In this bright, bold picture book, a cast of animal characters are building a brand-new playground in a local park for their community! Each day of the week contains a different construction plan as the steam-rolling, digging, and planting gets underway.
Tuesday! Mix day! Pipe and boards and bricks day. Stack, spin, pour it in. Give the fence a fix day.
Wednesday! Load day! Take it on the road day. Hoist, haul, pull it all. Something being towed day!
The construction project comes together for a joyful, rhyming walking tour of a neighborhood, where young readers can learn the days of the week while watching everyone work as a team!

The builders will have to work hard every day this week in order to finish their surprise for the children.
The illustrations are the star of this picture book. The words are cute sing-songy rhyme that further the story, but the illustrations make it shine, shine, shine. I would to see these characters in many more books of their own.
There are animals and construction and the style is playful with detail but it is not too detailed. There’s enough to keep his schizophrenic attention.
He always at his age thinks buckets on one page are cups which is funny.
My son loves all the different things the builders build before Saturday their designated play day.
This book teaches some good vocabulary and can be used as a tool to learn about the days of the week, rhyming, and similar word sounds.
Recommended for parents of any young toddler kids who like construction.
My 2 year old foster son LOVES this book, so even though I don't usually add kids' books to my own "read" list, I have to include this one. He could look at these pictures forever! Each day/page is a different scene from a construction site where the animals/workers are building something. When you get to the last page, you realize they've made a new playground. The pictures are adorable and the rhymes are clever and fun.
Full credit to Joey: he picked it up at the library today! It was a really good pick. Bright color illustrations on each page, showing a busy team of animal builders progress on a building project throughout a week. The book teaches context clues, has rhyming text, and teaches the days of the week. I was tired when reading and didn't pay close enough attention to the illustrations. Joey was able to guess the project at the end of the book but I didn't!
This book was very easy to read. The words all flowed together, and the story was well written. I feel little boys or even girls would enjoy this book if they love construction and building new things. It also had many rhymes throughout the book. I would recommend reading this book to young children.
A favorite in our house! The rhyming text is really energetic and fun to read aloud. The illustrations by Leo Timmers are fantastic. Lots of little details in the pictures to pore over. My 3yo loves it and recites some of the lines.
We do a "days of the week" portion of storytime, and the preschoolers don't quite get the concept of what we're singing about! This is a fun one to bridge that gap that might help them actually understand, wrapped in a high-interest package. Love it!
This is a very cute story! The pictures are adorable, it's a quick easy read for young kids. It is definitely one to have on your children's bookshelf.
Not a big fan of the text, but could be useful for practicing days of the week. I do like that you can prompt kids to guess what the animals are building.
The text bounces off your tongue in a delightful way. Full of rhymes and vivid verbs, alliteration and (of course) onomatopoeia, the book begs to be read aloud. And just try to read it without smiling. Impossible! Follow these inner-city builders as they create something special out of a drab plot of land. Four enthusiastic thumbs up from the boy and I!
