunately, the plot was mostly drowned out by all the childish BS.
I would not recommend this book to anyone looking for substance in their stories. However, if you are looking for smut and you don't mind the excessively immature jargon, there is a sliver of a good story here to enjoy. Sadly, this book just wasn't for me.
Welllllll.. Let me just say that this has been on my wishlist now for like a month.. the Cover looks amazing and I'm usually waiting with hands out in the "gimme" position for anything coming from Tate James. Here she is starting yet another series while I'm still waiting desperately for books to come out in her series before last. Lol. This, while entertaining, wasn't the best for me. I think it has a great premise and I really like how we are headed toward Egypt mythology on the storyline. I just think that the story itself lacked some cohesion to really pull everything together. It just a little on the "thrown together" side of I still liked it giving me the "what just happened" feel at the end.
For starters our FMC, Cleo... or Margaret.. or Maggie.. or w/e, was a hot mess. Usually thats a score for me. Except this time apparently. She just came across total damsel in distress, pretty naive about everything, kind of on the crayon box half full side. In other words I have no freaking clue why any of these dudes find her even the slightest bit attractive. I believe one seen even had one of the other characters.. probably the antagonist.. say how surprised they are she has been chosen because all the chosen before her were actually clever.. I couldn't help but to agree with the guy. Just gonna reluctantly throw this out there, she is kinda a derp. Its like the other characters have the "it" factor but shes missing it.. I tended to feel more sorry for her than anything and that put a little damper on the whole story for me.
Cleo, in the midst of the worst day ever, having been fired, evicted by her parents and now in an emergency kitten rescue 36 hours away is broke down on the side of the road. Picked up by a handsome stranger, who happens to be her only option, Cleo begins the journey of a lifetime as she is thrown into a supernatural world as the bearer of the light amulet gifted to Hatsheput by Ra. With her 3 shifter guardians they set out to return to the council only to be set upon time and time again by the arch nemesis of Hatsheput, Bastet who is trying to steal the amulet for herself. Cleo and her entourage make some shocking and important discoveries, finding out Cleo isn't your ordinary amulet bearer. Despite being mostly mediocre the entire story Cleo makes some things happen and pulls things off but in the end.. it might not be quite enough.
All in all the storyline itself had me a little on the confused side, not quite making all the sense I would have liked it to make but it wasn't bad and still had quite a few entertaining parts. Not going to lie, I'll probably read the next one when it comes out.. since I'll probably still be waiting on that last book in the author's other series lol.
I liked this story, even though the cat referenced swear words were WAY overdone, probably on purpose. The heroine was fun and reacted realistically to each situation she experienced. Yes, even cuddling with her guardians was realistic given her personality and stress. As a young, confident women she is able to decide about love and sex on her terms. When I read reviews from readers railing against harem books, it makes me wonder about the person writing the review, did they just pick the book for the cover without reading the synopsis or are they weirdos who need attention so badly they would have us believe they didn't know the MC would get down and dirty with multiple players - anywho, I digress. Cleo was cute but not 'cutesy' and her sarcasm was spot on. This book contained just enough action and getting to know ya moments. Very well written and kept me entertained. I enjoyed it as much as Kit Davenport and grammar was much improved - appreciating progress. I am looking forward to reading sequels.
Holy moly!!! Cloe...Raze...Bo...and Hunter...what a team... I recieved an ARC copy of this book...was not disapointed... Cloe (Margaret , Maggie) broke down one evening on her way to texas to rescue kittens...that was the beginning of her adventure!!! And what an adventure it is... Sexy shifting cats ....a crazy god....her life will never be the same again...i wont include any spoilers ...but i will say...if i could have given this book 10 stars i would...lots of laughs lots of nail biting...you just have to read it!!! Am so looking for to the next one in this series!! HOLY CATS...!!! Will read it again lol
A good short read with great characters and interesting storyline. Cleo our heroine is off to texas to save some cats from being killed but on the way she breaks down outside of a nowhere town and gets rescued by a sexy hero. Later she meets another 2 very sexy alpha males and the later tell her that she is a descendant of a powerful Female pharaoh Who was gifted the amulet of life by Ra the ancient Egyptian God. Soon after on rhe run as Cleo has to fight off Followers of a goddess name Bast Who has been after the amulet for aeons. The four must find out how they're being discovered so quickly and later find out Who exactly Cleo is and what she is. Full of sexy alpha men who like to drive her wild. Good read
I enjoyed the mystery of Cleo and her guardians. I especially loved Cleo's inner dialogue which was really funny. There was a bit of a background of the guys but I hope we really get to know them better in the next books.
Oh yeah! Cleo is sass and snark and rolls with the punches pretty well. She has to with her stroke of bad luck lately. Insert the guys and their outlandish story and she thinks she's lost the plot or dreaming but no amount of pinching is going to wake her up. This book is consuming and super funny and hot! I always look forward to reading this author, she never disappoints with her imagination, wit, and awesome characters.
Wow this book was so awesome! A sassy MC and hot cat/not cat dudes. It had a bit of everything that makes a fabulous book. Sexy time, fast paced action and lots of mystery. I loved it!
This was a light hearted, doesn't take itself too seriously read.
I started of liking Clep, the MC, but her juvenile humour and narrative voice did get a bit old and samey after a while.
I suppose this does the classic RH thing of throwing a girl and multiple guys into a crazy situation togethet and then let the sparks fly.
Personally, I like a bit more depth and character development and I don't really feel we got that here, but if you're looking for something light then this could do a turn!
No. No. No. This book was a waste of how many hours it took me to actually finish it. There was one negative review and I should have listen to that review. The constant referrals to cats got annoying very quickly. I love books with a strong female lead and I understand that female leads cry, get emotional or get hysterical at times, but I like a strong female lead and this book did not have one or even a resemblance to one. You would think that an adopted child with a horrible mother and a crappy life would have some survival skills and would have read up on her own history or culture. Would have made the story more enticing once we find out what she was, if she gained or tapped into some actual magic of her own and gained some strength.
The story was incomplete and left too many hanging articles, Nothing was explained, not to mention this girl seemed to have no survival skills and no common sense. I almost gave up reading the book multiple times, but wanted to see it through in order to give a thorough review.
Probably the wackiest road trip I’ve ever read. One Sassy MC with an old fashioned name and three hot guys. Hunter the pigeonholed Aussie, Boden the boss and Raze the one not falling at Maggie’s feet.
For the amount of genitalia mentioned there aren’t that many sex scenes, instead it’s puns, jealousy and trying to survive whilst thinking about sex. Along the lines of the elemental series but a bit more serious, Egyptian and less guys.
Pretty much a damsel in distress that knows her failings running around with a nuke.
I keep rereading this single book in an incomplete series, because something about it just sticks in head, and I'll find myself wondering 'What was that book with the broken down camper-van and the cat rescue girl?'. And then I find it and reread it yet again. One day, I hope Tate will put me out of my misery and complete the series!
So I want to give this a 3.5 star but you know we can’t do 3 it is. But anyways. I really did love Cleo. She was corky and cute and her train of thought was hilarious and all over the place. You never knew what to expect one moment to the next.
Raze was a confusing douche canoe on several occasions and I’m kind of bummed poly isn’t his thing but what can you expect from the brooding, angry and clearly selfish man. But by the looks of things he’s kind of already sharing. It’s just not in his face. So I feel like he will eventually come around to it.
Boden was a great leader. He knew what to say and he knew when to apologize. Which I loved. He could accept when he was wrong or if he over stepped in a way. By above all he always put Cleo first.
Now Hunter was awesome. He was all about Cleo from jump. And did everything he could to be with her even if it was his duty. He still cared for her and despite he touch being addicting he tried to go about things in the appropriate way. I could really appreciate that.
Now my only confusion is how the whole pregnancy thong worked. Like how did Hatshepsut get pregnant by Bast and how did she know it was Bast child? I mean technically that can’t work but you know magic plays a part but still how did she know. I mean they had a threesome. And then why does Bast want the power from Ra so badly? I would also like to know how the guys know Scarface. I mean it seems like they are familiar with him. Maybe he was friend growing but turned to Bast after something happened? Who knows. Maybe it will be revealed in book 2.
Worst. Day. Ever. Cleo's been kicked out of her rental, her hair color is a vivid pink, her cat just died, and on the way to rescue some kittens from a vile kill shelter her house-bus has broken down on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere! Rescued by a drool-worthy Aussie Cleo ends up in a bar downing tequila with him and his friends and entering a deal that has consequences she couldn't even begin to imagine. They say no good deed goes unpunished. All Cleo wanted to do was to rescue some kittens; now she finds herself fighting for her life against an ancient goddess. Worst. Day. EVER.

One magical amulet wearing little firecracker, three sexy cat (shh) shifters, one crazy goddess and her evil bastites all come together for the craziest road trip ever. Cleo is all sass and snark. Her running commentary is my favorite part of the book. Hunter, Bo, and Raze bring the hotness. This is some excellent storytelling; full of twists, packed with sexiness, and overflowing with laughs. Plus, it manages to be a completed story and still have a cliffhanger. Nice accomplishment.
Omg she’s done it again. Tate has this magical way of weaving a story that just means I can’t put it down. I had so many plans today, and I wiped them all as soon as I saw this pretty on kindle, because UNPUTDOWNABLE!! Cleo is hilarious, sassy, and a whole lot badassy. If that isn’t enough, then between Hunter, Boden & Raze, there is every type of alpha you could possibly dream of. I’ve not read much RH, but Tate has a way of making it seem 100% everyday life!
There’s so many twists and turns that you don’t see coming, and once again, I’m blown away by the genius of the storytelling and the ability to suck me in, and not let me go until the last one. Which, btw, I shouted at. Sneaky little Cliffie you!!
Ancient Egypt seems to be an area not many PNR authors have touched in, but Tate does so amazingly. If you’re looking for a hot, funny read, I urge you to grab this today!!
Cleo was a badass when Tate first introduced her in the Petting Them boxset. She has become even more so in this extended version of Feral Magic. Margaret (Cleo) may be stubborn, ditzy, and downright crazy sometimes, but with her world flipped upside down and cultists after her, one cannot blame her for being so. Tate has a skill with creating strong FMCs that you feel compelled to root for. With three guardians pulling her in all directions, things take turns getting more and more interesting each chapter. I honestly couldn't decide who to cheer for. Some of the discoveries along the way are enough to make you "wow, where did that come from?", while some of them are things you should expect to happen in this kind of storyline. Cleo's story is definitely an interesting one and I cannot wait to see where Tate takes it.
There's a first time for everything, and this is the first time I've given Tate less than 5 stars. After reading the original version in the Petting Them anthology, I was excited for the full version. It started out strong and it still had Tate's knack for writing well, but I feel the ending was rushed and a bit like she's lost interest in it. Ideally, this book could be a stand alone with a little bit more detail in it. I enjoyed the story line and the characters; the romance scenes were good but I'm hoping they get better as the series go on (so much teasing Tate!) I found the cat mentions too much, but I'm more of a dog person so that's just a personal thing. I will definitely keep reading the series because it has good bones and I still love Tate James's books!
I'll admit that when I first started reading this book I didn't want to because I'm definitely not a fan of cats, however I am always intrigued by gods and myths. This book has converted me simply so that I can have my own harem of sexy shifters that turn into feline like creatures. As for Cleo she struggles in a situation that she never fully grasped when first thrown in, and tries her hardest to stay on track but it's understandably tricky surrounded by men who are extremely attractive. There's continual action, a little mystery, and a whole heap of sexiness going on. Enjoyable read even if this person normally prefers dogs, however I'll definitely be looking forward to reading the next one and reading this one again.
Interesting and entertaining read. I will say this much even though I enjoyed this book their were some things that could've been better. I would've like some backstory of how things came to be for Cleo. The author glossed over what could've been important information to get a better understand of the story. There were also too many self monologue and repetitive words to describe how Cleo felt for her guys. Don't get me wrong some of it was really funny. Another thing that was confusing was that Cleo guys (guardians) I mean she has three guardians, but they aren't all into sharing?? Isn't this a ménage story. Overall a enjoyable and entertaining read. Looking forward to seeing what else is in store for this series.
This was a fantastic read! I had previously read the first chapter in another book, I think it was an anthology or something, anyway I loved it and was excitedly waiting for it to come out. I’m so glad I finally got to read it. These characters are cats damn amazing! Cleo is hilarious and constantly putting her foot in it, the guys are sexy as hell and all so completely different, the steam level is perfect and the storyline is fantastic, original, entertaining and packed with non-stop action! I definitely, 100% recommend this and I very much look forward to reading the next book whenever and however long it takes to come out, it’s worth the wait!
Contains some sexual content This story is just okay for me. The female lead is adopted, but not at all close to her adoptive parents. Margaret, who goes by Cleo knows nothing about her birth patents. Cleo found a strange necklace at a junk shop when she was about seven and the whole story stems from that necklace. I think the story became repetitive with the find and get away scenes, with the same old snark between Raze and Cleo. The story at the end was to "out there" for me. She has three guardians, but they aren't all into sharing? There were things in the story that didn't make sense to me.
I loved that Tate turned this anthology story into a full blown book. I was sucked in from the shorter version but this new longer version was even better (I don’t know how she does it?). Cleo is just awesome and will blurt out exactly what she’s feeling even if she doesn’t mean to. Her three guardian are especially yummy, I loved them all. I might have loved Raze slightly more than the others but I just swoon for tall, dark and brooding. If you loved the shorter version in the Petting Them Anthology, you’ll love this extended version even more.
I've never really been into RH books so I have avoided this author however I read the blurb to this and it caught my attention. I wasn't disappointed. The story has enough action, sass and shifters that I could cope with the RH aspects.
Tate James wrote an interest story about Egyptian gods, shifter cats and a girl caught in the middle of an ancient war. The characters were all unique and each of out guardians was extremely hot, sexy and deliciously tempting, personally I liked Hunter. I'll take the cheeky Australian any day.
I haven't been interested in Egyptian mythology before this book. Tate did an amazing job with the storyline. This is a very intriguing story. Shifters, gods, goddesses, and demigods to name a few species. Cleo is the female main character and she is amazing. Her 3 shifters are sexy and will protect Cleo at any cost. Lots of adventure, steamy scenes, and plot twists. This does end in a cliffhanger. •••••• I highly recommend this book/series! •••••• ~~ I have Kindle Unlimited, and I used that service to read this book. ~~
This is honestly suck an amazing start to a series. Cleo is an awesome MC and I love her attitude and verbal vomit. The guys are all fun in unique ways too. I totally squealed with delight at the adorable hug moment between Cleo and Raze. There's definitely going to be some tension there in the future but I'm excited to see what happens.
As always with Tate James, the writing is smart, witty, and unexpected. Seriously the twists in this book are incredible, right to the last page! I'm so excited for more of this series!
I'm tired of cats.... a phrase I never thought I'd say. This book was ok. I like the story line but the author used the word cats was too much. "Jesus Christ supercats" and "holy cats" are just some of the examples. I understand shes a cat lover and all but come on. This is book 1 in the series and honestly I'm not sure if I'll pick up another one. I do love RH books and was really excited for that aspect but it didn't live up to my expectations. 2.5/5 ⭐ #tatejames #feralmagic #cats #reverseharem
