Atsushi Ōkubo ( 大久保篤), also romanized as Atsushi Ohkubo, is a Japanese manga author and fantasy artist known for his work on the manga series Soul Eater, which has been adapted into an anime. Okubo worked as an assistant under Rando Ayamine, on the manga series Get Backers. He also created artwork for various cards for the Lord of Vermillion game.
Atsushi Ōkubo was not a model student and was more attracted to drawing than to learning. At the age of 20, after finishing studies at a manga school where he met Rando Ayamine, the author of Get Backers, he became Rando Ayamine's assistant for two years. Finally, he won a competition at Square Enix's Gangan magazine with his first manga series B.Ichi and it was published for four volumes. After the end of his last manga, he created Soul Eater, still for Square Enix's Gangan magazine, which brought him worldwide success.
The relationship between Nataku and Kurono is well, weird. At least, Nataku will not fall into the hands of the enemy but we don't know if it's good because Kurono likes beating up weak opponents. Still, Kurono has cool abilities and character design. The comedic parts with Arthur were great as always. There is also the case of Iris who is on the verge of losing faith because the Church is basically a sham. It was a good volume but could be better so that's why it's on the lower side of 4 points.
Arthur's stupidity keeps a bad situation from getting worse. The bad guys team up with the good guys and the good guys sorta team up with the not so nice guys because one bad guy took things too far and nearly killed ALL of them. Awesome explosions and everyone is slowly making connections to figure out the mystery of infernals and the evangelists.
But there's a really good message in here about why it's bad for parents to put so much pressure on their kids. THEY'RE KIDS! Let them have a childhood. Yes, urge them to do their best but don't give them the ultimatum of "Do well or you're a total failure." It'll mess them up.
Ugh. The dysfunctional relationship between Nataku and Kurono is disgusting. It kind of ticks me off that no one else told the kid he didn’t need to keep doing what the other adults told him, and instead it came from that gross assholewho literally wants him to stay weak so he can keep eating him up. Nataku is basically a lost cause at this point. However, I don’t see why the evangelist’s people just left him there. Tbh, I don’t like Nataku as a character. He got played a shitty hand and apparently had shitty parents on top of it, but he’s irritating in his hallucinating about Rekka. Though of course Huamea extra screwed with his head.
Once again Inca’s stupid powers show up, and they make no sense. Supposedly she can see premonitions of where fire will appear. Ok. Then why can she also create the situation where that fire appears? It’s the problem with seeing the future - if you create the future because you saw the future, how is that possible? Anyway, I really hate her and the ugly jumpsuits she and Huamea wear.
I’m disappointed that Company 8 is working with Haijima and also keeping the church’s secrets. Some interesting reflections on religion here. I respect the idea that people need something to believe in, and that the sun is there, blah blah. But that should also tell them that it is unnecessary to do prayers before extinguishing an infernal. If your choice is to die or let the infernal kill civilians because you don’t have someone on hand for a prayer, that’s ridiculous.

One of the criticisms of this volume will probably be how annoying Nataku and Rekka are. With Nataku only saying the same few lines and Rekka spouting the same lines to spur him on you kind of wish they would say something else at some point, but they don’t until the fight is over. While I love both characters, I did want them to have something else to say.
Regardless, I can excuse it because Nataku is a kid that had so many expectations thrust upon him that he just had to live up to them even if it drove him a little crazy, and Rekka was one of his supporters and push him on as well.
Beyond that, it was a really compelling conclusion to a large scale multi-entity fight. While the radiation thing seemed to be a threat but not really since it wasn’t ever focused on, and the massive blast to the moon was mindblowing, I did feel that the story remained realistic and grounded. Really curious to see what new heights the story tries to reach in the future.
Read as part of Omnibus Vol 6: This was fine, interesting even. The bad guys are a bit unhinged and one takes it way to far and almost gets everyone killed. Author is an idiot and the writer just needs to have him in place without pages of people trying to convince Author he is a knight (sigh).
Things are so bad that Company 8 and both set of bad guys team up to save the day. Charon, it turns out is smarter than he seems and willingly works with people to save the day. How no one took the chance during the confusion to kill the child molestor is beyond me. He might have had some kind of change of heart but he is still hurting kids.
Later the visit to get the weapons blessed and visit the graveyard was interesting character development.
This one was somewhat exciting in the first third of the volume but after the conclusion of Nataku’s and Kurono’s arc it kind of falls stale. We learn about Haijima’s true intentions and the story expands on Sister Iris and Shinra’s relationship with tests of faith, but it isn’t as engaging as it has been in earlier volumes. Almost seems like filler. Story is still entertaining and I’m looking forward to the next volume like always, but this entry fell short in entertainment with some typical character development.
I didn’t like “Haijine arc” however the themes tackled by Ohkubo were interesting, especially Natsuko’s fear of letting people down, hence pressuring himself to always succeed no matter what. The speech gave to him by “uncle shinigami”(Idk his name) was touching, despite the characters traces within. Other interesting approach was how religion functions in they’re world and how the characters are dealing with it after discovering some questionable truths about it.
Finally a volume that I could really get into. The last few volumes have been a bit mediocre but still enjoyable but this one got me excited again. There was a sort of teaming up with all the different organizations that are usually enemies and the pairings were odd but also delightful. It made me hopeful that certain characters might change sides and work with good ole Company 8 to get rid of the common enemy.
“‘i want to do this.’ ‘i want to be that.’ ‘i want to be more.’ men keep thinking those things and it keeps making them stronger” this series continues to give everything cuz just when it’s getting team too much it balances comedy and heart in there so well

Hubungan yang aneh antara Kurono dan Nataku. Perubahan posisi Industri Haijima serta sedikit kisah terkait hubungan Shinra dan Iris suster. Alur cerita semakin menarik.
The portrait of PTSD is amazing. Serioulsy. Also, the horrible parents are spot on For real, this one moved me (evem tho I laughed my ass off on Sir Arthur)
The battle royale comes to an end, a satisfactory one if you ask me.
There were a couple of interesting twists in this volume that i liked to see how it develops. As always, really good fight scenes. Also, i'm want to learn more about Kurono's abilities, it looks awesome.
The one problem i have with the series is with one of the characters, and that one is Arthur. I really like him and his abilitie (maybe is my Star Wars fan talking) but i hate the fact that he gets week when hiw "knight fantasy" comes down. I know it's for comedic purposes but i'm not a fan of it.
