Reckless

Rate this book
He's a walking contradiction... Cam Strickland, one of the four owners of Pier 70 Marina, has earned the nickname his friends gave him years ago. Reckless. Sure. By definition. When it comes to fun, Cam hasn't yet met a challenge he wouldn't accept. In other areas, he's likely far too cautious for his own good. He's his complete opposite... Gannon Burgess, CEO of Burgess Entertainment, one of the top video game producers in the world, finds himself smack in the middle of the last place he would ever expect to be. But Gannon only thinks he is out of his element standing in the small marina office. Then... he meets Cam. Rumor is opposites attract. Sparks fly when this sexy, tattooed bad boy comes face to face with this buttoned-up gamer in glasses. Can Cam and Gannon push one another out of their comfort zones? Or -- thanks to the events that have shaped their lives -- will the time they spend together prove to be just another reckless adventure? This one involving their hearts.

Cam is 32 and part owner of a Service Marina,Pier 70.He works hard,is a bit of an andrenaline junky and is not afraid to take risks. However, when it comes to his love life he's much more cautious.

Gannon is 36,a Ceo of a software development company and a video game producer.
He is a workaholic, hardly ever having any down time(his choice) and hasn't dated in about 2 years. He's a hot geek and definitely not reckless.

Gannon's best friend and assistant,Milly organizes a team bonding exercise with Gannon and some other employees at Pier 70 and this is where the two men first meet.
The attraction between them is instant, despite them being the opposite of each other.

Cam is more reluctant to get involved, particularly due to a traumatic event in his past.
Gannon makes the first move and is prepared to take risks with Cam even though it's not in his nature.

There's no doubt the Author has created two sexy as hell characters in these two and they do work together.
I just found myself skimming and this book didn't pull me in like I thought it would. At times I thought they were both behaving like teenagers.

Overall,though,an enjoyable M/M romance...

"I love you, you know?"
"I love you, too."
"This won't be easy."
"Probably not, but it'll be worth it."

I liked this, but unfortunately nothing really wowed me.

Cam is part owner of a thriving boating business. He lost his mother when he was young and the circumstances of her passing have left a devastating emotional scar. Cam refuses to get close to anyone for fear of losing them just as quickly and tragically. His fear has kept him from ever having a serious relationship.

Gannon is a successful entrepreneur. He owns a popular gaming business that consumes his whole life. Rejected by his parents and family for being gay, he's devoted his whole life to being successful and making his company the best that it can be. This means there is little time for a social life, let alone a love life.

The two meet, and the attraction cannot be denied. Cam is the more skittish one in this relationship, but Gannon has found someone that has awaken him. Someone that has taken up space in his mind and heart...a place that has been solely occupied by work.

Cam likes that nerdy Gannon has a possessive and aggressive side. He finds himself completely consumed by thoughts of the man. Maybe it's time to finally start thinking about a serious relationship...something he can definitely see happening with Gannon. But what happens when an aspect of Gannon's job brings all of Cam's worst fears to the forefront? Will Cam's fear win? Can they find a way to make this relationship work?

This was a solid read for me. The story was decent and as can be expected with a Nicole Edwards book, the steam was satisfying. She really built it up in the beginning with both guys wanting to take the relationship slow...wanting to feel each other out. And oh boy, there's was some wonderful feeling each other before the main event.

But I think that the blurb and title are a bit misleading. Is Cam reckless like the title and his nickname suggest? Nope, not really. He's an outdoorsy and adventuress person...but he's nowhere near reckless. I feel like NE wanted to go down that route, but just didn't fully commit to it.

Also, the opposite attract aspect felt very weak to me. The only thing really opposite about these two were their appearances. Cam was tattooed and pierced (let me add that those piercings are in all the RIGHT places) whose wardrobe mostly consisted of cargo shorts and flip flops. Gannon had no ink or piercings, wore glasses and his wardrobe was mostly dress shirts and polos. Again, something else that I think the author wanted to highlight but didn't really commit to.

There were a couple of times that the book felt like an information dump for future books and I didn't like the contrived drama with Roan. It felt completely unnecessary. However, I'm unbelievably intrigued by Hudson and Teague! Oh man, there's some serious potential for greatness there! I'm on pins and needles for their book.

The ending was satisfying, if not a bit rushed , and I thought the epilogue was sweet. Overall, a decent read and a solid start to a new series.

*sigh*

Objectively, this is probably not a 1-star book; it didn't commit any major Crimes Against Literature and none of the characters did anything horribly offensive. But... that doesn't mean it was good or that I enjoyed it.

Right from the outset, I found Gannon nondescript and a little dull. I liked that he wasn't your typically shy gamer geek, but there wasn't a whole lot else to recommend him. He wasn't really sexy or adventurous or outgoing or funny or sweet or... anything. He was just sort of... there. Occasionally he'd get a little authoritative in the bedroom and that'd spark my interest for a few seconds, but other than that, he was pretty forgettable.

Still, I suppose being forgettable is better than being actively irritating. Cam's hard-to-get/hot-and-cold routine just did NOT work for me. I like a bad boy as much as the next girl, but Edwards failed to establish - or, at least failed to convince me - why Cam was worth enduring the games and mixed messages. If I was in Gannon's shoes in the first third of this novel, I would have bailed so hard after the first date I could have kept the Titanic afloat.

I also thought that Edwards made some confusing plot choices, especially at the end of the novel. For instance, she spent a considerable amount of effort building up the tension between Cam and Roan over Cam's relationship with Gannon only to let the whole thing die with barely a whimper. Why bother to build up a conflict if it isn't going to amount to anything in the end? It just doesn't make a lot of sense. And don't even get me started on that ! Laaaame!

The writing was also repetitive (making the book far longer than it needed to be) and weirdly feminine. Just because your characters have stilted conversations and bro silences doesn't give you a free pass to make their inner dialogue seem like two tween girls circa 1993 sighing over JTT on the cover of Tiger Beat.

description

But what really moved this book from a 2-star to a 1-star rating for me was the fact that somewhere along the lines I lost track of the number of times I thought, "Is it over yet? Can I read something else now?"

No, Russell Crowe. No, I was not.

This was a slow read. What I mean by that is that it wasn't something that completely held my attention for a long period of time. Hence the slow read. It took me longer than usual to finish it. It wasn't a bad book. It's just that there wasn't a lot going on. I liked both of the guys and I liked them together. But for some reason I just couldn't get into the story as much as I wanted to.

I enjoyed the slow build up in the relationship. I liked that they took their time getting to know each other. It was torture for both them and me. But they were scorching hot when they finally came together. Figuratively and literally. *wink*

Now who I am intrigued by is Hudson and Teague. I am reading about Dare and Noah at the moment and the little glimpses I got in the this book and the current one I'm reading has me wanting Hudson and Teague's story pretty badly. I think it'll probably the best of the series.

Reckless is book 1 in a new all m/m series by Nicole Edwards.

The series centers around Pier 70, a full service marina, owned by Cam Strickland and his friends, Roan Gregory, Dare Davis, and Teague Carter. Cam’s father provided the seed money to start the marina and this retired police officer also offers these men a father figure offering advice and humor throughout the book.

Reckless is a wonderful book 1, painting a picture of four friends and the life they have built. Book 1 is the story of Cam and his journey to a happy he never imagined for himself. A happy with Gannon Burgess, a multimillion dollar software developer; a man who when the reader meets him is all work and no play.

Gannon finds himself at Pier 70 when Milly Holcomb, Gannon’s assistant, best friend and really his only family makes the executive decision that Gannon needs to plan some team bonding. She plans an outing on the water, yes at Pier 70.

It is clear to the reader from the first encounter that Cam and Gannon have a deep attraction. I love how the author made this connection feel different from anything either man have experienced before. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the epic banter these two develop, from the first meeting on, they push, they made each other smile, and in the end they captured my heart.

Gannon though in appearance is what some would call nerdy, is a true business man at heart and I loved how this played out in his pursuit of Cam. Gannon knows what he wants and he wants Cam. Why Cam is hesitant is rooted deep and the slow reveal of this from Cam to Gannon and to the reader made for an engaging read.

As these men slowly give into this attraction, this story heats up, and in true Ms. Edwards fashion, she weaves steam with emotion crafting sex scenes that so suit the characters involved.

The authors also does a wonderful job building connections between these characters and creating each with his own personality.

I adored Dare, he was funny and witty and often so insightful. I can’t wait to witness to him falling in love in a subsequent book.

Roan, this poor man is struggling with his family and with his emotions, I am looking forward to witnessing his healing and finding love.

And that leaves Teague, the young playboy who seems to have connection to one of the marina’s employees; Hudson!!!… And speaking of characters, I am dying to know more about Hudson, the marina’s boat mechanic, the reader can so feel there is something between him and Teague. The scene with them together was so well done with so much tension and underlying energy that you can feel the tension rolling off both men!

Cam’s past is a painful one, one that may end up costing him Gannon… I adored how Ms. Edwards dealt with Cam’s demons. They were not glossed over, the issue that arises from them made me love Milly even more, and allows the reader to see that Cam and Gannon were willing to take help to be together.

Yes, I know this is vague but I think this is best experienced as the author laid out. So please read the book.

I am so excited for this series, all these men are now characters I want to have a happy so please Ms. Edwards write fast because Pier 70 is a can’t wait for the next book series for me.

I was beyond thrilled to see that book 2 Fearless, now being written, is Dare’s story!!!!!! And I am anxiously awaiting Teague in Speechless (wait til you see why this book is named this) and Roan in Restless .

This is truly a drop everything, must read series for me and these men have burrowed their way into my soul!

I really enjoyed reading this "opposites attract" story.

Cam (32) is partial owner of a marina. He's a bit of a wild one. He really loves his extreme sports and he's got a bucket list he's working on.

Gannon (36) is the CEO of a multimillion software company. They mostly develop games. His time is mostly spend working. He's a nerd....and damn I love me some sexy nerds !!

 photo 3787dff94eb4ae2840a8507df56931c4_zpsdv4zhbbf.jpg

They meet when Milly, Gannon's best friend and assistent insists on organising an outing for all employees, to boost their spirits. She thinks going out on a boat is an awesome idea, so they end up at the marina to make plans.

These two men are immediatly attracted to one another, but but a bit carefull and hesitant in their approach. Cam normally doesn't do long distance relationships and Gannon has a fear for rejection. Still it's Gannon who takes the first step. I seriously loved Gannon...he was awesome !

Now Cam...I liked him, but I found him a bit selfish and I didn't like all his reasons for taking things slow. As for the long distance relationship.....I didn't think an hour drive was that long, plus Gannon kept driving to the marina and he didn't nag about it. I also didn't care for the fact that Cam had so much trouble with Gannon traveling for his work. I understood were he was coming from and that he had his fears, but I found his reaction to it to be a bit extreme.

Once these two get it on...and it takes a bit, because they want to take it slow....they are very very HAWT !

 photo 13830141_zpsl7odzkqf.gif

There isn't a lot of angst in this one. The guys are both out and proud, the onkly issues they really have are personal ones that they have to learn to deal with.

Like I said I really enjoyed it, but I had some issues with their issues...lol. It's also pretty heavy on the insta-love !! I'm very curious about the next book....which will about Dare. Definitely gonna read that one :)

3,5 - 4 stars (I will round it up, because I have a little crush on Gannon !!

“That’s part of loving someone, Cam. You accept them for who they are, faults and all. And you forgive them.”

I believe this is my first book by Nicole Edwards and all the reviews that I've seen so far had always raved about her writing and stories. I'm not going to lie, I was a bit let down. I felt like I was reading a different version of a book than everyone else.

While I did love the chemistry between Cam and Gannon, I felt like there was something missing. I can't explain it exactly but I needed that 'wow' factor which wasn't here. The plot was well thought out and I enjoyed all the secondary characters.

"I’d learned that even though some people claimed to love you for you, sometimes the version of you they loved wasn’t real. It was merely the version they could live with. And it only took one revelation for them to turn their backs.”

I will give Nicole another try probably when I'm in the mood for it.

I bought this little beautiful thing a long time ago that I had totally forgotten it .. I should be ashamed of myself! lol

“I love you, you know?” Cam smiled.
“I love you, too.”
“This won't be easy.”
“Probably not,” Gannon agreed. “But it'll be worth it.”

I just one to hug the hell out of this book, that have much I loved it. There is not one thing I would change in this book, I loved everything from start to finish.

If it was not because I had the next one in the series, I would definitely start reading this one again.

I don't have a lot to say about this one. The writing and the editing were both solid, I enjoyed the characters, and the smexy times was quite hot. I had quite a few "Friends" moments while reading this though! After dating just a few weeks, and after a fight, Cam And Roan . Maybe I watch too much Friends?

I have to wonder if there was any hidden meaning behind the owner of a game development company being named Gannon, who was actually a boss in the original Legend of Zelda game. I've never seen that name used much of anywhere else, so if this was a nod to that game, great job! If not, sad, but it made me smile anyway.

This is going to be one of my favourite series. I can see it in my future.

Really enjoyed the slow burn between these two. It was something else and I could appreciate the feel around it. I love both the MC’s. I love the idea of having to get the stories behind all the friends eventually.

It was a great read and though I keep it short and sweet it deserves a great review which it will get from tons of fabulous people out there who know their stuff around creating fabulous reviews.
I’ll throw my voice in with those guys and girls. LOVED the read and who can’t love Cam and Gannon? Hmmmmm and let’s not forget those sexy piercings.

Oh how Nicole Edwards can write some mm romance! This book surprised me. The characters did not turn out to be who I thought they would be in the beginning (not a bad thing, just different). While I really enjoyed this book, the world wasn't my favorite for whatever reason. I may read Speechless because I'm super intrigued by those MCs, bu will probably pass on the other two.

4/2022 - This is my third time reading this (that I’ve recorded) so I’m going to leave my rating as it is. However, I didn’t really enjoy it that much this time around. (Maybe 2 1/2 to 3 stars) Cam and Gannon hardly talked. There were a lot of internal thoughts, but not a lot of interaction other than their physical attraction until the second half. By then, they were already thinking they were in love with each other. I didn’t understand this since they didn’t have any in depth conversations to get to know each other.

There were several parts where we got information about other characters written from their POVs. For example, we got parts from Hudson and Teague. They will be the couple in book three. We also got several parts in Roan’s POV. That’s all well and good if there had been any development between the two MAIN characters. But there wasn’t. Those chapters/sections would have been better spent with more relationship development between Cam and Gannon.

I don’t feel that this lived up to the quality that I am used to reading from Nicole Edwards.

Two workaholics falling in love......
Pier 70 is a new all MM series from the woman that writes the hottest chemistry between characters in all of Romance in my opinion. While others can write sexy time scenes that get you hot and bothered, Nicole is able to tempt and tease you with this slow dance of introducing you to these characters that when they collide, burst from the pages with a spark and fire you will not be able to resist. Cam and Gannon are no exception. You think they'd be similar in some ways, have things in common that draw them together, but really the only thing that makes them anything but complete opposites is their drive to work- ALL the time. Well, and their almost instant attraction to one another. (HOT!!) Gannon lacks the ability to trust people, Cam is big on trust. Gannon wears a suit and tie and climbs his ivory tower of power every day. Cam glides across the water in his boat, catering to tourists on chartered rides. He is big on the outdoors, loves the rush of all things adventurous, while Gannon and his video games stay inside and especially far away from anything related to water outside a shower. When his best friend Milly pushes him to go on an outing with his employees hosted by the boys from Pier 70, things change for Gannon and Cam is thrown right into the mix of his suddenly topsy turvy life....

The two men struggle to admit and handle their feelings with one another amidst the demons they are beating back from the past. This is a great read, full of happy, sad, funny, angsty, dramatic and plenty of the steamy moments we have come to expect from a Nicole Edwards series. You will stay engaged with the outcome as well as concerned about the two guys dealing with their trust issues and overcoming their past struggles on their journey to being truly happy with someone else. I am excited to see where the rest of this series leads. 5 stars ~ Kellie, Eye Candy Bookstore

This is the first book of the series so much of the novel is getting us aquatinted with the men who work at and own Pier 70 Marina. Cam, Roan, Dare and Teague are all close friends and all gay. This is Cam and Gannon's love story peppered with bits of everyone else. Most of the storyline takes place at the marina with its gorgeous lake scenery, which is great for skinny dipping and siting back while drinking a beer. The dress code is swim trucks and flip-flops.

Gannon is from a totally different world than Cam. He's a gamer and owns a world wide gaming company. Gannon is not so big on the outdoors and even has a fear of water. He's all about the office life so much that he hasn't taken the time to date or hook up with a man in some time.

Reckless is Cam's nickname. He's earned it by always pushing his boundaries with tattoos, piercings, extreme sports and such. Now that he's in his 30's he's not looking for one-night stands. He's more about taking it slow.

These two are not each others usual type at all, but there's an attraction they have in each other that can't be denied. Both are also at the stage where they are looking for something more.

I recommend this book for those wanting a romance. There are super hot sex scenes, but mostly it's just about the characters' day-to-day happenings. There are issues, which must be overcome, but it’s mostly a smooth ride.

The first book is Cam and Gannon’s story, CEO of Burgess Entertainment, one of the top video game producers in the world, two alpha males who both have their own demons to fight.

Loved the story, it’s an entertaining, hot and sexy read without any angst, and an excellent start to a new series.

I became instantly attached to the men at Pier 70 and can’t wait for the next book of the series.

Ok I loved this book ! The focus was on Reckless Cam who loves water and all things sport & Gannon the nerdy hot owner of his own video gaming business ... These guys overcome distance, fears and challenges to find joy and happiness and the journey was HOT ...The supporting characters were great and I can't wait to see who is going to be the focus of book 2. I love how Nicole weaves characters so well into stories that we get a subtle taster for more ... Nicole Edwards is such a rock star of an author. I didn't move for the whole day and absorbed this book ❤️

What a emotionally charged, sizzling read. Nicole Edwards has done it again !!

Cam Strickland and Gannon Burgess are total opposites. Cam is the tattooed, out doors, adrenaline junkie who has rightfully earned the nickname that he has been dubbed with "RECKLESS". Gannon is total Alpha Nerd. He is CEO of a video game production company. One thing they do have is chemistry but can they overcome their fears and the obstacles and find a way to coincide in their two very different worlds?

If you like hot steamy M/M Romance Reckless is a must read.

I totally loved this book. This was an amazing read that had me hooked from the moment that I started reading. It moved along at an amazing pace, has characters that will grab you, that you cannot help but fall in love with and a story that will grab you and not let you go until you finish the very last word. This must be read, there is no doubt about it and once you do, you will be hooked on this amazing author.

Expecting from the reviews a dirty, hot story . Instead it was a try at an angsty story that dragged. The same insecurities over and over again and just when you thought there would be more... they were eating somewhere else for supper.

This was a good read, good chemistry between the two main characters, although I did want to knock their heads together come the end, not sure I will be reading the rest at the moment, found myself wanted to just get the book over and done with.
