Such a great story about a teen growing up and figuring out his distinct purpose. While it geared to teens and young adults, it is a great story for anyone who likes a great story! It will make every reader think about their life and their unique gifts to make a difference in this world.

Mr. Jon Coffey tells a story worth reading.

J.J. Morris is a person America needs to know and understand, yet he has a heart we can all connect with.

Excellent read for teenagers who hate reading and anyone else who enjoys a good book.

Not what I expected

I picked up this story thinking it would be a lot more focused on an already established superhero, but it hasn't. And I was pleasantly surprised. This is a fantastic coming-of-age story of a teen who discovers he has powers and trying to balance his newfound abilities and everyday high school life.

There were a few things that I thought could've been developed more. For example, the relationship between Hacksaw and JJ. There was a powerful reveal later in the book about how JJ's abilities affected Hacksaw and I think if there was more interaction n between them, the reveal could've been more powerful, but that's A small distraction in an otherwise well paced and entertaining story.

Such an incredible story. All encapsulating of the highs and lows, craziness and simplicity, awkwardness and self-identification that is High School for most kids. All is done masterfully while intriguing the reader with a storyline that is like no ordinary kid. This book could inspire a whole generation of young readers to dive headfirst into the unknown world of storytelling.

Amazing!

Coming from a 21 year old male here, this book was a very easy, enjoyable, relatable, and uplifting. I would HIGHLY recommend this to anyone needing to find their worth, or to rethink where they’re at/where they’re going in life.

This is, no exaggeration, my favourite book of all time. I used to read Super: A Memoir over and over again when I was a teen (a Canadian high school student who had no idea how football worked!)
Though the premise seems like a light read about a teen who gains super powers, I found this story more meaningful than the plethora of gritty and introspective books that leave the reader feeling just a bit deflated.
I read this book after failing tests, fighting and making up with friends, and trying out for basketball teams. The way the author approaches faith, death, anxiety, and family is exactly what I needed at that point in my life. It’s a must read for any teen or young adult.

I am going to hold off on a rating for this book seeing as how the author is my brother in law AND I was a beta reader for the book.

A fantastic read that moves at an incredibly swift pace. The chapters are purposefully short which not only makes it more fun to read, but it makes you feel like you are plowing through at a breakneck speed. A highly recommended read for anyone going through high school as it does a very good job of making the reader feel the social pressures and anxieties that come in a high school.

this book was phenomenal! as a high schooler myself it was such an enjoyable read, and i normally don’t like reading much. i loved that i could connect to some things happening in the book, like the dating issues and the popularity of varsity football. JJ and Coach Haines character development was great and the storyline flowed very well. This book needs to be read by teens everywhere!

I really enjoyed this book. It is a positive message with some great lessons. I felt like I was placed right back in my teenage years as I was reminded of the exciting possibilities that come along with growing up as well as the challenges. I also appreciated the Midwest references.

Great book for young (or any age, really) readers. It focuses on a teenage boy who is trying to figure out who he is and where he fits in in the world when his whole world changes.
I was on the edge of my seat through the entire book. I cant wait to read more from Jon Coffey!!

A great coming-of-age story with a clever twist. JJ inspires us all to consider our gifts and how not to waste them. Fun read for both teens and adults.

Jon Coffey is the brother of my daughter-in-law, so I'm hardly a disinterested reviewer. Having said that I greatly enjoyed reading his book. It's a coming-of-age novel/memoir, written by the protagonist, J. J. Morris with a twist, our protagonist gradually learns that he has super abilities.

The things I liked about this book:

1. The author doesn't bother to explain how J.J. gets his super abilities. I don't think there is any need to, and neither does the author. They just begin to show up one day at football practice, the story is more interested in how J.J. discovers he has super abilities and then comes to terms with the fact.

2. There is a funny incident in the book when J.J. "throws" a giant tree trunk, as he discovers that he really does have super abilities, but only finds out later that he has thrown to disastrous effect.

3. Coach Haines. The coach is based on a real person that influenced the author during his high school years and who later got cancer and passed away after the author graduated. In the book Coach Haines is a sympathetic character, who, while he never does know that J. J. has super abilities, still takes the time to encourage him.

I read this book in two days and found it interesting and entertaining. A very enjoyable book.

This book really exceeded my expectations! As a female in her 20s, I was worried I wasn’t going to connect and be draw in by a book about a high school football player with super powers, but boy was I wrong. I would have read it in one sitting if my day would have allowed, but each break made me more excited to get back into the story. The character development was done really well. The plot had nice twists here and there so it wasn’t super predictable. Your heart strings get pulled on a few times and you’re routing for the characters the whole way through! Such a great book that was fun and easy to read!

“I examined my hands and arms in the dim moonlight. I looked the same as I had. But I was not. This was something new. Something fortunate.
Something life-changing.”

A excellently crafted story, the internal dialogue of JJ is great! You really get a feel for what it would be like to wake up as a teen in high school and one day have powers.
How do you use them for better or for worse?
Do you tell others or keep it a secret?
What will people think?
My mom, my girlfriend, the guys on the football team!

Definitely recommend and will re-read in the future.
