Out of Time #11

Expedition in Time

Rate this book
Simon and Elizabeth Cross are enjoying a romantic mission in 1936 Miami when things go south—literally—to Rio de Janeiro. The mysterious artifact they've been tasked to retrieve isn't sitting in some museum in Florida; it's buried in the Lost City of El Dorado hidden in the darkest jungles of Brazil. As if trekking through a jungle where everything wants to kill you—including cannibals—wasn't dangerous enough, they also have to deal with a ruthless archaeologist who will stop at nothing to find the Lost City and a pair of Nazis hellbent on bringing the power and the glory of the artifact back to the Führer himself.Unless Simon and Elizabeth can find El Dorado and the artifact first, history will be forever changed, and not for the better. 'Cause, ya know, Nazis.

Another wonderful Elizabeth and Simon adventure

It is always fun and exciting to participate in the time traveling and world saving adventures of Simon and Elizabeth Cross. I love the combination of history, adventure, and love. Our time traveling couple are once again trying to preserve the past to save the future. This time in 1936 in Brazil by locating the lost City of El Dorado and the Staff of Life before unscrupulous archeologists or Nazis locate them. The story includes what you’d expect from this series - fighting, dangerous situations, end of the world scenarios, evil masterminds, henchmen, loyal friends and family, tragic back stories, mystical coincidences, plot twists, snark, and laughs. As usual, there is also the normal growth and conflicts inherent in Simon and Elizabeth’s personal relationship which is always a necessary and integral part of the storyline. And while this is not a true romance book, it is more of a (romantic) suspense adventure, it is their loving relationship that softens the story and makes their characters more likeable and relatable. As long as there are more books to read in this series, I will keep reading them.

What an Adventure!

I have no words to describe the adventure that Monique Martin takes us on in this novel. Each of the adventures she always writes for us is magnificent, but, for me, thus far this one is outstanding! You are there, you feel the air, eat the food and experience what the characters do through her words! I NEVER try to retell a story as well written as this one, but I will caution, there is much you will not see coming in this journey with the Crosses! My favorite tale of the Cross' journeys to date. Highly recommend, but with the caveat, it is a page turner; so...set aside some time as you will not want to put it down.

Duh duh duuuhhhhh (that's dramatic music....)

Oh man oh man!! What a story!! The usual characters are here...Simon and Elizabeth (in all their glory), a glimpse of Charlotte and Jack, then the good guy, the bad guy, the really bad guy, and the really REALLY bad guy...and the convoluted twists of Ms. Martin's plots and story telling. It's wonderful! Trying not to give a spoiler, but there's a twist at the end that prompted the "music" of my review title!! Anxiously awaiting for the next, and part of me is hoping that this trip is where Elizabeth ended up preggers again!!!!

Fantastic Exploration in Time

I have previously reviewed Monique Martin's books in the past and all had favorable reviews. This is my favorite so far. Could not put this book down. Clever, slightly romantic and funny. However, I was most impressed with the true adventure part of this book. Reminded me of the thrills associated with Indiana Jones, but with a female heroine with her loyal husband at her side. Can hardly wait until the next book is completed in the series. Thank you Monique for the thrill ride.

I do enjoy this time travel series. This installment finds Simon and Elizabeth in the 1930s and traveling from Cuba to the Amazon basin to find a relic purported to extend life indefinitely. Unfortunately, they are not the only ones looking for it. Nazis want it for Hitler's occult collection to rule the world. And then there's the academic whose need for it is more personal.

Just how many more times will Simon and Elizabeth be called on to save the world?

Maybe I'm over this series. I find myself tired of Simon's attitude (except for his final scene). There was just too much waiting around for the real adventure. The willingness to overlook things that are wrong in the name of saving history wears thin too. I spent way too much of the book bored or irritated.

While it's been a couple years since I have read any books with Simon and Elizabeth's adventures, it was a nicely done book with some Indiana Jones subtleties that I did enjoy. Pacing was good and some real live age issues to deal with. Some solutions seemed a bit simplified compared to real life, but did not detract from the main storyline. Nice little epilogue too! What's next!

Love this story. Lots of drama. Kept you on edge. Make a great movie. Learned a. bit on flying sea planes. Seemed like a fun way to travel.

Not my favorite Out of Time book, but still engaging and action packed. A worthy and enjoyable addition to the series.

Exciting, and fast paced

Every book that I read by this author turns out to be my favorite, so I won't repeat myself. It was vert engaging, I read it in just a few days. Simon and Elizabeth have gone through a lot in their time travels and took this mission thinking it would be easy, but there is never an easy mission, this one was as interesting as their others. I was surprised at the ending, I was expecting something totally different. It's a great read but make sure you have your seat belt buckled before you start reading.

Oh my god oh my god oh my god!
How did I not know this was going to be released? I'm so disappointed in myself. I've been a fan of Simon and Elizabeth forever and I didn't even know another book came out? I was just looking up another one of my favorite series and happened to see this and got so confused but then really really excited! AHHHH! fangirlling here. This isn't a helpful review, like at all. But I wanted to express how excited I was cause OMG!
I digress
