This mystery will have you craving chocolate! I enjoy Ms. Bell’s various series and look forward to each one, this one is no exception. Ally Sweet runs Charlotte’s Chocolate Heaven along with her Grandmother, Charlotte, who owns the shop. I find it enjoyable to visit with their regular customers who also seem to hand out a bit of gossip, as often as Ally and Charlotte hand out samples of chocolates. In this book, one of the local residents is running around buying up land no matter the cost to other business owners. Several business owners are upset which leads to several murder suspects when the resident is found murdered near the shop’s alley. With plenty of feedback (hence gossip) from their friends, as well as Alley’s investigations, she and her Grandmother Charlotte, decide it’s time to up their sleuthing game and put their clues together. Will Ally and Charlotte find the murder, or will they find themselves in another gooey situation? So many suspects, so many delicious chocolates, this is truly and enjoyable, “who dun it” mystery. Not only does Ally and Charlotte provide entertainment to the reader, the chocolate recipe in the back is always something to look forward to. I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review,
Rumors start that Gary Bob, who recently moved back to town with his new wife, Jasmine, is buying up land and local shops to build a casino. Gossip has it that not everyone wants a casino in town. When Gary Bob is found dead in the alley by one of the shops, Ally Sweet and her grandmother, Charlotte, owners of Charlotte's Chocolate Heaven, decide to help find the killer. The suspects are many. Jasmine appears to be grief stricken, but is she really? Is Harriett Duluth, chairman of Blue River Town Planning and Zoning Commission involved? What about Eric Newland, owner of Blue River Bakery? It appears Cinnamon, a white cat with light brown patches, is trying to tell everyone something. Luke, Ally's boyfriend, and a detective on the local police department, is trying to solve the murder but Ally and Charlotte feel the need to help him. Another great book by Cindy Bell and a must read!
That was rather an abrupt ending and only one person got hurt during the confrontation to the killer. I’m actually glad it ended quickly, even though it was anticlimactic, because I don’t like too much suspense - it makes my stomach nervous. This time it wasn’t Arnold to save the day, rather it was another 4-legger. I do hope it’s in future stories, because how cool of a hero is an animal?!
Ally was a dummy in the end. Don’t EVER willingly follow a murder suspect into a Basement! Der. Or anyone for that matter. I wouldn’t want to go into anyone’s Basement if it was as dark as this person’s.
Next in this 21 book series is Cherries, Berries and a Body (A Chocolate Centered Cozy Mystery Book 16).
Love these characters. Ally, Charlotte, Luke and the three ladies who visit the store daily for their free candy. It's like one big family. Didn't see Jasmine as the killer. I hope they will be in future stories. What happens with Ally and Luke as well as Charlotte and Jeff s relationships. You make the reader want to walk in the store ,sit on a stool and enjoy some candy. Thank you.
Umm, I would love to visit Charlotte's Chocolate Heaven! Her granddaughter, Ally, runs it now, but Charlotte still comes in. The two love to get involved in solving mysteries. ally is dating the police detective, Luke. Excellent characterization and atmosphere. Blue River is an attractive small town
A casino in their small town? What would that mean for local businesses? Would they be shut down?
While walking her pig, Ally finds a dead body in the dumpster. It was the guy that was all for the casino. But who would want to kill him? Evidently, everyone in town had a motive, and Ally and Charlotte were determined to find out who did it.
Great book. This was a mystery that you Ally and Charlotte would never solve but ended too soon. Wish we could clone Cindy so she could write faster. A small complaint ... Need more Luke.!
I got into cozy mysteries because of this series and author. I really need to read her other series soon! I am sure they are as good as the others I've read, the "Vann bee deadly" boss.
This is a cute story. I liked the animals and especially Arnold. Of course, I am a cat lover and stories written about them are appealing. I will look for more of Cindy Bell's tales. Keep writing!
I've enjoyed this story of, Cinnamon and a Corpse, from the series, Chocolate Centered Mysteries. The author is a wonderful writer, I read her stories as fast as the writes them, she is a gem! Don't miss one of them.
I am almost finished with this series and loved all of them. The characters pull you into the story line and you get a great quick read that doesn't take all day to finish.
This cozy mystery kept me guessing to the end. A couple of twists and turns. At least Ally and Mee Maw were not as naive as they have been in previous books.
I think this series grows better and better. I love Ally and her grandmother. The story line was fun with twists and turns. Wiil the casino be built in the small town? Will all the shops be destroyed. I just wish that Luke played a better role in it and that he could stop being a bit patronizing to Ally. Like when he says something like you can have all the theories you want but I have to follow the evidence. Still it is a great read.
