Good morning! It's a beautiful sunny beginning to the day here in Western, Pennsylvania. I'm working on my 75th book. 75th! I'm very excited about that.
I've written some fun things ... those are the Silhouette Romance titles. I especially liked SNOWBOUND BABY which was book 3 of the Bryant Baby Bonanza series which also included BABY BEFORE BUSINESS and PRINCE BABY. But my favorites for Silhouette where the books of the Brewster Baby Boom series THE BABY BEQUEST, BRINGING UP BABIES and OH, BABIES! Where three bachelors inherit triplets. Those were fun to write. I go back every now and again and read them myself for a laugh!
My Harlequins are a little (sometimes a lot) more serious than my Silhouettes, but I always deliver a heart warming story that reminds readers that family and love go hand in hand.
You'll especially see that in FALLING FOR THE PREGNANT HEIRESS where Trent Sigmund decides to help his best friend Seth's baby sister Sabrina McCallan hunt down her on-again/off-again boyfriend, Pierre, to tell him he's about to be a father. Trent tries not to fall. So does Sabrina. Who knew real love had been in their backyard all along.
Sexy or sweet, funny or sad, my characters make some serious lemonade out of their lemons! :)
Because that's how I see life. I have three kids...one of whom has epilepsy. Raising him taught me (and my husband and our other two kids) that sometimes a situation that seems bad can have its blessings.
Christmas in August! I just got the third book in the trilogy, so I can indulge my preference to read a series from start to finish. This was a heartwarming Cinderella story. The book opens with Leni working in the diner that her adoptive parents own. She has just graduated with her degree in social work and is helping out while looking for a job. She is all decked out like one of Santa's elves when a good-looking stranger stops in the diner. Nick is on a mission for a friend. He needs to find Eleanor Long and let her know that she may be one of three heirs to a multibillionaire's fortune.
I loved the first meeting between Nick and Leni. There is an immediate connection between the two of them. Nick finds himself acting out of character, flirting with the waitress, and being unusually light-hearted. I loved the give-and-take between him and Leni. That all comes to a screeching halt when he finds out that Leni is his missing heiress. Leni is stunned by the news. I loved that she kept her head and didn't immediately leave for New York the way he wanted her to. Instead, she made him wait until the next day so that she could talk to her parents about it. Nick isn't used to not getting his way and isn't quite sure how he feels about it.
I enjoyed watching the development of the relationship between Leni and Nick. Leni is a down-to-earth young woman whose primary interest in her inheritance is the ability to help her parents. Her father suffered a job-related injury, and the medical costs are overwhelming. When the estate's lawyer has to postpone their meeting, Nick is left to watch over Leni. Despite his attraction to her, Nick is determined to keep a distance between them. Leni is not exactly cooperative in that endeavor. I loved watching her poke and tease him until he loosens up, only to have to do it again and again as he battles his feelings for her.
I ached for Nick, who is still grieving the death of his older brother. He is overwhelmed by guilt, also, because he feels responsible for Joe's death. He feels as though his parents blame him, too, and does everything he can to fill in for his brother. Though part of him wants to see where things could go with Leni, he mostly feels unworthy of having a relationship with her.
I loved the scenes where Leni shook Nick out of his comfort zone. The ice skating scene was fantastic as he allowed his old fun side to come out. There was also a profoundly caring part to Nick. When Leni's father ended up in the hospital, Nick was there by her side, doing anything he could to help Leni and her mother. It didn't take long for Leni to realize that she was falling hard for Nick. I ached for her as she accepted that sometimes love wasn't enough to overcome all obstacles. It took an eye-opening conversation with his father for Nick to see what he was doing. I loved his big moment at the end, as he let go of his grief and embraced the future.
I loved watching Leni throughout the book. She had a hard time accepting her inheritance because of her anger at her biological father. She felt that he had abandoned her and her mother, leaving them to struggle while he went on his merry way. When her mother became ill and gave Leni up for adoption, it added to her resentment of him. Fortunately, she ended up with loving adoptive parents. Now she has a chance to help her family, but it means letting go of her anger. I liked the way that Nick helped her with that.
Leni is also very independent. I enjoyed seeing her go head-to-head with Nick over using any of the estate "slush fund" before being proved an heir. Even once she was confirmed, Leni remained true to herself. I had fun watching her shop, taking advantage of her new reality. The scenes at the hospital party and the fundraiser ball were fantastic. I especially enjoyed watching her shine at the ball. I ached for her dismay at being tricked at the coffee shop and loved how Nick came to her rescue. But what I loved the most was how she decided to make a difference with the money she inherited. The epilogue was a terrific followup.
This was a nice, sweet & fluffy story to pass the afternoon with likable characters. More of a fairytale theme as others stated, but a welcome change for those of us who are into mostly heavy reads.
Eleanor "Leni" Long is working as a waitress, trying to help her family make money after her father was injured on the job. It's a hard life but she loves her town and her parents, especially since she knows she was adopted. Nick Kourakis is not someone who belongs in a small town. He's an investment banker and New Yorker all the way. But he's here to help his friend find three heirs to a billionaire's fortune... and Leni might be one of them. He convinces her to go to New York with him to see if she is potentially going to inherit a fortune all while keeping it under wraps so that she doesn't get mobbed by paparazzi and people looking to take her money from her. While all of this is happening, Nick is by her side the whole way. The story was fine but I didn't really connect with either Leni or Nick. She was too sweet; he was way too angsty for it to be solved in this short a book. This is a Harlequin Romance so that's not unexpected and regular category readers may not mind that as much.
Cinderella’s Billion-Dollar Christmas is really an inspiring story. Leni finds out she may be a heir to a millionaire.
What would you do if you found out your birth family was millionaires?
It was definitely a surprise to Leni who is a waitress. Leni had been adopted as a long girl, not a baby. After Nick comes to the restaurant to tell her and get to come to New York she doesn’t know what to think. What will she do?
I love this quote from the book “ There is no old Leni or new Leni or nice Leni or sharp Leni. I am always going to be myself. “ Would you be able to stay yourself ? I loved how Leni was able to. Leni also thought to herself “having money was such an odd thing, so much good but so much bad.
This is a wonderful Christmas story, I definitely recommend reading this book.
I received a complimentary copy of the book from Sara with Harlequinjunkie.com. This book review is my own opinion.
Wow, what an heartwarming modern day Cinderella story. Leni is everything you think of when you think of Cinderella, compassionate and loving, she is out to save the world, I love her. And Nick, please send me a prince charming like him, baggage and all. Susan Meier, once again has written a story that will make your heart glow.
With most books like this one you go in knowing what to expect and that was why I wanted to read it. I wanted a sweet romance with a happily ever after. This book did not disappoint. Overall I really enjoyed the characters and their romance. I would consider reading the other books in this series.
Thie is a fast-paced holiday romance that had me smiling. Though the hero and heroine had issues, they were handled in a way that, although heartfelt, still kept this an uplifting and fun story. Ms. Meier has a deft hand when it comes to characters and keeping you involved in the story. I'm looking forward to reading the next two books in the series when they come out.
Leni was abandoned by her sick mother and clearly her father wasn't interested in her and has been living comfortably and happily with her adoptive parents. Things are a bit tight and her father has health issues but they are doing what they can with what they have. Then in comes Nick letting her know that she is an heir to a fortune. To get the details straighten out she must have a dna test and talk to some people who can get things straightened out she has to go with Nick to NYC.
This was a pretty cute contemporary book. I thought it was interesting seeing how things played out for Leni. She could've let the riches that were coming her way get to her head. She could've changed with everything that slowly was getting revealed and it was interesting seeing how things played out. Then there was the clear attraction that was brewing between Nick and Leni. Nick has his hang ups and really isn't interested in getting close to anyone. I enjoyed getting to know these characters and seeing how their past impacted who they were today. Overall this was an enjoyable read for me and recommend you lovely readers to check it out.
A great read of young woman who was adopted at 8 years old discovers her biological father has died leaving her part of estate to her. And a wealth business man who has to take her and protect her from reporters. Eventually they fall for each other. She has to go through DNA Testing to prove her identity.
