The History of Christmas will take you on a journey from Christ’s birth in Bethlehem, through Roman times and the Middle Ages, into the Reformation and then the Victorian era. You will finally touch down in our modern–day Christmas with all the things that make us think of this wonderful season – decorations, presents, delicious food. But as you take this amazing journey, you will discover the surprising twists and turns that Christmas has taken over the years. Come alongside the men and women from the past as they try to figure out how Christmas should, or should not, be celebrated. Let the story of Jesus remind you of the real reason we celebrate at this time of year – that the Son of God was born as a baby and then lived and died to save sinners. As you think about Christmas may you be drawn closer to Christ and inspired to show His love to those around you. Extra Scripture Readings; Discussion Questions; Recipes and Activities.
This book is detailed. It is a nonfiction book that shares the truth of how Christmas has been and is celebrated with some explanations to help you grasp it.
Includes a devotional, recipes, and other connections to experience Christmas looking at Christ, but also as others in history have done.
It appeals to any reader- who wants to know about this- adults and children alike.
Beautiful, helpful, and insightful journey through the ages of how the world has celebrated Christmas. Caitlin enjoyed my reading a chapter a night to her and I look forward to reading it to our littles when they get older. I will definitely come back to this one again!
I really enjoyed reading about the development/history of the celebration of Christmas around the world, the differing traditions, and the foods, and it is beautifully illustrated.
I recently received this beautiful little book for review. The History of Christmas 2000 Years of Faith, Fable and Festivity by @heather_winslow_lefebvre It is so well written, interesting for adults and at the same time simple enough for an older child to understand and enjoy. It would be a great Christmas family devotion resource with scripture references, discussion questions, and recipes that coordinate and enhance the reading. If you are looking for a last minute Christmas gift this would be a great choice!
This was fascinating! The kids and I read it as part of our morning time with school for the past few weeks. We loved learning about the history of Christmas and how celebrations and traditions have become what they are now. We plan to read it at least every couple of years.
