The Candlestick Maker

Is he a fitness instructor? Or a fatness instructor?

Jack Kennedy is a fitness instructor with a difference. He’s got an unhealthy obsession with other people’s weight, and not in a good way. He also makes candlesticks.

Inept Food inspector, Emily Underwood, is still having her ups and downs – both at work and at home. Emily’s relationship with her mostly harmless boyfriend, Andy, is on rocky ground. Then her flat mate, Catherine, loses her job over an unexpected live stream of the new boardroom table being christened. Things start to go rapidly downhill for the intrepid trio, but when Catherine meets a nice young man at her local gym, they go from bad to worse.

Can Emily uncover Jack Kennedy’s dark past before it’s too late for Catherine? Will Andy finally man up and fight for what he loves? And why is Jack making an enormous candlestick in his workshop at Hill Top Farm?

The final book in the Rub-a-Dub-Dub Trilogy, this hilarious dark British comedy will make you want to count your calories very carefully indeed.

So, once again the cast of characters from Norfolk find themselves involved with a dodgy character at the infamous farm.
This series is a very well written set of farce-like stories featuring a set of great characters who manage to get embroiled with some very dodgy characters, I like that each of the stories revolve around a different type of wrongdoing, each more bizarre than the last, but just managing to stay within a type of believability (alright it is quite a stretch, but then this is farce!)
For me this story is probably the best yet, there is a lot going on, and I found it the funniest yet as well. The characters are definitely developing through the series as well.
As is so often the case, this can be read as a stand-alone story, but it is far more rewarding to read it in sequence, after the first two books.
I received an advance copy of the book, but have voluntarily written this honest review.

That farm again! Hill Top Farm is a magnet for strange goings-on. This time the final 'man in the tub', the Candlestick Maker. This series is no nursery rhyme! Full-on dark comedy, involving previous characters Emily and Catherine. Jack is the new owner of the farm. He is a gym instructor who makes candlesticks as a hobby. Down on her luck, after something unfortunate happens at Catherine's workplace, she falls for Jack's charms. But Jack has a secret involving another woman...
Hose-pipes, candlesticks, missing vicars, a male boss who wants to borrow your dress and a date with a policeman. A contemporary Carry-On with a dark twist.

Not quite

The flow and intensity of the first book, "The Butcher", but I would say just as good. I so enjoy the English idioms and the phrasing, as well as the plot lines and the structure of the story. A great read, and I can't wait to see where the author goes from here.

Quirky

Good sequel to the other two books in series, but I still liked the 1st one best. Dry British humor is always fun when well written

I received an ARC of this book and this is a voluntary and honest review.

There are too main questions you need to ask yourself.

One, have you been (lucky) enough to have read the first two (& a half) books in the Rub-A-Dub-Dub Trilogy/Series, and want to continue to enjoy the rollicking activities of the trio Emily, Catherine and Andy? [NB. All of the books are stand-alone stories, but they're all such great books that you'll want to have the total series in the end anyway.] The banter between the main characters is hilarious and priceless.

Two, do you enjoy a great British humour read that will leave you eye-rolling, chortling and laugh-out-loud? [Okay, having a little grasp of British colloquial language or environment will be an advantage, but it is not a necessity and you'll have no trouble getting the gist of what's going on.]

Fully recommend this book (and series).
