A modern woman braves the dangers of the sixteenth century Highlands and her own dark past to find the one thing she's never had: love.
Eleanor Stevenson’s life is empty. Having sacrificed everything to become a doctor, she throws herself into her work, leaving no room for anything else. But haunted by a tragic mistake from her past, she finds that not even medicine brings the solace she yearns for. So when a strange old woman shows up at her surgery and she’s offered a job in a remote village in the Scottish Highlands with the chance to start over, she takes it.
But when she steps through a living archway on a wind-swept hillside, Eleanor finds herself tossed into the Highlands of the sixteenth century. They’re beautiful, wild, dangerous—and a million miles away from everything she knows. Her only hope lies in the rugged Highlander who comes to her aid—but she’s not sure she can trust him.
Finlay MacAuley is trapped. Cursed by a fateful bargain with the Fae, he’s become everything he hates. Liar. Traitor. Oath breaker. So when he rescues a strange woman from a savage gang of mercenaries, he dares to hope that fate might have given him a second chance. If he can get her home, maybe he can find some sort of redemption.
But fate, it seems, has other ideas. Finn and Eleanor find themselves thrown into a war that threatens not only their lives but the very future as well. Only together can they find a way to stop it. But will their damaged pasts allow them to trust each other? Or will their secrets break them?

Eleanor Stevenson is a doctor with an empty life who's punishing herself for what she perceives to be a mistake in her past. When she's visited by a mysterious woman, Irene MacAskill, at the end of a day at work she makes the decision to accept a job offer in a small village in Scotland. When she arrives, Eleanor goes for a walk and meets Irene again who repeats her story about fate and soulmates telling Eleanor that she has a choice. Eleanor then walks through an arch in a tree and finds herself back in the 16th century Scottish highlands.
Finlay MacAuley is a trapped man thanks to a Fae curse working for the enemy. He's everything he hates and when he comes about Eleanor being held by a group of men who are mercenaries for the man he's doomed to work for, he takes her away and promises to get her home. However, before he can return her the arched tree, they're found and must return to the lord. Finn and Eleanor are thrown together in the midst of a war that threatens the future. Can they learn to trust each other and work together to prevent destruction?
I absolutely love this series and this book does not disappoint. It's well-written and the characters are believable. The interaction between Finn and Eleanor is great with neither being too quick to trust or to slow to listen to their heart. I highly recommend this read although I do recommend you read the series in order.
I just love these wonderful books, such great stories and well fleshed characters. I do hope there will be more of them. Love Eileen McAlister she is great.

Both the H & h in this newest time travel romance have issues from their past that they try to deal with daily. This is a well written book that ties their pasts with their newly discovered present. The villains in this scenario even though masked and aided by the Fae are very evil in their own rights without the involvement of magic. There are many twist and turns with a surprise around every corner. The only "of course" is the ending of this book where the heroine decides on the past instead of returning to her own time. I gave this book 4.6 of 5.0 stars for storyline, plot and character development. I received a complimentary copy to read. This in no way affected my opinion of this book which I read and reviewed voluntarily.
Eleanor Stevenson is a 21st Century physician running from the painful past of losing her mother and unsure if she wants to practice medicine. She has been thinking of applying for a locum tenens physician position in, wait for it, in Scotland. After meeting the fae Irene MacAskill, she decides to go there where she see Irene again. Irene shows Eleanor an archway and Eleanor finds herself drawn to walk through it, not realizing that she is going back to 1542 Scotland.
Meanwhile, Finlay (Finn) MacCauley, the third cursed MacCauley brother, is "working" for Lord Alasdair Stewart, a slimey wannabe Clan Laird determined to use Finn to destroy the MacCauley clan..
Eleanor has the misfortune to run into four of Laird Stewart's patrol when she arrives in Scotland. They are convinced that she is a MacCauley spy. They are determined to bring her back to Laird Stewart. Eleanor has other ideas and manages to escape and, while running form Balloch, Stewart's nephew, to run into Finn who decides to take Eleanor into HIS custody. The men are not pleased but Finn outranks them.
Now the fun starts. Eleanor and Finn get to know each other better but naturally they don't have a smooth path. But the journey is fun.
I received an ARC ebook to read and give an honest review. This is an excellent book and I highly recommend not only this book but the entire Archway series.
The Arch Through Time Series is an excellent series. It is Well written with few of the errors I find in so many other series that haven't been properly proof-read and edited. The characters are well rounded and believable in each of the separate books. Each book has a relationship to the previous books but each is a complete story and can be read as a stand-alone book with no cliff-hangers.h
Done time travel books aren't able to show a smoothie transition from one time to another. The Arch Through Time Series always had a smoothie transition that helps with believability. That's not to say that all of the characters have a smoothie transition. The problems that each character faces is what makes the series such good reading. S
Last but not least, Katy Baker knows her subject matter very well. Her descriptions of the landscape and people of the Highlands and the Isle of Skye are very well done. Almost like those of a native of that area.
If you like tales of the Scottish Highlands and/or time travel I'm fairly sure you'll love this series. Let Katy Baker take you away from your everyday life and emerse you in the lives of the Highlanders of long ago. I'm sure you'll love reading this series as much as I did.
ONE RIP ROARING DELIGHT!!! OMG! Talk about life altering decisions that keep you living on a razors edge. A whirlwind of unexpected activities and surprising events that keep you flipping page after page. Katy's don't pull any punches attitude really set the tone for this fast paced baby that leaves you in a quivering mess. One riveting storyline and electrifying plot blasts this bad boy roaring to life brilliantly. The characters were realistic with personalities and depth that scream for respect. Sparks fly as danger ensues in epic proportions. Heart pounding and pulse racing as their hot and steamy connection grows. The scenes were so vividly detailed and descriptive that it gives the illusion you were right there in the middle of ground zero with them. Twists and turns abound with unrivalled mishaps that skyrocketing this bad boy together flawlessly. Remarkable job Katy, thanks for sharing this little gem with us.
If you have read any of Katy Bakers' Arch Through Time Series of books, you will know all about Irene McGaskill! If this is your first foray into this series, boy have you got a series to sink your teeth into, especially if you love Time Travel, and, lets face it, who doesn't! Without giving too much away, these books are about modern day women who, when pressed, admit that there is something lacking in their life and decide to take a chance on change. The change however is not just a minor one! They are hurtled through time and have to put up with, lol, gorgeous brawny, bossy and headstrong Highland Warriors!
Oh baby, if this doesn't get the heart pumping, you need a crash cart!
I have loved every one of these delightful stories and.......Time Travel, if only!
This series is well written and almost believable. I like that there are links to the other books in the series, although the books can be read as a stand-alone. In this one, the third of the cursed brothers comes home. His story is heartbreaking, more so than his brothers, and it is not clear how modern woman, Eleanor is going to save him. Finlay is a strong warrior, and it is this that ultimately determines his fate. Eleanor's influence certainly helps and the connection to Irene makes both stop and think. It was lovely that Eleanor had the two previous modern ladies to welcome her, making her transition to the 16th century much more believable. It is better to read the series in order, but not strictly necessary.
The Series' Storylines & Endings Have Become Redundant & Boring!
I am, more than, half way thru this series. And the predictable, redundant storylines & endings have become boring.
(POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERT) I am waiting for someone to time travel to the 21st century & have to make the choice to stay in the 21st century. Maybe the next book in the series will change it up...
But with that being said, it's a decent series. But only if you don't have a reading marathon, and read the books in the series back to back....like I have. 😉
An adventurous romantic tale of the youngest MacAuley brother, Finlay, with the worst curse. That of being a controlled slave. Eleanor comes from the future to assist in helping Finlay break his curse. Very well written with great character development. Fun story to read.
I have enjoyed this book. I had to wait almost a month until my daughter got it back for me. I liked the way Finley and Elenor fell in love and supported each other.
Once again, I highly recommend Katy Baker's book! Fate of a Highlander was just the perfect mix of Fae magic and Mortal determination. Im so proud of Eleanor and Fin!
This book was just as amazing as the others in this series. And it brought more revelation to unanswered questions. I very much enjoyed reading it. And I hope others choose to read this entire series as well!
The arch through time series has become one of my favorites. You can disappear into the story and it helps make things good for a while. Excited for more of this series
Eleanor goes to the past through an arch. She finds there are good fea blood and bad people with fea deals. She finds Finlay that tries to help her home. Later she feels home with him and doesn’t go back.
La fin de l’histoire des trois frères et de leur sort maudit.Ils sont enfin réunis avec leur nouvelles épouses venues du futur.J’ai hâte de voir dans quelle histoire Kate Baker va nous amener.
The storyline is awesome and Eleanor is too! Loved that all three brothers ended up free from the curse and with outlander wives! This book really good!
This is an OK time-travel romance, but I did have some issues with it.
First off, Eleanor adapted to her unexpected time-travel way too easily to believe. I think she would have been a lot more freaked out by it then she was. Also, the highlanders would have been much more concerned with her strange talk and clothes than they were. They just kept thinking she must be "daft", and accepted her behavior as normal for someone from America. It seemed like they just accepted all her differences too easily. I didn't buy it.
For the most part, I liked both Eleanor and Finlay, but I did get irritated with them a few times. Finlay was very controlling and bossy, which Eleanor did not appreciate. She told him she was from a faraway place, where women were much more independent, so he should not have expected her to allow him to boss her around. He should have taken the time to explain why it was not safe for her to be so independent. He did get better, but it took him a while. Eleanor kept doing stupid stuff, which meant Finlay had to rescue her a lot, and that was irritating.
I didn't buy that Eleanor and Finlay were in love. They were definitely in lust, but they just didn't spend enough time together for me to believe in their love connection. Finlay also annoyed her a lot when he kept telling her what to do.
I also thought that this story was very similar to the others in the series. There is unexpected time-travel, the h is rescued by a hot highlander, causes trouble with her modern ideas, falls in love with the hot highlander, needs to be rescued again, and then everything ends in an HEA. This one did have the difference of Eleanor helping with Finlay's curse, but the plot was still very similar to the other books. Many of the scenes, like the love scenes and wedding scenes, are also very similar in all the books in the series.
The story was mildly entertaining, and I did like Irene, so I did finish all the books in the series -- but I probably would not have if they weren't free with Kindle Unlimited. Because of the issues I noted above, this one gets 3 stars from me.
My rating system is below. 1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it. 2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws. 3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating. 4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one. 5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.
