Nina Jones returned to her home town of Huntingvale following the death of her adopted mother, Bea. Nina now has the task of settling the estate which she hopes won’t take too long. When Nina receives a letter that Bea has left for her she is curious as to what is in it, but then she discovers there are five letters in all and Nina must open one each week. In those letters, Nina will learn things about her life, but how will Nina react to certain things that she discovers in the letters.

Being back at the Riverstone Ridge family farm leaves Nina with mixed emotions because this is a place she ran away from years ago and never thought she would come back. Logan Steele was a person Nina hoped to avoid, but it was wishful thinking on her part. He was her past and that's where she wanted him to stay, but will that be possible when they see one another again.

When Nina discovers dark family secrets she feels her world has been turned upside down, but with her emotions running high will Nina be able to open up to Logan the one person who she knows will be there for her.

Riverstone Ridge by Aussie author Mandy Margo is a well written story which I thoroughly enjoyed. I honestly thought when I first started this book it was just going to be a romance, but it was so much more than that and I’m so pleased I picked this one up. A truly captivating and heartwarming story which I highly recommend.

‘Riverstone Ridge – the place that gave life to the past she tried so hard to forget.’

Bestselling Australian Author Mandy Magro, who has now penned her fourteenth feature novel, returns with a new romantic suspense tale, titled Riverstone Ridge. The past, the present and the future of lead protagonist Nina Jones is defined by long held secrets, which unveil as the book makes its emotional journey. Riverstone Ridge proved to be the perfect weekender read, ideal for the upcoming Christmas break.

Teenagers make mistakes and for Nina Jones, the heroine of Riverstone Ridge, Nina has made a pretty big one. With no choice but to flee her home town, the site of her mistake, Nina has been haunted by her past for many years. When Nina’s adoptive mother Bea passes away, Nina realises she must now confront the demons of her past and return home to Huntingvale. Not only is Nina faced with the mounting grief surrounding the loss of the only mother figure she has known, she must also make a decision about her family home. As Nina makes this tough decision, she works through a set of letters left by Bea. Each of these five letters provides an essential link to the past, a time Nina would rather forget. Another difficult part of Nina’s homecoming is facing her former boyfriend, Logan Steele. Logan is one hurt man, wading through a pit of grief and loss, following a tragic accident that took away his loved ones. Now Nina’s return forces him to move on with his life and slowly Logan learns to open his heart again. However, a number of suspect events and mysterious incidents occur, threatening Nina’s life. Logan must get to the bottom of these dangerous events, before someone is seriously hurt. While for Nina, she faces the fight of her life, she must finally reveal her heartbreaking past secret to the man she loves.

If you are looking for a solid rural romance with a line of suspense, Mandy Magro is the person for the job. This author has penned no less than fourteen novels, all with elements of love, suspense and romance, which are set to an authentic rural stage. I always know where I stand with Mandy Magro, she delivers an engaging narrative, well developed characters, strong country based settings and plenty of page sizzle. Rivertstone Ridge, Magro’s latest, is no exception!

We first meet the leading lady of this new tale as a teenager. Nina makes an ill-fated choice as a reckless teenager. This incident has long term implications for Nina and her loved ones. I could sympathise with Nina early on, we all make mistakes, and Magro helps us to see that Nina is only human, she has a price to pay for her behaviour in the past. In the present, Nina is just as appealing. I cared for Nina and I felt her pain over the loss she experiences of her adoptive mother. We are privy to both Nina’s inner thoughts and her love interest, Logan Steele, through the narrative format applied by Magro. I enjoyed getting to know both these characters and the narrative structure helps us to develop a good picture of the lives of both these protagonists.

Within Riverstone Ridge, Magro explores the depth of emotion and the differing experiences of the grief, in the wake of tragic loss. My heart went out to Logan, the hero of this tale, when his sad past is revealed to the reader. Logan was such a genuine man and I sincerely wished for him to experience happiness again. Likewise, the female lead of this novel, also goes through the motions of the grief process following the loss of her adoptive mother. Magro’s sincere treatment of the bereavement process makes Riverstone Ridge an emotional read.

Emotions also come in the form of the second chance romance that sparks between Nina and Logan, upon Nina’s return home. There are a few complications and reservations for these characters to endure. However, when they finally get their act together, there are some hot and heavy scenes. Magro definitely turns up the heat factor in this department!

Another part of Riverstone Ridge that I appreciated was the application of a collection of letters penned by Bea to Nina. These letters provide a window into the soul of this woman, tormented by difficult secrets and a heartbreaking past. Linked to these letters are the two central mysteries, providing a hint of suspense to the unfolding story. Magro unveils key details pertaining to the truth of these mysteries in the latter stages of her novel. These two mysteries definitely carried me along and the process of unlocking both these secrets kept me engaged.

As we have witnessed in all of Mandy Magro’s previous novels, Magro’s attention to detail in relation to her setting is always fantastic. In Riverstone Ridge, Magro displays her true affinity for Australia’s unique country landscapes, with her focus on drawing out the special features of Queensland’s rural district and the fictional town of Huntingvale. Magro definitely plunges her readers deep into this provocative rural landscape and it was a joy to experience these aspects of the book.

Magro sets everything back in order by the close of the novel, secrets from the past are aired, resolutions are made, and a tragedy brings the characters of this novel closer together. Love, romance and family dominates the close of Riverstone Ridge, reminding the reader that these are the things that make the world go round! I would happily recommend this novel to enthusiasts of the rural romance genre and readers of Australian contemporary fiction.

So, I live on acreage between Cairns and Mareeba which is around where Magro also lives and [sort of] set this novel, and why I was eager to give it a go. However, unfortunately, it just wasn’t my cup of tea.

I think my biggest issue with the book is that it lacks plot. I’m afraid nothing really substantial happens which really affected any enjoyment I might have gained from reading it.

Our hero and heroine, Logan and Nina, were childhood friends and just-the-once lovers before Nina moved to Brisbane to live. When Bea, who brought Nina up as her own daughter, passes away Nina returns to Bea’s far north Queensland property. There, Nina receives a letter every week for four weeks from Bea, explaining some of her family secrets along with encouraging Nina to stay on and live at Riverstone Ridge.

The secrets, unfortunately, were very cliched (and kind of ridiculous in this modern age) and I guessed them pretty much from the start. I was actually crossing my fingers, hoping I might be proved incorrect and there’d be some special twist in the letters but, alas, it was not to be.

Riverstone Ridge is being marketed as a romantic suspense but the suspense/mystery part was way too light on for my liking. Seriously, it was a couple of pages at the most and this made me slightly frustrated. A bit of extra plot or storyline here and the book might have worked for me.

The conflict keeping Nina and Logan apart was also weak. There was a lot of navel gazing by the pair in amongst a lot of ‘I really think he/she is hot’ thoughts. I admit, by the 60 percent mark I was starting to skim.

The setting is mostly authentic, especially when I compare it to Candice Fox’s ridiculous portrayal of the far north in Crimson Lake. The local setting wasn't enough for me though.

Sorry, maybe 2 out of 5

Set in North Queensland, Riverstone Ridge is a rural romance with an element of suspense from bestselling author, Mandy Magro.

“I do think it’s high time you knew the truth, about me, about your past, and perhaps it will open doors to a future you never imagined possible.”

Nearly twenty years after Nina Jones left her hometown, certain that she’d never be able to return, the last wish of her beloved adoptive mother, Bea, draws her back to Riverstone Ridge to face the secrets she left behind.
Bea has arranged that Nina will receive a letter each week, hoping that the missives will allow Nina reconnect with her love of Riverstone Ridge, and perhaps the boy next door she never forgot.

Riverstone Ridge explores a number of themes including love, romance, family, truth, and loss. I thought the author’s examination of grief and the ways in which people react differently was particularly thoughtful and tender.

The ‘second chance’ romance between Nina and Logan Steele, now the town’s police officer who has experienced his own devastating loss, is emotional and passionate. The narrative occasionally shifts between their perspectives so their intense attraction to, and feelings about, one another are crystal clear, and I found their connection appealing and believable.

There are two main secrets that create suspense in Riverstone Ridge, both of which take almost the whole length of the book to be revealed. One is quite sinister, placing Nina unknowingly in the path of a man seeking revenge. I thought these threads were well paced and enhanced the story, surprising me with the twists they offered.

Magro’s writing is very descriptive, be it of people, emotions, places, or things. I again loved Magro's distinctly Australian settings which draws on her own experience and knowledge of the land. Her depiction of the landscape is especially evocative, and I found it easy to visualise Riverstone Ridge and it’s surrounds.

An emotive and enjoyable novel, Riverstone Ridge is an engaging story of love and suspense.

Riverstone Ridge by author Mandy Magro captures tragedy, suspense, heartache and second chances all in one read. A story with some stand out characters and moments that will pull at the heart strings. Readers cannot help but be caught up in the escapades, memories and dream moments of Logan and Nina. Tangled webs throughout the narrative that held more than one story arc. Another good story by Ms Magro.

My wife likes writing Letters To The Editor. For one such letter she was awarded the Letter Of The Week. The prize was a copy of this book. I appreciated the author's descriptions of the Queensland country side. Even after nearly 20 years there remain many secrets yet to be revealed.

This is a fabulous story it has everything that a romance reader looks for, a little suspense uncovering secrets that had been kept for many years and a gorgeous second chance romance that had me cheering Nina and Logan on, it is moving and emotional and the setting is wonderful, it was really hard to put this one down once I had started it.

Nina Jones grew up on Riverstone Ridge a farm just outside of the small north Queensland town of Huntingvale, she knew she was adopted and loved her Aunty Bea the woman that had bought her up, but at the age of seventeen her life changed and Nina ran to start a new life with secrets held tight, now twenty years later the passing of her beloved Bea has bought her home and Bea has left a weekly letter over four weeks to help her decide which direction her future should take, there is a lot to take in and there is also her neighbour Logan the other person who had her heart.

Logan Steele always had feelings for Nina but he went to university and Nina to Brisbane for twenty years, Logan became a police officer and moved back to Huntingvale married and managed to keep going through a tragedy, but when Nina returns to Riverstone Ridge his heart soars and finally he can look to the future that is if Nina can open up with what she has learnt about the past and open up her heart to love.

This is a fast paced story that is beautifully written, I loved Logan and Nina what these two had gone through must have hurt badly but the strength they show had me smiling, there were tears and smiles throughout this story, the emotions flowing from the pages as MS Magro bought the characters to life. This is one that I highly recommend, it will stay with me for a long time to come, thank you.

Riverstone Ridge follows the life of Nina, a woman who loses her much loved adoptive mother, Bea. When Bea passes Nina returns to the small town she grew up in and must face her fears, the tragedies of the past and uncover family secrets. Her world is turned upside down.

Nina is a beautiful protagonist. I really enjoyed her character; her strength and determination. Whilst dealing with grief, Nina finds romance from her past. Logan, local police officer knows grief all too well and provides comfort to his friend. Magro writes with sincerity and allows the reader to feel the characters' pain. Their grief is not brushed over and the characters connect due to their past, present and pain.

I love that Bea left letters for Nina to read. Due to her awareness of her illness she was able to do this, which is lovely.

I did feel the amount of drama in one story was a little too much for me, most likely due to focusing on my own grief lately. I could have read about Bea and Logan and feel it would have been an enjoyable novel without the additional mystery. The characters were well developed and the small town vibe had a lovely feel.

I would recommend reading this romance novel, as the writing is enjoyable.

⭐⭐⭐.5

Riverstone Ridge, set in far north Queensland, perfectly showcases author Mandy Magro’s exceptional knowledge of the flora and fauna of this area. The setting is exquisitely described over and over through this story, bringing readers right into the location and almost able to hear a possum running over the tin roof nearby. For me this was the absolute winning aspect of this story, though this is a rural romance, a story of second chances for protagonists Nina Jones and Logan Steele as they learn to love again after twenty years apart. With secrets unfolding and hints of danger throughout there was plenty to keep me turning the pages of this gorgeous story.

Riverstone Ridge is a lovely book - it is a feel good book with wonderful descriptions of Australian countryside, a hero to swoon for who is gorgeous and thoughtful - what more could Nina want??? He loves her, she loves him and all the parts of the mystery fit neatly together: Nina knows who her parents are and all about their tragedy, plus a few more tragedies as well; the bad guy is dead leaving Nina, Logan, Brianna Rose and William to live happily ever after.

I would recommend this book to readers who are not cynical and looking for more than a sweet tale that is beautifully written and resolves all issues with a perfect ending. I gave Riverstone Ridge four stars.

Riverstone Ridge is a story packed with emotion, regrets, tragedy, and finally hope. The author has penned a truly passionate account of life in a small town, the demons that often follow us through the years, and how a common goal can bring two broken souls together to mend and find love. I found myself drawn to these characters and the inner turmoil they battled, along with a mysterious foe, to find their HEA. Riverstone Ridge is a heartfelt, captivating and satisfying book, and look forward to reading more titles by Ms Magro.

Riverstone Ridge is my favorite Mandy Magro book to date. I didn't think she could write any better, but she just did.

After the adopted Nina Jones fled Riverstone Ridge 20 years ago she never returned until the death of her adopted mother. She returned to decide whether she wanted to keep the farm and homestead or get it ready for sale. The deal is she has to stay for 5 weeks to receive a letter each week from her deceased adopted mother which revealed hidden family secrets.

Also next door is her first love Logan Steele who has had a rough time of his own since she fled town all those years ago.

What will she chose to do?

𝚁𝚒𝚟𝚎𝚛𝚜𝚝𝚘𝚗𝚎 𝚁𝚒𝚍𝚐𝚎 is only the second book I've read of Mandy Magro's, but I know that it's possibly going to be my favourite! It's just so perfect, shippy and full of love ❤️

Nina and Logan grew up together on neighbouring properties in Far North Queensland. These pair were destined for one another, until Nina fled her home when she was just seventeen.

For the next twenty years, she's been living in Brisbane. When a phone call informing her that her adoptive mother Bea had passed away, Nina is forced to return to Riverstone Ridge. Here, she must face her past when love is rekindled and revelations are made.

Nina has a habit of running when the going gets tough- this time, will she be able to stick it out to finally find happiness?

The rekindling of Nina and Logan's relationship is such a slow burn and full of angst, but it's totally worth the frustration! These two are so well suited for one another and Logan is so overprotective of his girl. I have a soft spot for sensitive men who are a figure of authority and Officer Logan Steele is now on that list!!

If you're a newbie to Australian rural fiction/romance or already a fan, make sure you put this splendid novel on your list to read!

A massive 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟/5

Riverstone Ridge
by
Mandy Magro

Mandy Magro’s, Riverstone Ridge was my sixth read of this author’s works and as with Ms Magro’s works, it is set in Far North Queensland.

As 17-year-olds are prone to do Nina slipped out her window to go to a party while she was grounded. A car pulls over and she is offered a ride. When she declines, however, the sleazy driver becomes insistent and she is only saved when her high school crush also pulls up to see if all is okay. A month or so later she leaves Huntingvale, for city life, without so much as a goodbye to school friends. Only her adoptive mother Bea knows why.

Around two decades later Nina receives word that Bea has passed away. Upon her return to Riverstone Ridge and Huntingvale, Nina again meets up with her high school crush and now the local law enforcer Logan. Bea has tasked Nina with the sale of Riverstone Ridge if Nina does not want to keep it.

The only questions to be answered are, will widower and local policeman Logan admit they have feelings for each other and what information has Bea left in her five weekly letters, from the grave, being delivered by the family lawyer. And, finally, will Nina sell Riverstone Ridge, or will she find something that will keep her in Huntingvale.

I rated Riverstone Ridge as an enjoyable three-star audiobook.

At the time of writing my review other Goodreads readers had awarded Riverstone Ridge
an average of 4.20 stars, from 174 ratings and 32 reviews.
