Careful what you wish for has never been quite so true...
When a series of devastating events prompts Maddie Sayer to ask the universe for a do-over, she comes under the notice of a supernatural being who may not have her best interest at heart. Slung through the multiverses and into alternate realities, Maddie must figure out how to tap into her magical talents in order to stop the dimensional merry-go-round and find her way home before she's trapped in a reality drift forever.
MK Mancos began her storytelling about the same time she acquired language skills. When faced with nightmares as a child, the pediatrician instructed her mother to read her stories before bed. But being the precocious child she was, she wanted nothing but unadulterated tales by the Brothers Grimm. The battle raged between MK and her mother over suitable bedtime material, until MK was forced to begin telling herself tales before going to sleep. Thus began the lifelong love of books, stories, and lives not her own.
After living for years in the Midwest and Deep South, MK now resides in New Jersey with her wonderful husband, Dave, and her temperamental cat, Kittygirl.
Kathleen Scott lives for today and not tomorrow or yesterday. A mercurial individual, she has the high flying life of the jet set, and is hard to track down on most days.
“This book is for all those who might contemplate a do-over. Careful what you wish for…”
Returning to the stories of the Doran Witches, this time we meet Maddie, Kara’s little sister from Book 1. She’s living in a nightmare hell of a job, she just found out that her boyfriend is cheating on her, and it looks like she’s going to lose her apartment. She knows that she chose this life outside of her witch heritage, but that doesn’t make life any easier. One night she shouts out to the universe for a “do-over” and what happens next isn’t any better! With a demon that has it out for her it seems like she’s going to be forced to “try out” all of her maybe lives, and they don’t seem to be any better. Each time travels, Groundhog Day, do over seem to deteriorate, and she’s prepared to battle to better.
A highly engaging, page turning, fast paced read this story is going to keep you guessing all the way to the end. I really enjoyed all the characters and learning more about Kara & Maddie’s brother Malachi, who will be featured in the third story. Overall, this story is about being careful with what you wish for, you might not like a do-over.
“If I ever found that fairy godmother who f*cked this up for me, I was going to punch her right in the throat.”
I do love a good story revolving around witches and this one was actually a great witch tale! Kara is on a mission traveling to North Carolina from New York to fulfill a dying wish by her recently deceased Aunt Hattie. BTW dear Hattie is riding shotgun on this road trip, well her ghost that is. Turns out her favorite Aunt has an ulterior motive in mind and Kara finds much more than she bargained for in the tiny town of Cooper's Mill.
I dearly loved reading this romantic tale. Kara's journey is steeped in lots of her family history that I found fascinating. The most fun parts were the conversations with all the ghosts milling about in this southern town. I look forward to reading the next book in this series.
What a whirlwind! It did take me a minute to get into the cadence of this book. But what a crazy whirlwind of an adventure. I would have loved one more chapter to see how her plans move forward.
Maddie has never thought she had any talent as a witch. But outside forces have other ideas when a evil spirit takes over her reality. Will Maddie come back from this ordeal?
