Documents the life stories of 50 different historical figures from Leif Ericson to Mary McLeod Bethune and how their lives made contributions to the Christian faith of the United States. The people featured vary greatly in backgrounds, professions, and heritages. Also, the sidebars are very helpful to add information about historical sites you can visit today. Great for elementary level. Could be used to supplement existing historical studies.
This is a great children's book for young readers. They learn about some of our country's greatest hereos. They are also taught that these resilient people were inspired by God and had Christian principles that helped shape our country.
I'm embarrassed to admit how much I loved this book as a kid. Three stars is a compromise between the five stars I would have given it when I was 10 and the one star I would give it if I read it today.
This one was a good history intro for young kids. The mini-bios are easy to read but are also pretty limited in scope, given the length and intended audience. I wouldn’t use this as your only history source because a well-rounded approach is so important - but this is a good addition to your American history bookshelf.
Read aloud with my kids during our homeschool study of American history. It was very inspiring, but also glossed over the other realities going on at the time. So I’m glad I had our history books to get a fuller picture.
