Music is my life, my band is my heart and soul, and it’s all falling apart before my eyes.
A plan hatched from desperation as we both watch our careers burn down around us. Dating my best friend’s twin brother, Paris, who just so happens to be a gay icon at the moment seems like the perfect plan. And if we have a little fun along the way, where’s the harm in that? The band is spiraling, his football career is going up in flames, and the more the world falls down around us, the easier it is to get lost in each other.
But are stolen moments during our own busy schedules and hurried kisses hidden behind social media posts the basis for a real relationship, or is this just another thing that’s going to turn to dust in our hands?
**Strike a Chord is the fourth and final book in the Replay series. This series can be read in any order.
K.M.Neuhold has long since been a romance junkie. When she’s not writing she’s reading or spending time snuggling with her husky or her husband. She fell in love with M/M romance last year and hasn’t been able to turn back. There’s nothing she loves more than love in all its forms.
Every few months I reread a favorite series... or a part of a favorite series. K.M. Neuhold's Strike A Chord book #4 from her "Replay series" won the coin toss. All 4 books are always worth a reread.
This four-book series is about the band members of Downward Spiral, sharing their fame and showing how it changed their lives....and not always for the better. Benji has always been the “good one” in the band. He just did his job and never made waves like the others. All he wants to do is go home for Christmas to see his mom and dad and hang out with his best friend, London. What he doesn’t expect though, is for London’s identical twin brother...Paris, cute...I wonder where Rome is. Too bad they weren't triplets:) Sorry, I regress sometimes.
Benji has had a crush on Paris ever since the moment he first saw him trying to open his locker in high school...him being home for the holidays was a big surprise. Paris hasn't had a good year... there was a shoulder injury, which required reconstruction surgery and 10 months later he's still in therapy...and last, but certainly not least, his cheating boyfriend dumps him. London has a bright idea and suggests that Benji and Paris pose as fake boyfriends for publicity reasons and at first, they both say, “no way”. But very soon opportunity opens that door again, and the question becomes; "can we really “fake it”. They both have long time hidden feelings for each other without the other realizing it.
I have given the first 3 books well deserving 5-star ratings, but this one will only get 4, as the ending felt rushed after the big "fake/real boyfriend build up. Overall, K.M. Neuhold is one of my favorite M/M romance authors so I would have been surprised if the story had been anything other than a worthwhile read with wonderful, hot and sexy characters. Maybe it was just knowing that this was the last book in the Replay series that made me want just a wee bit more.
Kyleen rounds off her thoroughly enjoyable Replay series with Benji's friends to lovers romance and it's a cracker.
Benji's the good one, the one who is never any trouble but he's struggling to see what he'll do with his life if Downward Spiral actually do implode and split up.
As with the other books in the series, this one runs at the same time as the romances for the other three band members and we get to see what's happening in their lives from snippets of conversation here.
I loved Benji and Paris and I also loved Paris' twin brother London. He was determined to fix up Paris with Benji and he didn't hide it, there was lots of great banter between him and Benji.
The romance starts off as a fake boyfriend Instagram get back at Paris' ex-boyfriend but it's pretty clear both men have been in love with the other since they were teenagers. It's super sweet and slow burn, even though they hook up with blowjobs, before the feelings start coming into play.
There's sort of flashbacks (but in their heads for brief moments rather than as specific chapters) to when Benji and Paris first met and they help to set the scene for this ultimate friends to lovers romance.
This book wraps up the wonderful Replay series with a romance that's a study in contrast to Lincoln's opener and it works perfectly to bring the band's stories to a close.
I loved it and it ran a good race to become my favourite in the series but ultimately lost out to Jude, Archer and Bennett's Beat Of Their Own Drum.

I have given the first 3 books well deserving 5-star ratings, but this one will only get 4, as the ending felt rushed, and the epilog was disappointing and very short. Overall, K.M. Strike a Chord marks the end of the Replay series. And for the past four books we’ve followed each member of Downward Spiral. We’ve watched (some of) them crash and fall, seen them turn it all around again, finding the lost pieces of themselves – but also the special someone’s that completed them. This time it’s Benji’s turn.
Compared to the rest of the band, his story is way less angsty and he has things under control. For the most part, Benji is worn down to the bone and needs the break that was offered. A break he chooses to spend in his hometown catching up with his best friend London – and his twin brother Paris. The twin brother he’d had a crush on since they were teenagers.
Both Paris and Benji are at a crossroads with their careers, Benji is not hopeful the band can recover and is thinking of other ways to have a career in music. A shoulder injury is keeping Paris from his football career and if it doesn’t heal right it might just put a stop to his playing altogether. Add in a cheating (ex)boyfriend and it all adds up to a mess he rather not think of. To help them both with the public’s opinion they device a fake relationship. A relationship that doesn’t feel fake to either of them – considering they’ve both had a crush on each other for years.
Benji and Paris were refreshing in a way. There was not much angst, sure there were issues but not in the addict/self-harm or trauma kind of way we’ve had in the previous books. It was warm and sweet filled with tension and longing and hoping for something more. These two made sense, they were right for each other. It was never a question if they’d end up together, only when and how they’d get there.
I’m a Kenneth Obi convert. I absolutely loved his narration – or rather performance of this book. I lived in this story while listening and the rest of the world just didn’t exist. I love how he had different voices for all the characters, it made it easy to always know the narrator or speaker and keep track of what was going on in any given moment.
Obi also added much feeling to his performance and made you feel what Benji and Paris did. Especially the longing they had for each other, present day and as teens. Especially from Paris’ side, thinking that Benji and his brother London were a couple and in love. Obi made you feel his pain watching the two of them, wishing it was him instead. Which I also have to give huge credit to Neuhold for. This set up has all the markings for becoming a melodramatic and angst love-triangle with anger and jealousy and resentment. But that never happened here, she never went down that road and I for one will be forever grateful for it.
Strike a Chord was the final instalment in this particular series. However, going by the doors that opened in the end of the book, I wouldn’t be surprised if Neuhold decides to go down the spin-off road. Time will tell.

K.M. Neuhold has released the final book in the Replay series, Strike a Chord, and it focuses on the fourth member of Downward Spiral, pianist Benji Casparian. Benji has always been the one guy that their manager, Archer, has never needed to worry about. He isn’t addicted to drugs like Jude, he doesn’t mutilate his body, nor does he nearly commit suicide over and over like Lincoln. No, the only thing plaguing Benji is the fact that he has always regretted losing contact with Paris, the brother and identical twin of his best friend, London. When the band reaches what might be its final crisis and Archer sends everyone on vacation to regroup, Benji heads home to Ohio and Paris…never suspecting that the two of them will enter into a crazy scheme to put Benji in the limelight rather than his bandmates and they they will rekindle the emotions that Benji and Paris have always buried for each other.
Strike a Chord has all the sexual tension and hot sex one might wish for, while also delivering a beautiful slow burn romance that turns out to be incredibly satisfying.
The fourth book in the Replay series, and for this to flow the way it should, the previous books should be read first. Throughout the series Benji has been the quiet one, the "good" one that doesn't cause any trouble. While the other three members of the band are imploding, Benji is just waiting to find out if they are breaking up or going to continue to make music. He decides to go home while he waits and join his best friend London and London's brother Paris. Paris is Benji's long time crush, but after a failed attempt, Benji felt like he was put straight in the friend zone. Paris' life is taking a dive, his injury means he may be done with his football career, so he went home to Ohio to do his rehab and sulk. When Benji comes home, the two end up becoming fake boyfriends as a publicity stunt, but what happens when the fake starts to feel more real? Can two people that live completely different lives on different sides of the country make something more work for them?
I loved this series! Benji and Paris' story just finishes the whole thing perfectly, and I'm now sad to see them go. With loads of drama, and some super steamy naughty bits, this kept me entertained and I didn't put it down until it was done. I give this 5 stars.
From the beginning of the Replay series we don't really have a lot of information about Benji. All that is about to change! Benji might just be my new favorite character. He's sweet and considerate and so loving. Paris is the twin brother to London, who is best friends with Benji, and has known Benji since their awkward high school days. Benji and Paris are #relationshipgoals! They are literally the cutest together and the way they lift each other up is beyond sweet. If you like rockstars, beach vacations, and happy endings, then this is the book for you!
Will there be a stand alone wedding recap coming later? I’m 100% invested in these men and they’re lives, like a literary stalker. You hit so many scary and realistic scenarios in these stories that it was eat to feel their pain through your words.
This started out really strong for me, and I was 100% there for it, but it dimmed quickly when Benji and Paris agreed to be fake boyfriends and “keep it casual” with a shrug of their shoulders and next to no excitement.
Honestly, were they even actually into each other? These are two men who’d been supposedly pining after each other since the start of high school, but once they got together, everything was very flatline in a way I’m not used to with this author. Then the majority of the book after that they’re rarely in the same city together, etc. which I hate. The relationship didn’t grow on page.
Meh.
Still haven’t been able to read the second book, as KU keeps sending me the third book wrapped in the second book’s cover.
Strike a Chord is book four in the Replay Series. It can be read as a standalone. Benji's band is on the verge breaking up and he's a little lost at what to do. The band takes a break and Benji take that time to reconnect with old friends. London is his best friend. London has a brother Paris. Paris is the guy Benji has always wanted. Paris' career is also on the verge of ending too. There was a misunderstanding between them in the past the had put them in the friends zone. At London's pushing these decide to fake date. They are so much more than fake dating. I was so rooting for these to get their lives on track and also to have a happy ever after.
Good chemistry between Benji and Paris, but the Downward Spiral part of the story wasn't as interesting to me. I seem to remember something about Benji living in Ohio at the end of Jude's book -- it felt a little like an alternate universe thing, like in another time stream Benji and Paris moved in together to be near London. It felt a bit deja vu-ish. I think I might take a break from this author for a while. (BTW, it still bugs me that the cover model isn't blond. She makes a BIG deal out of his hair in both this book and the previous ones in the series.)
I think I liked the last one a little more but still really enjoyed this one. Slightly different take on ‘brother’s best friend’ trope, really refreshing. Loved how supportive London was of everything. Also perfect amount of miscommunication, didn’t get too annoying.
Benji was out of my radar but I was so surprised to fall in love with him and Paris. I just wish they had more time together during the book but I'm happy they have their HEA now
This was a nice conclusion to a pretty interesting series on Rock Stars, their fame and how it can change your life.
Benji has always been the “good one” of the band. He does his job and doesn’t make waves like his other “bad boy band members” Lincoln and Jude do. He and Lando figure that Archer already have his hands full babysitting those two. All he wants is to do is just go home for Christmas to see his mom and dad and hang with his best friend London. What he doesn’t expect though is for London’s identical twin brother (who has been his crush since the moment he first saw him in high school) to be home for the holidays too. Paris has had a very rough year of it. First the NFL star quarterback tears his shoulder out in a game and has to undergo reconstruction surgery and is still in physical therapy 10 months later with no clue what his future looks like. Then his long time boyfriend dumps him. Now he learns that he had been cheating on him too. It’s time to get drunk with his brother to wash away his sorrows. When London makes him join him at a cocktail club he wants to leave and get smashed in a real bar. That is until the masked surprise piano player starts his set. Benji has been it for Paris since he first spotted him at the locker next to his years ago in school. And that kiss Benji gave to him at graduation when he “mistook him” for London, Benji’s boyfriend, has seared his thoughts for years. But when London suggests that Benji and Paris pose as fake boyfriends for publicity reason they both say “no way” at first. However soon enough opportunity opens that door. But can these two men “fake it” when they both have long time hidden feelings for each other without the other realizing it?
I loved these two men and liked that we were given flashbacks of their youth and how their attraction first came to be. The nerdy musician and the star quarterback that both make it huge in the world! My patience was a bit strained after awhile that these two took so long to finally admit about their true feelings, both past and present. And then I felt a bit “cheated” that everything wrapped up so fast when it all came out. I did love that both men were so giving of their time and money to support LGBTQ+ youth. It was great reading this last night with the warm tropical breezes coming through the palms trees at my home and the ocean waves crashing so that I could almost hear the “musical beat” that Benji described.
The London story line was a nice twist. I know that Benji only saw them as best friends-with-benefits growing up but I am totally convinced that London didn’t see it that way…at least when they were younger. I love that London was wholeheartedly supportive of Benji and Paris and did everything in his power to make it happen. Without him I’m sure their story would have went on and on without resolve for even longer!
The part that was a bit disappointing for me was the wrap up epilogue. This was a four book series about some very dynamic and interesting men and their love journey for their mate/mates. I would have liked to have seen it longer that 3 pages with more than a quick side note to what happened to each of these couples. I loved that they all matured and grew from their individual demons and trials and that they got their much needed HEA. But I think it felt a bit rushed and I didn’t get the closure I needed. I would have loved to have attended one of their weddings at least. Maybe we will get a Christmas novella of Benji and Paris’s private beach wedding???
These books have followed the same timeline of what they each did when the band was forced to cancel their tour due to everything that was happening to destroy their lives and their band so much of it isn’t a surprise. I did love that this book took what happened with the whole Archer/Epic label further.
I loved Benji’s “calmer” story and it was a good way to wrap up the series without too much drama. But I still think that both Lincoln’s and Lando’s stories touched me more. Great series and I am so thankful I discovered them and K.M.!

Benji’s story is the perfect ending to KM Neuhold’s fantastic Replay series. Throughout the series we have seen Benji as the most steady member of the band, the one who was sort of swept along with everyone else’s issues. In this book we get to meet the man behind that steadiness, the one who is tired of the issues, scared for his friends, and struggling to figure out what on earth he is going to do if this is the end of Downward Spiral. I loved finally getting to learn the story of London and why everyone seemed to think Benji would be with him, and then actually meeting London and seeing how hard he tries to push his twin Paris and Benji together is just fun. The fake boyfriend trope works well here and gives the men a chance to get closer and realize maybe they aren’t alone in their feelings for each other after all. The little flashbacks included at times are appreciated, as they give us glimpses into what happened when Paris and Benji were younger and why they never admitted their feelings. I loved getting to see what Benji was up to during the earlier books in the series, as all of the books were sort of happening at the same time for the band. This book is sexy and sweet and exactly what I was hoping to for end this series. And I loooove the direction the band took for their future!! If you haven’t already, I would definitely recommend reading the other books before this to know what’s going on with everyone else during this book’s timeline. I am soooo hoping we get a London spinoff!! Please? Pretty please?
Pining. All the pining. 15 years of pining! Both of them!!
I knew I had to read this book when I read the 1st line of the blurb. To say I loved this book would be an understatement. I love fake relationships and coupled with years of pining, it was made for me. This book is dual POV with alternative past and present in the first half.
Paris and Benji are amazing together. My heart for Paris 'cause he thought Benji was dating his twin in high school when actually Benji and London(twin) were just messing around.
There are a lot of characters from previous books. I haven't read any other books by this author so they were new to me. We meet Royal and his boyfriends and I'm pretty sure they have their own book in another serious. Then ofcourse Benji's bandmates and their boyfriends. I loved the side couples even though I'm not a huge fan of bdsm and daddy kink(Jace, Asher and Bennett)
I loved London too. He's such an amazing brother.
Obviously I loved this book. Highly recommended to everyone who loves mutual pining and fake relationships. #BenjiandParis

STRIKE A CHORD was a quick and easy read and a great end to the Replay series. This is by far the least angsty of the series because Benji is not dealing with the same heavy struggles and baggage the other band members were dealing with. However, he is dealing with an unrelenting crush on his best friend's twin brother Paris. Normally I'm not a fan of the MC dating within the same family but it's been more than 10 years since Benji and London fooled around as two gay teens figuring out their sexuality. And in this case, London is completely on board with Benji dating his brother.
What starts out as a fake relationship to take the paparazzi heat off Paris's injuries and make his ex jealous quickly turns into more. I liked both Paris and Benji and thought they were really sweet together. They both have feelings for the other but have kept it a secret and tried to move on. But with Benji's vacation he sees an opportunity to finally be with the man he's always loved. It was also nice to see what the next steps for the band are and to see them start to rebuild their relationship and finally start understanding each other. Overall, this was a really enjoyable series!
Content Warning: References (in relation to side characters) to depression, self-harm, suicide, drug abuse
Strike A Chord is the final book in KM Neuhold's Replay series. We finally get Benji's story in this one. Benji is the one member of Downward Spiral that is not seemingly flawed and troubled. He's the "good one". First, we were introduced to lead singer, Lincoln, who suffers from bipolar disorder and had several near-death situations. The second book featured Lando who had lost his muse. The third book is all about their super nurturing manager Archie, drummer and drug addict Jude, and protective and domineering Bennett's relationship.
In this book, we get to see the real Benji who is unfulfilled by his superstar status but simultaneously terrified of his band falling apart because that's his whole world.
He heads home to Ohio as a distraction to visit his family and his best friend since high school, London. He doesn't know his life-long crush, London's twin brother Paris is also in town.
Paris and Benji start the book off in similar situations - lost and struggling after their hard-fought careers are on the verge of ending (Paris is a star Pro quarterback, but has recently suffered what may be a career-ending injury). Always attracted to the other, they start a fake dating situation to keep themselves in the spotlight as their careers are on hiatus.
This is the typical fake dating turns into love trope. But, it's fresh in that they've known each other essentially all their lives and their love seems destined (or so London believes). I found the first half of this book engaging, easy to read and I fell in love with the relationship between these two. Then, a little half-way in, the story became quite blah - not taking advantage of opportunities for drama and excitement. There were a lot of inner monologues and fretting and pining about how the other feels or whether the fake relationship is now a real relationship. These complex and intriguing characters slowly turned one-dimensional and lost my interest.
What redeems this book for me is the opportunity to truly revisit the other couples from this series. I felt like the author tied this series up nicely and where everyone landed felt right and hopeful.

Lots and lots and lots of binge-reading in my near future. Next up is K.M. Neuhold's Replay series. The fourth and final book is titled "Strike A Chord," and it's Benji's book (the keyboard player and is crushing on his best friend's twin). ["“You want to fake date me?”
But are stolen moments during our own busy schedules and hurried kisses hidden behind social media posts the basis for a real relationship, or is this just another thing that’s going to turn to dust in our hands?"] This book was sooooo cute!!! D: Like gahhhh! Mutual pining plus best-friends plus fake dating plus not-really-fake-dating plus I'm-the-only-one-who-can-tell-the-twins-apart plus so much fluff and sooo much steam. Total heart-eyes here.
Plus, it perfectly wrapped up the series as a whole. The ending of each book had more and more to the story overall as well as the fate of Downward Spiral, and this was just the cherry on the sundae.
I really enjoyed this book. Benji has alway had a secret crush on his best friend London’s twin brother Paris, who he actually met before London. Paris has always liked Benji but since Benji and London used to date, he considers Benji off limits, even if they actually never dated. Benji and Paris had amazing chemistry. When they spoke abut jumping off the top of the waterfall, I was like don’t do it Paris, don’t do it!, considering how much his arm is worth and his arm was already messed up. I liked getting the flash back scenes as it definitely showed how long Benji, London and Paris have been apart of each other’s lives. I loved seeing Archer and the guys set up their music company Archery Records that they mentioned in the previous book and seeing how far all the Downward Spiral members have come. Benji and London’s friendship is total friendship goals. I loved getting more Royal, Zade and Nash from the Heathens Ink Series as well as the Downward Spiral guys. I thought that this book wrapped up the series fantastically. I’m hoping we get more books from this Universe like from the guys from The Last Weekend as they’re now part of Archery Records or even just a book for London as I’d like to see him finding the love of his life. I’m also looking forward to reading more of KM Neuhold’s stories in the future. I’d definitely recommend this book, series and author to everyone.
I really liked Benji and Paris’ story. It was cute, sweet, steamy, had some hurt/comfort vibes, and plenty of feels. I felt for each MC, felt their connection, and was glad they got their happy ending.🥰 It was much deserved after so much lost time and miscommunication (or rather lack of communication).
I also liked how this wrapped up the series and answered some lingering questions I had about the first three books. There were plenty of scenes and cameos from the other characters, so yay!
I love second-chance romances, and I loved how each of the books in this series included second-chance romances. It made things more interesting and added more depth and emotion, which I am all about!
Overall, this was a really good read and a great series (except for the deaf rep in second book, which I’m still disappointed about☹️). Lincoln and Jace remain my favorite, followed by Jude, Archer, and Bennet, then Benji and Paris, and finally, Lando and Dawson.❤️ Each book was similar yet different, and I liked how they incorporated being a celebrity and the struggles and loneliness that can come with it — and also the positive impact and difference second chances, friendship, being receptive and open, and finding your person/people can have on your life.😊
Both MC’s have been pining for each other since high school, but circumstances and misunderstandings made it so neither of them acted on their feelings and they have no clue that their feelings are reciprocated. Luckily, they kind of tumble into a fake relationship and discover that there is something real beneath the surface, after all. The vulnerability and angst that accompanied this realization was beautifully written and made this a very gripping story. Watching them slowly give in to their feelings was absolutely lovely. Benji and Paris do the long distance thing, which is far from ideal, and I loved how the author solved that for these two amazing MC’s, ending the book on a super romantic, and suitably hot, high note.
I loved how this story was written, with one the hand the growing connection between Paris and Benji, and on the other, the story of the band itself and how all the members find personal happiness and a way to turn things around for their band too. Throughout this series, the importance of their music and the joy the band members find in performing is brilliantly described.
Strike a Chord is the final book in the series and it's one of the best. Can be read as stand-alone but why not read the others? Each one is amazing in its own way.
This book is focused on Benji who seems to be the most put together of everyone in Downward Spiral. With the band on the verge of breaking up. Benji needs some time at home with friends and family. While Paris, his best friend's twin brother, is home because he injured himself while playing football, they conduct a plan while trying to stay relevant and get back at an ex. You can see the love he has Benji throughout the book.
This is one of my favorite books that K.M. Neuhold has written. I don't think I stopped smiling throughout the book. It was very well written, and I couldn't put it down. It was a very smooth story to read, had some sweet moments but also moments of heartache where you can feel the characters pain. They come together in just the right time, while they both are reluctant they are so good together. I would recommend this book to anyone.
From that review:Tying up a series can always be a tricky business, especially if the series has rested its foundation on more than one couple. In this case, its a band. K.M. Neuhold has stretched the arc over five books. One a foundation story called Rock Bottom which shows the band Downward Spiral on the edge of imploding due to the personal problems of some of the band members after years of being together and incredible success. After that each band member gets their own story (which I have listed at the bottom of this review). We see the band, their rise, each person's demon's and the SO, the relationship, the issues, and finally how it's resolved for a HEA for that couple. But the future of the band? That's left to this story and so is Benji, the last band member to get his HEA
I loved everything about this story. This is the fourth and final book of this series and I may not quite be ready to say goodbye to these boys. These characters are just so in need of love and K.M. Neuhold does them justice.
This author constantly awes me with her writing. These stories just flow so effortlessly. From beginning to end she had me completely captivated. I was awwing, oohing, and breathless from one minute to the next. Benji and Paris were so damn adorable and equally hilarious in their own way.
I love the whole fake dating scenario. Although Benji and Paris have been long time friends they still didn't really know each other. The ease of the transition from friends to lovers was so incredibly sweet. These two had me all up in my feels.
Benji and Paris' journey was very low angst and drama. It was super sexy, sweet and a great ending to this series.

The final book of the Replay series has a little different feel than the first three. There’s not as much past trauma in this one, and the MC’s aren’t past lovers looking to rekindle romance. This is a slow build, with Benji and Paris going from old-but-distant friends with crushes to fake dating to love. This book is more about new beginnings and the courage to move on. The love is no less sweet and the spice is no less spicy, though. I know it says the books can be read in any order but I think they will read so much better if you start at the beginning. Each book has a little more of a hint as to what happens to Downward Spiral and by the time you get to this one, you can’t wait to find out what happens next. Five stars on this whole series, Ms Neuhold. Another one knocked out of the park, and a happy sigh from this happy reader. Now, how about Cooper’s book??
Strike a Chord is the fourth and final book in the Replay series. This series is best read in order, but this book could be read as standalone.
Benji, out of all the Downward Spiral members, is the most stable. He’s living his dream and enjoying every moment - the only thing that’s stopping him from fully relishing everything is the trouble and issues all his other bandmembers are dealing with. However, as much as Benji has been enjoying his rock star life, it turns out he’s been missing having love in his life. When he and Paris reconnect and start a pseudo fake relationship, Benji finds happiness and love that fills that hole he didn’t even know he had. This was a fun book that had a lot of romance and steamy moments between two high school friends. I also really enjoyed the Heathens Ink cameo that happened. That was fun and great to see some of my favorite characters hanging out with some new favorite characters.
