Winner of the Jim Baen and L Ron Hubbard Writer’s of the Future awards, C. Stuart Hardwick is a regular in Analog magazine, known for hard sci-fi that soars through the cosmos, exploring the depths of human nature and the mysteries of space and time. His evocative prose, enriched by scientific rigor, ignites the imagination and leaves an indelible mark on the human mind.
When he’s not at the keyboard or on his bicycle, Stuart can often be found building or dismantling things with equal glee, helping electrons find their way across the lonely Texas power grid, or developing new novel writing software when he should, just maybe, be writing new novels instead.
Following Astronaut Stanley G. Love's warm introduction and editor C. Stuart Hardwick's preface that explores the interrelationship of science and its fiction, this compilation of stories, many previously published award winners, begins with a touching tale of hope and dreams, "The Rocket Maker" by Mike Barretta, and a poem from Marianne J. Dyson. Next up, "Low Arc" by Sean Monaghan, is old-fashioned, hard-science, science fiction at the top of its game with all the gung-ho and can-do-it spirit of the original astronaut program. More than a dozen offerings from some of the top names in today's science fiction will spark your imagination and fuel your dreams of tomorrow and its possibilities as you celebrate more than half a century of reaching for the stars--and the Golden Anniversary of our walk on the moon.
Starting with the ending. Spider Robinson's lyrics are a great touch of what we have found so far out there, above the blue. This collection has it all, the action of a rocket launch (and the rocket itself) in pieces like "The Rocket Maker" and "Low Arc" the passions of people "For All Mankind" and closer to the individual in "Intent to Occupy" as well as all the nitty gritty details that went into the Moon shot.. "We Fly", "Doppler Shift" and "Burst Mode"
All that and buffets to consume in a few minutes with a wonderful sonnet "The Artist's Moon" or the evocative "The Undiscovered Country", "Citizen Astronaut"
The tales in this book prove it. The dream, leaving our home and exploring the universe, still lives. I loved every minute of my time reading this book. I invite you to enjoy yourself, as well.
